This car is a short-track monster. It's nearly identical in specs to the Elise 111R RM.

1998cc
316hp/7400rpm
233ft-lb
MR drivetrain
845kg

Seems like I remember getting this thing over 160mph also, and I don't remember reaching 160mph in my Elise RM, but I could be wrong. This is a gorgeous car as well. I haven't heard anything mentioned about it before and just discovered it as a hidden gem in my garage last night. My guess is that this car is going to be a sleeper for most people. Give it a shot! You won't be disappointed. It has some monster grip, and really tight turning radius as well.

You get this car for winning the A-Spec World Compact Challenge. It costs a lot of money to fully tune it, I'm guessing at least 200,000 cr., but if you love your Elise RM I think this car is totally worth it. One of my favorite cars now!

I'll take your word for it that it's a handler... but no interest, you have to look at it to drive it. No thanks!

I got this thing as a prize car for some milestone I can't recall. Whatever floats your boat though. Enjoy!

I've never driven that car, but I did experience the 111/R RM last night around Nurburgring V. My buddy was doing sub 8 minute laps with 319hp! The best combo I've done so far in GT5. 👍

I love the Elise and I have both cars. Trust me when I say that they're very similar machines, and if I'm right about the higher top speed with the Berlinette, it might even be able to pull faster lap times on a track like Nurburgring. Plus, I think it weighs 50kg more, which could be a benefit since I've found that the Elise likes to leave the ground pretty easily because it's so light.

I have both the cars in question plus a modded Suzuki GSX-R/4. The GSX will pull down some serious times around Suzuka, much faster than you would think for a car with 255 hp or so. I need to compare it with the Elise and RS for a pocket rocket show down.

Maybe do that in a minute.

I drove that car in real live (Here) and it isn't that impressive. Don't get me wrong, it's a fast and fun car but I also drove a standard Elise and the Elise is faster, more manoeuvrable etc... .

Yeah, but despite all of PD's efforts and what Kaz may say, things don't play out exactly the same in the game as they do in real life.

I don't want people to get the wrong impression, because this car is very closely matched to the Elise 111 RM. I'd consider it an extremely competitive car for online events with lower horsepower limits.

I actually prefer the Hommell over the Elise. To me, the Elise is very, VERY easy to spin. The Hommell seems more controllable in my opinion.

I like to run my TommyKaira ZZ-S against Elise RM's. 305 HP, 624kg. Puts up a very good fight. I have that Hommel but haven't bothered to upgrade it yet. Mostly because the Tommy is so good and super light. I loved it in GT4 though so I'll give it a try.

Really? Without time and money invested it is atrocious and has no grip. No contender compared to the 111R RM

Yes, but we ARE talking about the Berlinette that has the time and money invested. Like I said, it's near 200,000 cr. to upgrade it, but so is the Elise with the race mod and other upgrades. They're very comparable cars, and I think the Hommell has a faster top speed. I'll check later to find out for sure.

If only it were a decent standard model. Seriously, possibly the worst model I've seen in GT5. Good car other wise though.

Just finished my little pocket rocket showdown and didn't think of the ZZ-S. I'll try that in a second. Butt...

Hommell Berlinette R/S Coupe '99, just checked and that is the model. 311 hp, 845 Kg. I did my standard generic MR tune on all 3 cars. I like cars that hang the tail out. My current grinder is the McLaren F1 Stealth, which is more of a handful than the regular F1 that people complain so much about. Suzuka 2:09.526.

Elise 111R RM. 288 hp, 720 Kg. The GT Auto Race Mod turns this car into, if not a giant killer, one of the fastest small cars in GT5. It barely hangs it's tail out and does it the least in this group. Suzuka 2:01.299.

Suzuki GSX-R/4 283 hp, 588 Kg. Just going by numbers you would think the GSX would plant the Elise but the Elise has downforce while the GSX slides around the track. Suzuka 2:01.029.

So the thing to think about the Hommell in this comparison is tough competition. I like driving the Hommell. I think it looks cool too. Just out classed here.

OK...Tommykaira ZZ-S '00, 312 hp, 624 Kg. First time I really drove this car. Added everything to it. In a word, understeer. I had to double check...it says MR, but you wouldn't know it by driving it. After adding front camber, reducing rear camber, adding a little rear toe out, reducing the front spring rate and looser front shocks I got a semblance of balance, but the tendency is still strongly towards understeer. So if anyone has a tune that works with this car I'll try it. Lots of power though. Suzuka 2:07.877.

Adjust the LSD. Try 10/20/10 and see if that opens it up a bit.

I also believe that the driving is the predominant factor when it comes to lap times, therefore I'm always skeptical to rate cars based on lap times people give. A better car will give a slower lap time if the driving isn't up to snuff. I'm not saying that's the issue here, I'm just saying that everyone needs to do these comparisons for themselves on the track. But thanks for giving us your time and input, which is certainly something to think about.

You don't... I use the roof/hood cam, where you can't even tell what car you are driving most of the time. Many have success with the bumper cam. Give them a try and enjoy the ride!

One of the best cars in the game imo. Modest engine upgrades, stock suspension, comfort soft tyres.

I won this car a little while ago (in a silver type color, it looked so good) and I actually still prefer it over the Elise. It just seems to handle much better and when tuned it can go toe-to-toe with a 111R.

The Berlinette was one of my GT4 loves. I used to run 200 A-Spec points races on El Capitan with it. Not that easy to drive, but tons of fun.

I'll have to give that car a shot. I love my little race modified Elise, so maybe this will be fun.

I used it a lot earlier on, very nicely balanced car in the game once upgraded a bit. Never maxed it out upgrade wise but got close enough to know that it has the potential to be a great car.

As for game vs. reality. I tend to think most of the rare/concept cars driver better than they do/would in real life. Take the ZZ-II for example... no way in hell that car drives as well as it does... no doubt it would drive well, like a extremely light and powerful R34 with better weight balance and lower centre of gravity, but if it could pull in some of the times is does Tommy Kaira would be working on a successor using R35 running gear and it would undoubtedly be the best supercar ever made.

Good points. I did this for my own enjoyment. Spent the same 3-4 laps at Suzuka for each car, except for tuning the ZZ-S. The more time spent, the better the lap times will be. Plus I know I'm not the best driver on GT5. So not the last word and any of these cars, just a quick comparo.
