I guess this only implies to those that take this game serious and has a spouse, girlfriend, lover, baby momma, boyfriend, or whatever.

But when they say you spend to much time on a game, or to much money for a game (ie buying wheels, cockpits, triple screen, etc) what is your response? I'm curious what kind of crazy logic we've all come up with because in all reality, it really is just a game. It may be cheaper than actually buying a real car and going to a real track, but we will never get that experience from a video game. Yet.

So what's your reasoning?

Guys

Discussing illegal activities and bypassing the swear filter are both AUP violations, as such I have no choice but to remove these posts, they also added little to the discussion at large.

I would also caution those posting from attempting to turn this into a general 'have a go at the ladies' thread, the AUP also covers attacks on any group and general Ad hominem attacks on any group will be dealt with rather quickly.

As a number of members have been involved I wanted to make this a public warning rather than issue personal warnings/infractions, however should this advise not be taken on board I am more than willing to move to that level.

This topic is worth discussing, but please keep it within the AUP and on-topic.

Activities that are no longer illegal in Washington and Colorado states if I recall correctly...

Oh lol okay gotcha

That would be the use of illegal substances.

Umm I've seen alot of other threads about people talking about illegal substances yet nothing happens to them. But I don't wont to sound mad just wondering.

Let it be.

On topic: tell her that she will always know where to find you when you're playing and you don't be out getting into trouble.

We have one thread that discussed the pros and cons of legalisation (which does not break the AUP), however if the staff find any thread and/or post that breaks the AUP we will take the action we feel is appropriate (oh and please don't double post)

The topic of use is not permitted under the AUP and also is not on-topic for this thread. Now can we either get this discussion back on topic or it will be locked.

I agree with her. I find interacting with a loved one in actual reality far more rewarding than playing gran Turismo, which I consider a poor substitute for reality with little or no real world consequence. It's a toy, not to dissimilar to what pong was to tennis. Sure it's fun to play ever so often with some pixels on a screen.

Looking through some people's attitude I can't help but think that maybe some people need to put down the controller and the pipe and get out and live life.

Sorry wont happen again but what illegal activities were we talking about.

It doesn't matter.

Back when we both had time to play games, we had no problems with game play because it didn't interfere with real life. And it is just a game. Now, we have kids, and I barely find time to play GT, and honestly, I don't really miss it.

It's none of your business. Get back in the kitchen.

...said nobody ever, unless they wanted to sleep on the couch for a week.

My dad used to say it too me all the time and never understood how it helped me to relax, as a form of meditation if you like. It took me years of trying to explain it before he realised to me it is more than a game.

That is literally what I said... holy damn get outta my head.

My current partner sort of glazes over when I talk about cars though so, it works I guess

That's what I would say. If i had a significant other haha

She: "When are you going to stop playing that game?"
Me: "Soon. And it's not a game. It's good for my brain."
She: "It's a game. You better get off that, because I need to play, too. Are you using my file?"
Me: 'No!"
She: "Okay, shut down, you need to make lunch with the boys. I still have to beat Toscana."
Me: :grumpy:

I don't actually have anyone in my home so thankfully i can do like i want, but my opinion on this it's pretty simple:
You don't say "Why you wasted two hours of your life watching a film" (unless it was horrible, ok), i don't see any problem with spending a certain amount of time doing something entertaining, expecially in those type of games that are more like an hobby more than a game, for many of us.

I think it's funny when she says that. She doesn't realize that when I play, it helps me to relax and focus. It doesn't matter if its GT5 or real life, driving is the one thing I do that helps me to stop worrying about all the stuff that goes on in my life. I never feel more focused. It's funny though, cause the few times I've actually got her to play with me, she has won. >:(

It is more than just a game -- for many, it's a hobby. Maybe it's not the healthiest hobby, as we're just sitting there for stretches at a time, but at least it's easy to keep tabs on us and keeps us safe... unless they want us to head out to the bars with our boys and get into the sorts of shenanigans a night out with the boys usually entails. Wrap our car around a pole. Wrap a strange girl around our pole. Shenanigans.

They're just shoes too... :sly:

Oh no you didn't! :nervous:

I say "just sign here", and then I get my divorce and everything is cool again.

"You're probably right that it's just a game honey, and a bit childish and artificial to think I'm actually racing sitting in front of the TV looking at moving pixels, I might fulfill that lifelong dream of building a 1/32 scale Scalextric Nordschleife in our livingroom instead and have some friends over a few times each week so we can have actual races face to face.....okay?"

Buy her a PS3 and GT5: get her to level xx and tell her if she golds the Vettel Challenge you'll buy her something shiny.

That should only buy you a few years peace, but it's a start. :dopey:

I thank her actually. In 20 years of marriage, I have learned that my wife has no problem with my gaming and generally doesn't care. Knowing this, if she feels the need to let me know about it, I am probably ignoring other and more important items.

GT5 is nothing more then entertainment to me. My family and career do not benefit from my ability to race around the 'Ring better.

👍
