Closing Seasonal Events -- Why?

I'm a little disappointed in PD for placing an expiration time on some of the Seasonal Events.
I don't understand why PD would spend 5 years making a game to remove strictly A-Spec content.

What are your thoughts?

In my opinion, as long as they place new events to replace the old ones...then no problem.

And besides, they are "SEASONAL" events.

This must be among the strangest threads on GTP.

We get new events which give you tons of XP and money and they refresh every week so we can do new things every week (and get more money and XP) and people are complaining because they.... ehh.... why again?

I like the events given how challenging they are, and therefore id like them to stay, but its pointless if there's no reward. I wouldn't mind seeing them in A-spec but with a normal payout like any other A-spec level.

I wish they would completely do away with the seasonal events if they are going to make them so easy. The first two were great now they are a joke and a complete waste of time. Just add a seasonal credit button and give everyone two weeks to hit the button before they send out a new credit. That would make all the whinners who cried until the ruined the whole concept, happy at least, and apparently that is the only crowd PD cares about. Just do away with the whole thing and sell us options. I would gladly pay a reasonable amount to get a challenging bonus like the first two. YA HEAR ME PD?? I WILL GLADLY PAY!!!!! Pay to get a real sim challenge. I would even pay just to get rid of the format the way it is now. Redo it or trash it. This CR and XP for doing nothing is doing nothing but shortening and watering down the game. Just stop it or make it harder.

.........and apparently that is the only crowd PD cares about......

According to wikipedia (I know, not very reliable in some cases), As of December 2010, Gran Turismo 5 sold over 5.5 million units. For 13 days, 423,000 copies of the game were sold per day.[94] Gran Turismo 5 is now the best-selling video game for the PlayStation 3.

There are 176000 users on this website, and however many x% of that number own this game, im sure alot of them would love the seasonal events to be difficult and challenging. But going by the number above, even if every member of this forum owns the game, and bought it in December, we only represent 3.2% of game buyers. Therefore I am not surprised that they took away the restrictions. After all, people like us are presumable going to continue to buy every game in the series, but those who decide that grinding ruined the game for them will not continue to buy it.

I am in no way saying that PD doesn't care about us, or that our opinions are not as worthwhile as the rest of the general public, but after all they are a business and need to bring in max game sales.

No time for a summer friend
No time for the love you send
Seasons change and so did I
You need not wonder why
You need not wonder why
There's no time left for you
No time left for you.

The Guess Who - "No Time"

Basically the simple fix would be removing prizes when the race expires but keeping it there for those who come to the game later. JUST as they did with the time trial / drift ones. Consistency isn't much of a buzzword in PD it seems.

All the same though, it's lovely we at least get something for our money! Considering the number of copies sold I'm hoping they keep supporting the game for a few years at least.

The only gripe i have with SE as it is-is that there are only 5 bonus races instead of like 10....having said that, there is a quick turn over of SE bonus races so all in all, i'm happy with it as it is.

ps, it would be good (as others have said) if the bonus races were moved (or, if we had the option to move them or not) to dealership races with far reduced XP and credits.

I do miss the dealership one make races... those were always fun, competitive races and they usually gave good rewards and prize cars. Like if you did a honda one, you'd get some cool honda race car that you couldn't get anywhere else. I feel like they didn't get to complete the game before publishing and the one make races where a spot that was left out.

Very true, my brother has my copy of GT4 at the moment :grumpy:

GT 4 is FAR superior when it comes to game play...

But that's not what this thread is about :nervous:

you're gonna like this bit even less, the prize money and exp is gonna plummet in a few weeks... (which is kinda odd since the max payout is by default much much lower than some of the cars cost even....)

They are seasonal for a reasson besides if they stayed in A-spec how many times will you come back ? personally I haven´t re-done the A-spec more than a few times.
besides maybe in a future event they will add more A-spec events

Also missing those reces here :(

Edit : sorry for double postin.

You're right, this is one of the strangest threads on GTP. It really illustrates the willingness of lots of players to overlook the endless bizarre and nonsensical decisions PD make concerning the game.

In what way could the game possibly be worse if seasonal events didn't expire? There is no reason to close them AT ALL. If they're going to close them because they're worried about paying out too much XP/cash at a time, why not just eliminate the rewards while keeping the events playable? Why not maximize the amount of content available? How would that keep people from coming back? If anything, I would be MORE inclined to come back if I knew that there was a backlog of, say, two months of events that I could play instead of just two weeks.

That's what this thread is about.

I love the Seasonals.

Now, work and family obligations mean that I might never get to do some, or I might miss a particular week (yeah, even with a 2 week life-span), but I love them.

It's a challenge you do, then move on. Weeks later, we can talk about them... "Hey, remember that iMiev event last month? Annoying!"... or "You finished the Schwimwagen event with what tires, again?"... or "Stock Ford GT at Trial Mountain? No way..."

Hell... the fact that the Seasonal Events have a time limit generates interest. Besides "Like the Wind" and the B-Spec "I can't get Bob to win in Pick-ups" thing, how many races in A-Spec are truly ever discussed?

While I rued the fact that GT5P's online race structure cycled regularly, at least it gave you a reason to learn new tracks, drive new cars and find new tunes.

And that makes the game replayable. And enjoyable.

Down the line, I agree with many others here that they would be nice to implement as dealership challenges. Buy the car at the dealership and race it bone-stock (okay, except in the case of the Schwimwagen... ) and attempt to win back a portion of the value of the car. I sorely miss those events from GT3.

I'm a little disappointed in PD for placing an expiration time on some of the Seasonal Events. It is the perfect venue for challenges like GT Academy, time trials, and drift trials -- where we're competing against one another to determine a winner. But to me it is unacceptable to add additional A-Spec content (essentially additional Special Events) which the game needs, and then remove it.

I like to enjoy the nuances of the game e.g. tune cars, photo mode, course maker, browse the UCD, compare specs etc. (all while enduring the brutal load times in between each screen). I don't have a lot of free time in the first place, and I've always enjoyed GT allowing you to play the game at whatever pace you like. Now though, I'm feeling rushed to get these events in before they expire--the rewards are too good to let them pass by, which I like.

I don't understand why PD would spend 5 years making a game to remove strictly A-Spec content.

Does any other game/media do this? Do you buy a blu-ray or dvd to have certain scenes delete if you haven't watched the movie in its entirety?

What are your thoughts?

No.

What I see is that Seasonal Events should be "transfered" into some special part of A-Spec career, together with appropriate restrictions (as seen in SE #1 and #2).

From there, you could race them as much as you want for deducted sum of Cr/XP.

Also, I agree about Dealership Races, but PD should just realize they have the Infinite Solution for Solving Grinding Process™ on their disposal.

If you could race Dealership Car Spec Races™ with every car on any track (as we could in GT PSP game for instance) and being rewarded with some amount of Cr/XP depending of AI-setting (Amateur/Normal/Professional, as in Arcade) and length and pre-condition of the race (length determines Cr/XP as in GTPSP, while usage of assits/damage model adjust the Cr/XP handicap), whole structure of the game would change for all players.

Further improvement would be allowing to have mixed-fields (also as in GTPSP) and thus adjusting Cr/XP.

We have to wait and see what will February update bring.

I would like to have the events still there but perhap for no or very little Cr...'

Some of the races were so good I would consider keeping the car tuned for the restiction so that when someone came over I could show the the race and let them live the thrill of earning that 1st place...

I'm looking at you Skyline on SSR5!!!

I agree with this post 100%...especially the Skyline/SSR5 race!

I really like the seasonal events and hope they keep it going. Maybe cut back on xp and cr given for golding the bonus race

I hope they don't cutback on xp until I can open all the endurance races.
Otherwise its back to grinding.

And hopefully a big bonus for self-restriction... a la A-Spec 200. But that's a topic for another topic. ;)

I hope February's update is kick-ass.

What are you guys doing with all of the cars you bought for the seasonal events that can no longer be run?

This is another one of those threads here on GTP that make we want to stop coming to the site. There is to much complaining about the game on this site. We are lucky and should be thankful for the "bonus races", "seasonal events" that we have been given thus far. PD could have released the game, said here it is enjoy, and that was it. The fact that they are adding any content at all, without charging us, is great and we should be thankful. with the risk of getting flamed. I also play FPS (COD to be specific) any "extra" content they add I have to pay for. i.e. map packs. So let stop all the complaining be happy that PD is at least attemping to make people happy by adding content, because it could be the other extreme where we don't get anything.

They need some more hardcore seasonal events.

How about replicating the last 24 hrs or Le mans? I mean you don't do the whole 24 hours, but the last two hours when the Peugeots were really going at it to un-lap themselves and try to get the win.

I think the idea is to keep you coming back. If there's new events every week or two, you have to keep checking in, you have to keep racing, you have to keep buying and modding cars, theoretically. That's entirely by design, I'd say. And a damn good idea on PD's part. How do you keep a game relevant? Keep adding content, but make it time sensitive!
My thoughts eggzactly :)

It would be good if when the seasonals expired they went into an A-Spec section for reduced XP/cr. But I'm just happy there's SOMETHING else to help me get from lvl.35 to 40. I don't fancy doing the enduros more than once or twice.

Off-topic: I saw several references on this thread about DLC and a big Feb update. Does anyone know anything about this?

The truth of the matter is that the GT series is held to a higher standard the most other games. GT5 is a system seller, meaning people like my father and myself paid 300 bucks for the system (gt5 included) plus a wheel. It is likely this is only game he or I will ever play on this console. There are many people like this. As far as I am concerned longevity is a requirement of this game. Thanks to PD for offering seasonals to extend its life, and I hope (and most respectfully demand as a consumer) that new content will continue to be released up until GT6. For the record, so far I am pleased with the game and PD in general thus far. Please keep it up!
