One of the most persistent criticisms of GT5 has been that it has been created in a vacuum and has ignored the features and ideas that have become standard in other racing games. With that in mind, what features from other games would you like to see in the GT series?

To get the ball rolling, here's an example: I picked up Codemaster's Dirt II for PC (very cheap in Steam sale). Whilst the handling is very arcadey and not a patch on GT, I was impressed with the slick interface and the general presentation. All the menus and options are part of the game's 3D world, which helps with the immersion. If you've not seen the menus and interface, check out this YouTube video.

The other feature in Dirt 2 I liked was the fact that you could easily fast-forward and rewind replays. Surely this is something that would be easy to implement in GT5? But I'm not sure whether the ability to do this in races, where you can rewind after a mistake and try-again would be good or not? But there are times when it sure would have been useful!

What else?

I don´t think, the menu of Dirt 2 is a good example for game menus. It is even more or the same confusing as in GT5 and in my opinion, it is one of the most trashiest ever.

I like clean and structured menus with some background videos or pictures and when you finished settings, a conducting video sequence would be great.

But what GT5 can defenitely learn from Dirt or Colin McRae-series in general is the rally atmosphere. No clean circuits with hard barriers but natural rally-like landscapes with wide track sides.

Also dirt effects and damage on cars are cool as well.

Anoter sequence I loved was the intro squence of Nascar Racing Season-series, when starting a race. There was a short track overview and the typical "gentlemen, start your engines" stuff, screaming crowds and the outlap out of the box.

Those sequences should be a good inspiration of how to beginn a race or even finish it. Would increase the atmosphere dramatically.

Also skidmarks beside the track (over grass or gravel) would be a good feature, which can be seen in every simple racing game.

The collision physics of PC-sims like rFactor, iRacing or Nascar Racing Season are a prime example of how cars react when hitting each other or when cars get into the wall.

I like the weather effects in GT5 a lot (mostly the daytime changes), but some more effects on track while rain need to be added. So you see o reflections, puddles etc. (But I think, in GT5 it is a compromise of the reached limit of the PS3 hardware). A leading implementation in games like Dirt, F1 2010 or SuperCar Challenge

I think I can make a pretty long list:

PI system from Forza (or actually PP system from prologue.....)

Fuel load adjustment in all PC sims.

option to change none of only one end of the tire in pitstop from rfactor.

full driving control in pitbox from pc sims.

inner, centre, and outer tire temp from Forza and all PC sims.

MUCH more realistic tire data (heat cycle, wear rate, wet track grip etc) from F12010.

option for a non straight cut box with final ratio adjustment.

heavy weight reduction should remove passenger seat, from Forza.

some sort of cleanliness/ safety rating from Iracing.

better controller support from any racing sim worth it salt.....

reverse gear without pressing triangle, from again any racing sim worth it salt.

ability to add a rollcage without RM from Forza.

Livery editor from Forza.

Option to stay on same set of tires even if you return to garage from NKpro.

Repairing damage costs extra time in pit, from LFS, Iracing, Rfactor etc.

Ability to set tire allocation limit in a session from F12010.

Ability to set time of day and weather separately, from Rfactor.

better weather effects, visual information on how wet the track is from F12010.

Rubber build up from LFS and F12010.

quick chat pre-sets from LFS and rfactor

ability to access pit menu anytime, from all PC sims.

adjustment on wind speed and track temp.

performance benchmark from Forza.

more realistic gearbox and clutch simulation from LFS.

Engine damage and failure from LFS.

ability to pick up dirt and have flatspot like in LFS and NKpro.

better steering input adjustment from all PC sims and some codie titles.

visual Damage from GRID, and optional physical damage level from RBR, the later being more important.

ability to create time limited race online as in any other sim.

ability to have multi heat races like in Forza.

replay control as in any other sim.

Better online restriction from Forza.

difficulty relative reward system from Forza. (or drop the leveling system all together)

FOV adjustment in degree and view point adjustment from LFS.

Race start by starting lights instead of the arcade 3,2,1 GO, and random start light timing.

online admin control for issuing penalties.

Just talking on another thread about our first PSX games, which for me was Ridge Racer and I remembered the Galaga game you play during loading. There you go PD, give us something to do during loading.

Hell even Fifa lets you kick about while you wait.

💡 If u want features from another game GO AND PLAY ANOTHER GAME!!! GT is the way it is and that's all! Don't came up talking about add this and that.. ********CK THAT!!! GO and play your crappy game and forget about GT B*tches!!! :dunce:

That is your point of view. I had every GT-title and loved it, but I can swear.....when nothing changes in GT6, GT5 was my last GT-title...because the game structure itself is still the very same since GT1....and after 15 years it is more a minus than a plus. And I would bet 1000$ that I am not alone with my opinion.

I can do this one quick.

1. be fun like GT4.

bill

and to fill it in for the smartasses grinding for level points is not fun.

If you think GT5 shouldn't be improved upon, you're probably in a miniscule minority. Every patch they make to improve the beta version they sold us is a good one. But proritizing the most important improvements should nevertheless be done.

If I want features from another game I'll post about it here. GT is the way it is and that's not as good as it could be. Since updates are being done regularly, I will come up with things to add and talk about it. Embrace that. I will go and play my adequate GT and think about how much better it could be.

👍

It's not so much the menu system as the overall presentation I was impressed with. GT is a lot more complex, so needs a more streamlined system, but it could still learn a thing or to from the general slickness/polish of Dirt.

Why is it?

PD want to sell games. Gamers want to buy them. It's in PD's interest to keep ahead of the curve before another game leaves them behind.

Look at Pro Evo and Fifa. For years Pro Evo was a superior game, and Fifa a superior license and interface. When the sales of Fifa started dropping EA got wise and fixed the game underneath, and now it's as respected (maybe more) as Pro Evo.

GT's only saving grace is the competition is on an entirely different platform. If EA got wise and did a realistic Need For Speed game then even the die hard fans would be tempted.

they are going to make shift2 a serious sim, at least that's what they claim, and actually I will not take that as a total joke.

On that side is true! same thing happened to NBA Live and 2k but with racing games I don't think that's gonna happen! Because GT is unique no matter how many games they try to create GT has to many years of experience and development is gonna take ages to others reach the level of GT and if that happens GT is gonna be 3step ahead as they always do... don't u think??
You think PD is gonna allow some other to beat them

if you take damage from grid, weather from F12010, online portion of Forza and career experience from shift/F1 etc, and an improved physics engine from forza you are already seeing a GT5 beater.

They already are in some area's.

The problem with GT is it's never competed with other games. Up to GT4 it never had to as there was just nothing like it. Between 4 and 5 though Forza has had it's eye on the prize and if what was said about Shift2 is right, so does EA. But PD have no interest in being competitive. They have a vision of digital car love and a quirky way of going about expressing it. You would say in art terms they haven't sold out and fair play to them. But I guarantee you there are meetings going on in Sony about the 'problems' with GT5.

Damage and wheel-to-wheel AI from F1 2010, the customisational options available in in FM3 and NFS if anything, GT should go even further with being able to do things like make modifications to a car so it falls into a certain race category so you can have events saying "cars must abide by DTM regulations" or "cars must abide by Super GT GT500 regulations" ...make these obviously FEASIBLE changes, for example only 4 door cars can get DTM regs and only GT cars can have GT500... how ever there should be a reasonable amount of flexibility in this so people can emulate the legendary Mustang GTP that was quicker than 962's in IMSA in the 80's.

I'd quite like one of the features that MarioKart managed.. Friend time trial leaderboards. Other than that, replays after 2 player split screen would be nice for me.

Ferrari and supercar challenge weight transfer physics are MUCH better than gt5s.

You can feel the weight change distribution when you go on/off the brakes.

The adjustable AI from Dirt 2: I want to race in the Sunday Cup or FF Challenge against decent AI.

Well for starters I would go with.

Leaderboard system like Forza 2 has where even the career races have there own leader boards.

PP system similar to GT5P as it seemed better than the one used by Forza.

Part upgardes and swapping as was used in NFS Porsche Unleased.

Online race setups similar to what was in the private lobbies of Forza 3 in addition to what is already in GT5 as GT5 has some cool options not found in Forza.

All the P2P tracks from NFS Porsche Unleased not to mention the cars :)

A-Spec points from GT4

The tracks that were in GT4 but not in Gt5

And last but maybe most important of all is the ability to save tunes to a file and recall as found in some other games such as Forza.

Do you have any idea of the enormous extent of race car reglementations? It´s not like reading a single-sided A4-sheet, but reading hundrets of sheets like a huge book.

Would never be possible to tune a street car into a real world race car after real-world reglements with superficial tuning part-options.

The one choice would be to add complete racing modifications along the lines of real world race cars.

I add another point nearly like HBR-Roadhog´s:

- AI has the same tuning opportunities like the player and at events, the opponent cars are based on the vehicles of the player

I'd like to see some of the the cars, tracks and venues from TOCA 3 and GRID. The tracks in the UK, Austrailia and various Formula 1 tracks all over the world are fun and awesome to race on. I like the customization of paint and stripes and even the sponsorship feature in GRID. Don't get me wrong, I think GT5 is still the best BUT it is lacking in the the choice of awesome tracks available on the planet. I would love to take a ZR1 RM Vette, Toyota GT-1 or my #24 Impala around the Lady in Black in Darlington, Road Atlanta, Shanghai International, Istanbul or Spa. The list could go on...meanwhile, have fun with GT5!

1. A menu system from any racing game ever made except gt5 (Navigating GT5s menu system is like having teeth pulled with no anesthesia) It reminds me of dial up internet ...Hit a button ,go away and come back 2 mins later .

2.HBR-Roadhog said it all with his first point

Leaderboard system in Forza 2 has no equal and is a reason i still play this game hame heaps
Any racing game made should model there leaderboard sytem on this !

Turn 10 really dropped the ball in F3 when they didnt include local (personal) times

Oh yeah and PD , if its gonna take 5 mins to load each leaderboard everytime you want to look at a newly posted time you might aswell forget it !

Ive put GT5 back in its case until PD realease enough patches to fix this shoddy mess how ever long that may take .
Who knows, might be never !

GT5 could learn a lot from GT4.

For endurance races, pitstops, day/night cycles, weather patterns etc.. in 24 Hours Le Mans. Lotus Challenge had a good software damage engine, and Ridge Racer 5 had great AI opponents at the higher levels.... excuse my reminiscing of old PS2 games, but they were both challenging and fun.

-Qualification both for A-spec and online.
-Ability to set amount of fuel at start.
-Proper damage
-Replay controls
-Adequate A.I. you could actually race
-Performance points system
-Consistent sound quality
-Specific car/track leaderboards-god that was fun in prologue.
I too have put GT5beta away until they fix it.

That's what I meant, you have racing modification but you can have choice as to what kind of regulations they adhere to, its not as hard as your making out to make a car fit into regulations, the only hard part is making it competitive, as far as reading and understanding them is concerned, the reading time isn't that long and if you know your racing you'll understand them straight away. Therefore it isn't THAT hard for PD to pull their finger out.

It's all BS!! Lots of nonsense comparisons... As I say before if you want features from that other crappy games stay on them and forget about GT
