I recently received a flood of Rep points, though most were not green, they were grey. Despite the fact that my grey points outnumbered by green rep points 7:1, I was still positive on the count. That said, do the grey rep comments really mean that the viewer disapproves of the post?

Grey reputation is neutral reputation. It doesn't really count I guess. Jordan said that from now on it would be either positive or negative.

Woops, there's just a requirement for the user giving rep to have enough reputation to give positive rep points. Its a abuse prevention thing I guess.

There was a requirement, but it is no longer in place (since points no longer "matter").

That's good to know. I though they were neutral, which seemed totally pointless to me. And is there a way to see all of the rep points you have received? It's not that important, but I'm just looking through trying to find out how well I was doing in the past.

My rep went away. I can't see it in My GTPlanet at the moment. What's the deal? It worked for me all day today.

Thanks. I'm going to disappear, seeing as I am not approved of by most people...

Green = Positive
Red = Negative
Grey = User didn't have enough points to give you any points. Could be negative or positive.

Although I already knew what "grey" is, this is still the best explanation.

I probably suck at searching, but what happens, when a user, who has given you +rep, but hasn't got enough rep to give rep, gets enough points to actually give +rep ?..

Will the old "neutral" reps go positive or stay neutral ?...

No, it won't be retroactive as far as I know. If I gave rep to somebody a year ago when my rep power was in the 20s, it will not automatically add points to those people now that my rep power is in the 30s.

Thanks !..

Take a look at my post here. Duke is correct.

Is this rep power based on the amount of rep someone has? Say if I had 20 I'd have a rep power in the 20s, also, if someone gives me reputation, is it just one rep point?

We use a rep system on another forum, but it's more 'open' if that makes sense.

The amount of rep a person gives is dependent upon how much rep they have, and how long they've been a member of the forum, but it takes a lot of both to add much to a person's rep power. Most people's rep power is in the single digits. A long term, quality member who's made a lot of good posts and received a lot of positive rep will have a rep in the double digits. Not to blow my own horn or anything.

Not to blow my own horn or anything.
As if ;-)

I'm still amazed that my consistent crap postings earned me 119 points.. I'm happily blowing my own horn right there..

Though it hardly matters anymore... :-|

So, this thread is dead, or is it to be melded or somehow linked to the 'Reputation is Dead!' thread?

I think it's just going to end here - with the Rep system - unfortunately.. :-|

All this happened before I even noticed.

When the rep system was first introduced I liked the way it was, you could see your points and the posts which had been rep'ed...

...of course got abused and then it became you don't see your points which I accepted but this made the system slightly vanish from peoples interest...

...if they couldn't see how well they were doing they didn't bother and people forgot to rep posts after it was 'the new thing'.

I really looked forward to one day having the quality posts badge and I didnt mind waiting and working towards it, I saw how I did just before the whole system stopped and I was on the way to getting it... pity!

Now its all gone! I guess the system wasn't really going to work, GTP just has to have the right etiquette and common sense without some little reward which for the most part it does.

I guess what Im saying is that GTP is so polite, civil and thoughtful of the posting that a system to find the 'better from the best' was not necessary.

I believe that has been the most positive post on this whole matter.👍

I would have added +rep to that...

99% of the active posters were perfectly able to use the rep system without causing any problems or feeling the need to be asinine about it.

It was a group of well under 10 specific users who managed to get the reputation system shut down for the other 2 or 3 thousand of us who enjoyed it.

It is a pity that people like that need to be jerks.

As Duke mentioned it's normally a small minority of people that ruin something for everyone. Unfortunately the rep system did have loopholes that were open to abuse.

Would it be possible for moderators to pre-approve all reputation points before they are submitted to a user? That way the good mods here can see if any shannigans are going on. I know this is more time consuming for moderators but maybe we could have "reputation moderators" who have a responsibility to check that reputation is given for a genuine reason.

I really liked the rep system here and I thought we would never have problems.

Guys, come on. Don't you think it's time to let this dead horse rest in peace?
