Background Story:
I believe this is the third revival of a small ToCA3 (or V8 Supercars 3 or DTM3) time trial that a few friends and I held a few weeks before GT5's release and in 2009. Seeing as PSN's down (oh God, I had to mentioned it :ouch:) we could probably have one more go, especially since the Time Trial forum gets a lot more traffic now :dopey:.

Location, Location, Location:
As we all know. The Nürburgring is possibly the most awesomest track in the history of the world. The track that we'll be racing is known as the 'Sprint Circuit'. The Sprint Circuit was first used in 2002 and is around 3.6kms long. The full GP is used in F1, DTM, Superbike and the Euro, German and the Luxembourg Grand Prix events. We're using DTM because it's automatically unlocked at the very start.

Rules:
  • Go to: Simulation→Time Trial→Touring Cars→DTM→Nürburgring Short
  • Corner Cutting is automatically turned on. Don't believe me? Try cutting a corner :trouble:
  • In the Pro-Simulation options: Gravel Traps and Damage are compulsory. Pro-Handling is not.
  • All types of transmissions are allowed.
  • Tuning is permitted.
  • Finally, you may do as much laps as possible.
  • You can discuss tuning options and your times here (don't give an exact time, but you can hint at it (see post #4)
  • PS2, Xbox, PC and the PSP versions are allowed. You can use a wheel or a controller. Just tell me what you're using when you PM me your time (You can discuss it in this thread as well).

DEADLINE
Send me a Private Message with your final time before 8.00AM, 23rd May GMT.

Have fun, and go for it, and special thanks to Bram Turismo for his awesome Banner!!

Sweet, so it's not just me that's gonna do it :dopey:
Oh, and I've changed the rules so you're able to discuss your times. Don't make it exact though. Just say that you've gotten under 2'0X.xx or something like that 👍

I got under 2 hours 2'2X.XXX. Think I win this one guys, sorry to ruin the fun by ending it so early!

Wow you're slow. I got under 1 hour (barely) :D

Congrats on 1000 posts Imakuni

You guys are quick, I got like 3 hours (I have no idea) :dunce:

I think I'll enter this. Haven't played it for awhile...

I'm struggling to even get a clean lap in. Having no L2 R2 triggers for accel and brake is very strange!

I've only recently changed over to using the shoulder buttons for GT5 (only got a PS3 in January). Plus the PS2's analogue sticks use a different material, so I guess I've got a skin memory of sorts and really got back into the PS2 racing :D

Seems my DS2 has taken a beating after a year or so of not being used - Left analogue is pulling to the left constantly which isn't that helpful.

Best I got was a 1:07.XX using Hakkinen's Mercedes C-Klasse, from cockpit view.

Using DS2, manual gears, no aids, fully pro, no tuning.

Not doing so great so far, but loving the track and car combo, very enjoyable.

Off to try the Vectra!

I guess I've got an advantage... I don't have a PS3, only a PS2...

I have an advantage when switching from DS3 to DS2, because they're both the same controller, a no feedback wheel :sly:

You heard that? I'm coming in :D

InvincibleM5 - Highcroft Racing - Mercedes - #11

Ahmad, I thought you were dead! (jk, not really :p)
I knew you'd join in

Time sent.

SVX - Really fast racing - Used the Mercedes - 555

Maybe I can try that with a DS3.

Don't tell me that I can't use a DS3 on a PC or a PS2 or something. Screw the rules, I has MotionInJoy.

I can use the DS3 on the PC too, it's quite fun playing an old NFS game (but I'm too busy playing GT2 that I'm borrowing... zomg it's awesome :dopey:)

Ok guys, unfotunately i'm out. My DS2 left analogue has stopped working completely so I can't set a new time to replace my previous, suspect time. Good luck to those still in!

Hey, you could still be faster than some of us. I barely got under 1'08 . I'd ship you my 2nd DS2, but I'm too poor for pay for it :p

Try some tuning, Josh. It helps quite a bit. My PS2's not plugged in right now and I'm fighting off zombies and space monkeys now so I'll try and give you the specs I used.
Oh, and what transmission are you using?

Wow, thanks, that would be greatly appreciated!
I did auto, as I felt it was quite hard as on V8 Supercars, front R1 and R2 do the gear shifting, and in other games L2 and R2 do it.

I thought the default was L2/R2 for shifting... I changed it to R1/R2 after being addicted to NFS:Prostreet for a while. Can't do anything else (although on PS3 I use
18px-PlayStationSquare.svg.png
to shift up and
18px-PlayStationCircle.svg.png
to shift down, the triggers are Accelerate and Brake 👍

I got a really quick time me thinks, :D I only had two laps that went down, sadly they were in Automatic after finding it impossible to get a clean lap with Manual with Clutch :(

Tiptronic (Manual without clutch) is the way to go I think. Auto has bad shift times and full Manual is hard to use when you're concentrating on hitting the apex. I've tuned up the transmission and it's doing wonders as well. With this set up I've managed to get well under 1'08 (w/o Pro-Handling).
Here's what I use:
Downforce: 87% / 85%
Anti-Roll: 0.35 / 0.53
Tyres: 0.00 (really soft) / 50% / 50%
Brake Bias: 56/44
Ride Height: 0.07 / 0.00
Suspension: (No Changes)
Toe & Camber: (No Changes)
Transmission: Default, but Final Drive is to the left by one notch
Transmission Type: Manual (No Clutch)

Controls:
Acc/Brake - Up/Down RA Stick
Steer - Left/Right LA Stick
Shift Up - R1
Shift Down - R2
Pro-Handling Off

Automatic really hurts your laptime mate. Driving with a manual clutch is surely hard. It's difficult to get through a lap without misuse the clutch and damage the transmission. The best way is just turn off the clutch option somewhere in the setting, and that's what I'm doing now. It can help you mate ;)

 mate, I'll get some laps in tomorrow, and test Daniel's set up, to see if I can get into the 05's
