The Weekly Drag Series Tournament - Green light (finally)!

Welcome to our first real competition. A real drag racing event usually consists of many people racing against each other trying to stick it out for the win. This tournament is going to require strategy and will test your ability to tune a multitude of cars. Darkwind and I are doing lots of planning to ensure each stage of competition is challenging.

Although it may seem early in the life of the Weekly Drag Series, this tournament should create some more interest. Plus, people have requested that we do an actual event like this. This will not be in place of the normal WDS event - so you may choose to do the WDS Week 6 for example and skip out on this, or vice versa.

This is how it will work. Say there are 32 entrants. Through the single elimination system, 16 will advance to the 2nd round.....8 to the 3rd round, and so on. Once you lose once, you're out. You will have one week per round to get your best time. You must follow all rules posted in the corresponding thread of that round.

You MUST qualify for this tournament so that you can be paired up with someone close in your skill level. To do this, please visit the Week 4 thread and submit a time using the Buick Special '62 - all the necesarry details are contained in that thread. Once you get your absolute best time, pm it to me with the heading (WDS Tournament Qualification) or post it in that thread. Once a time is received, I will add it in to the results in the first post with a star next to it - denoting that it is 'unofficial' so if you beat BCDSM, the win for Week 4 won't be given to you. However, you will qualify very well.

Right now I am only evaluating how much interest there is for this and how many spots are to be filled. I will post the actual challenge inside this thread around August 6th.

All the Round 4 entrants are guaranteed a spot - so if they fail to race and you are paired next to them, you automatically advance to the next round.

Verification will not be asked of you except in the form of your setup. If you win a round but fail to post a full setup at the conclusion of that round, you are disqualified; and if the 2nd place person provides a setup then they get the win. Saving your replay is encouraged but is not mandatory for you to upload it. Absolutely no cheating.

If you would like to participate in this, you know what to do. Please let me know before August 6th if you want to race, to reserve your spot.

I have a dire feeling that I won't last too long, especially with the likes of BCD and Kenny hovering about. Nicely organized, Kenny.

D'you think we will get to 32 entrants? Be nice if we made 64, eh?
 
Lets see... 32 people would result in a 5 round tournament. so 64 would result in 6 rounds. I hope that for once I do better than my last two weeks.

So far there are six races I'm testing that I feel are the most challenging. There are 3 that don't require a lot of testing or have already been tested, but I can't wait to test the other three.

Jetboys, 64 would be AWESOME! One way to get more people is to tell your friends and to bump the thread I created 'Register now for the WDS Tournament' in the GT4 area if it sinks too far down :)
 
Count me in. Unfortunately I missed last weeks round due to work, so I'll go and qualify when I get a chance.

A wide variety of drivetrains and speeds. If it is decided to run a car that requires you to save up millions or do a long race, we will tell you way in advance. However as I see it we don't plan on doing that.

Like Kenny said, theres a variety of. As for the issue of cost, I don't see any problems since the most expensive single car that might be needed is just over 500,000 credits. If we ahd 6 races, and you bought the most expensive things, then you would probably spend about 813,200 credits. Ideally, You shouldn't HAVE to spend over 400,000 credits.
 
if money is an issue the Amalfi tarmac rally is really easy to win and the RSC rally car that you win can be sold for 200K.
 
Theres also the German Touring championship(much longer german name on the race map) which you win 15k per race win, 75K for championship win, and the CLK race car which sells for 700k

Isn't it great how in the GT series there is always a willing buyer for the cars we repeatedly sell. In real life, if I try to sell a car like a Daihatsu pickup truck, I'll have to include a house with it.
 
alright i am in . i dont have all the cars. i race which ones i have and and if i have to buy some i do if get chanche.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's kind of sad when you try to sell your old junker and the car dealer wants you to pay them to take it. :lol:

It's sorta like how Mustangs are going to be since they're a dime a dozen. I don't see what everyone likes about them other than they're cheap sports cars. The new models... ok anything newer than a Shelby GT500, are more like the ugly stepchildren ESPECIALLY the old hatchback Mustangs :nervous: what was ford thinking...

I've edited my siggy to promote more *points* ... not sure how much it'll help. I don't really post much outside of the WRS and WDS. Maybe the occasional GT4 tuning thread.

Ideally I think we should shoot for a total of 16 people - so 6 more slots are available. This way we will have a nice easy number to work with and 4 rounds with no extra spots or wildcards.

I'll see if I can talk my brother into the tournament, he said he wasn't going to enter WDS but if you need that 16th person (or an alternate stand-by type thing) I'm sure he'll be down for that.

And thanks, it sucks that I had to be so hard on myself and post the 2nd fastest time to end up paired with the fastest racer, but eh, I'll survive.

I'm on vacation this week so week six will have more time put into it. I would've liked to start the tournament this week but I guess it can't be helped.

Feel free to talk your brother into joining. It'd be nice to have some more people take part.

The races are all done and tested. I almost forgot to backup the file because I had to restore my computer last night due to pesky adware and a virus that my lovely antivirus couldn't do anything about.

Ok, my brother said he's not interested in WDS but will, if necessary, be the 16th person to fill out the bracket, so you can count on him for that at least.

Just let me know if/when you need him and he'll post his Qual time (around 10.8 I think - unless he puts more work into it when I'm not around ;) )
