Just a thought that i would like to share. In real life, is so different the performance
between manual transmission and automatic transmission in the same model of a car?
And just the question, is it real as it occurs in Grand Tour - Eiger (Alfa Romeo 8C)?

I tried with AT and with a 95% driving accuracy i did worse times than a MT 8C with a
lot of errors, i can say 60% driving accuracy!

We are talking about an expensive car, with a lot of study and analysis in the implementation
of the mechanical part of the shifts.

Maybe this kind of track, with very tight turns, and the power of the car are any of the reasons?

I read the following threads but my question is more directed to the reasons of so
remarkable differences in this specific situation, with this special track with a particular car.

Summarizing :dopey:... always there are differences between MT and AT, but in a tight track with a powerful car, is real so much difference?

Have you ever seen a race with drivers using automatic transmissions ?

Although in recent cars the paddles or gear stick are sometimes connected to an automatic gearbox, you need a control over the gear changes, its a vital part of driving and is absolutely necessary when driving a car at the limit.

Can you imagine yourself in a bend at 200kmh having the car changing gear for no apparent reason? you'd be dead in a heart beat.

Also keep in mind that with a few rare exceptions, the "automatic transmissions" in the game are just manuals being shifted by the computer. They don't model actual automatic transmission mechanics with torque converters and fluid routing plates and such, which is where you get the performance loss in the real world.

Automatically-controlled manuals do exist in real life...sequential transmissions with an "automatic" mode, such as what I imagine the real Alfa 8C has. These are not true "automatic transmissions" in the traditional sense.

Some race drivers actually use an Automatic Transmission in order to focus more on their braking, turn in, and track out.

Yeah, specially in these kinds of tracks, focusing on cornering becomes crucial.

On the other hand, you can rely on a better selection of the gears to power slide the tail and corner faster using manual tranny, specially in the two first corners succession, something that is not obtainable using auto shift. That's where the main difference between AT and MT is in this track.

in real life i would prefer a double clutch transmission then a manual, but in GT5 i prefer an automatic transmission for the high powered cars up to 550kw
