Here's some shots I took last night on 'Holy Island' (Lindisfarne), in Northumberland, England. We went over in the evening after the tide had gone back out, and found the place almost deserted, except for some serious photographers. We lowered the tone somewhat with our equipment, but got some beautiful views. I had a monocular with me too, so we were able to see Lindisfarne Castle and the surrounding bay area in even more detail. The last picture is of nearby St. Abb's Harbour, where we had visited the previous night. At the bottom, I've added a couple of screenshots of Google Maps, to show you where the pics were taken.

Nice photos so far :D

Lindisfarne is beautiful, I went their several years ago (just after I'd studied Vikings in Primary school) and was amazed by it. I'd love to go back now, especially due to my interest in photography now. Could probably get some pretty decent shots.

Looking forward to seeing more. 👍

Nice shot's I like really like the second one, it makes a nice desktop ;)👍

👍 Thanks for the comments! It is a great place, and we got lucky with some dramatic skies! My sister got some great shots on the causeway too, and my effort was a last-gasp attempt (we literally stopped the car in the middle of the causeway) to get a decent shot, after previous attempts failed. Funnily enough, I was playing about with the settings trying to get a decent contrast between the light and dark clouds, but in the end, I couldn't match the "Auto" setting that was giving my sister much better results on an identical camera. So much for my "photography skills" :sly:

The photo of the causeway is great. 👍 Beautiful sky, lighting, and reflection.

If I'm looking at that second one correctly, you're probably remembering more color in the light areas. Bringing up the darkness for detail washes out the light. I've spent many hours on pics like that trying to make it look like what I saw.

About all you can do is use two copies of the image and some masking to incorporate the right parts from each. Fairly difficult to do smoothly.

Amazing how the brain does stuff that the camera, film, screen, sensor, paper, etc. can't even try to do.

A very nice picture, and my favorite of those posted.

Hey Mars not familiar with that part of the Country (sorry!).

I love the "Causeway to Holy Island" you have caught that very moody sky perfectly (was a storm or rain about to start?). In addition the reflection on the standing water gives it a sense scale in the foreground and set the whole picture off.
What type of camera were you using Digital or Film? I really would like to see a bigger version of the causeway shot, as the size you posted perhaps doesn't do it full justice. What I generally do in my gallery is to post a smaller version and then also upload to an image host and provide links to full size versions. You might perhaps consider doing this?

Keep snapping my friend if you have other stuff as good we would all like to see it.

Beautiful scenery. Some nice stuff there TM considering your cameras limitations. 👍

Thanks for the comments and suggestions 👍 I'll definitely add links to the full size pictures, thanks for the idea semilife. I find that the full resolution shots are slightly noisy, and so I reduce them to 800 px (these versions are 450 px wide, IIRC). I've also cropped them quite a bit too. As for more advanced processing like using masks etc., I'd like to give that a bash, but I haven't a clue how to do that yet!

I'm using a Fuji Finepix S5600 Digital camera, by the way.

I have a clue, because I've seen it done. No hope of duplicating the feat anytime soon. :dopey:

Very very nice shots you've put up here, Touring Mars. I really enjoy looking at them 👍 Keep it up!
