right i was not looking foward to this championship or driving nascar but was very suprised with how much fun they are to drive. won the first 4 races with 10+ secs easily. even when trying to drift the beast. got to daytona and on the first corner on the second lap was in second and what do you know, got taken out and finished last 8 secs behind. damm ai:grumpy:
 
I did a lot of digging to find out how to win this. Staying in the pack results in you having spectacular crashes as the AI keep on pushing until they spin you out.

So:

1) do an oil change for a few extra HP over the others.
2) add the body rigidity mod
3) racing soft (thanks for the reminder timok)
4) leave transmission and downforce settings as standard
5) turn off ABS.
6) drive in the view with the big rear mirror - you will need it.
7) turn on racing line and follow as close as possible once ahead of the pack.

You'll be able to get ahead of the pack pretty easy. Now they will be catching you up in two 'trains' as the are draffting together.

Look in your mirror and line yourself up SQUARE with the fastest train and get a bump, this should see you get a boost which puts you ahead until a few corners later. Keep doing this until you win.

Might take a few tries. Good luck.

Changing the tires to race soft ,also give you more grip to keep the speed and grip in the corners.
(They are hard)

Damn right, I forgot to add this as it's the first thing I do when I get a new car. :)
 
I won Daytona with messed up NASCAR in 3rd attempt, if you can't get ahead of the pack (if you can't get enough advantage) it's best to be 12th in first 8 laps, and than you just need to overtake them in last 2 laps and it's not really hard...
 
i am trying the hard nascar pit challenge but cant seem to do it, seems the AI leadcar has a supercharger as it seems to stay ahead of the pack behind it that is slipstreaming
 
Ya Daytona was stupid. They just constantly ram you and eventually they caught a corner of my car and spun me out.

Didn't matter though because I had won the first 4 races so I still got gold in the overall championship and completed the event.
 
So, I love the NASCAR races, and most races for that matter but I do get sick of the opposition and it's constant kamikaze AI. I do realize this is endemic throughout the game but the NASCAR races seem to excel in it - and yet it's probably where it's most apt! AS much as it pisses me off, I still don't mind being shunted into a spin by an AI competitor because as much as I know about NASCAR (from watching Days of Thunder. Once, when I was 12) apparently "rubbing's racing"

All I want to know is, how the **** can I get the AI drivers to spin out like that? The bastards seem to be running on rails as I've slammed into more than my fair share of the cheating *****, right above the rear wheel and they've not moved in the slightest! I'd give up completely but ther has been one or two times where I've caused an AI car to spin out 180 degrees+ and quite frankly I need to know how to do that ALL the time! I don't even care about winning, as long as I can give the cheating robot bastards a taste of their own medicine!.

This Championship was really annoying me. I was spun out 5 times out of 7 races... :|

Had to restart twice and still have yet to get it. I'll try again soon.
 
A tip for Daytona (where they ram the most):

Don't jump to the front at the beginning, put yourself at the very back of the pack and draft the last car (it's actually very fun to master it) until the second straight of lap 9. No one will back end you like that.

After that, step on the gas and use the draft to overtake everyone in the next lap and a half. You will have enough draft/time to do it, since everyone else drives slow due to the ASM (of course you need to deactivate it by reducing the ABS to 0), and they won't have enough time to ram you before the finish line :D
 
It worked out well with this strategy for me:

Soft tires.
Minimum downforce.
250 top speed tranmission setting.

Now draft your way to the lead car.
Don't pass him. Nudge his rear bumper and stay behind him for the whole race.
This kept me in the lead 2 cars for every lap.
On the final turn before the finish, pass him with draft momentum and win 1st.

It seems the combined horsepower working on the frontal area of one car gets you around the track better than just your own power punching a hole through the air.
