Real Racing Sim - Sunday Endurance Race

Thanks to asdfg11 for the countdown timer!

General Info About Races: Our goal is to provide a racing simulation experience for everyone. Real off-road grip, weak slipstream, tire wear on, and yes, heavy damage! ABS is optional.

The potential for damage encourages respect and sportsmanship among everyone, making penalties unnecessary -- GT5's penalty system is easily gamed, often penalizes the victim and does nothing to further the "racing simulation".

The races are usually long enough to require at least one pit for tires and/or gas depending on the car. We also enjoy racing real life cars, and offer a wide range of racing experiences, from VW Buses to F1's, some tuned, some untuned, you name it. Feel free to check out the Facebook page ( http://tinyurl.com/GT5-LPP ) to post race suggestions and say hello!

Room & Car Regulations:
Caterham Seven Fireblade '02 (Standard)

Tuning Prohibited Room
Sports Hard tires
Everything goes as long as you can get on the track
(Oil changes, engine rebuilds, paint etc are allowed)

You must pit at least once before the race timer reaches 55 minutes

  • Standard race quality
  • Standard microphone quality
  • Collisions on
  • Heavy damage
  • No penalties
  • Weak slipstream
  • Tire wear/Fuel consumption on "Normal"
  • Real grip reduction on wet/edge
  • Visual damage on
  • ABS available
  • All other assists off
Qualifying & Rolling Starts:
  • Qualifying begins promptly at 9:00 PM Eastern (refer to the countdown timer above if you're not on the east coast) and will last 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Qualifying will have collisions off and be on light damage.
  • When you have a time you like, pull over to a secluded spot or drive into the pits, while we record your time. If you are unable to complete a qualifying lap in the time allotted, or if you leave or exit the track before we record your lap time, you will start at the back of the pack.
  • If lap times are not registering properly on my screen, I will tell everyone to keep track of their lap times.
  • At the start of the race, drivers will manually line up in formation for a ROLLING START. When the race timer counts down, and the race START message appears, DO NOT MOVE. Stay in the starting grid until the starting line up is called out.
  • We will manually line up in qualifying order. Once everyone is in the correct order, the driver in the pole position will set a pace not exceeding 60 MPH / 96 KPH, and begin the race by breaking that pace. Please do not overtake other drivers until the pole/pace car breaks pace and begins accelerating to race speed. Then, THE RACE IS ON.
Full Course Caution Until Clean Start:
  • This policy applies until we complete one continuous clean lap or two continuous minutes of clean racing on longer courses, without multi-car incidents. Cautions will only be available at the beginning of the race. We will repeat it as many times as necessary to get an incident free start.
  • If there are any multi-car incidents, where any driver is knocked well off the track by another driver, we will call a FULL COURSE CAUTION. The policy does not apply to individual drivers losing control, even if an offending driver has minor contact with other drivers who continue racing.
  • Once a caution is issued, please do not overtake any drivers, even if you are heading to the pits.
  • All drivers (not in the pits) will form-up for another Manual Rolling Start behind the current race leader, who will maintain pace speed until everyone is in formation again, and restart according the approach used at the beginning of the race.
Prizes:
  • First place (Level 19 car ticket, 5 car paints)
  • Second place (5 car paints)
Other Notes: The GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines applies with some changes/additions.
  1. Bump drafting is allowed where it makes sense.
  2. Keep racing on the track, regardless of incident, unless cars behind you are approaching. Time, depending on severity of incident, will be added to your final race time once complaints are filed and replays checked. If you decide to allow the other driver(s) to pass because of a collision, be absolutely sure that you will not be in the way of other drivers. When in doubt, keep racing.
  3. Drivers that are to be lapped are under no obligations to move out of the way, as long as they are not intentionally blocking. Most tracks have many sections to overtake. If you're faster, you'll find a way to pass.
  4. There will be no race restarts for people that disconnect, unless something extreme happens like half the room disconnects at the same time. Common sense will dictate what's appropriate. People that disconnect will still earn points (where applicable) depending on when they disconnected.
  5. Anyone found violating the car regulations will be harshly penalized, i.e. dropped into last place in the race results. "I didn't know" is not a valid reason.
  6. Track boundaries are generally the same as those enforced by the GT5 penalty system and as defined by section 16: Offline Racing in the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules linked above. See the illustration below. Occasional unintended infractions will be tolerated, particularly if you visibly attempt to correct a bad line by braking, etc. or you have lost control of your vehicle. Patterns of abuse will not be tolerated, and complaints will be investigated as noted in #2 above.

Oh yeah, message me as early as you can if you need a car. I can only send one a day.

You should be around 164-165 horsepower.

Are we doing Weather or Time Change? I'm guessing no. In any case consider at least doing a daylight time change (Start at morning, finish at night (With Sun still up)). Nordschleife can be really beautiful during certain times of the day.

No weather, but I am planning on the time change. No complete darkness though.

Yes!! Finally the nordschleife, put me down, ill try and make it because I absolutely love this track

Thanks for picking my suggestion. Should be a lot of fun, I love cars that you have to wrestle with to keep on the road.

I have like 10 of these in case anyone needs one

My feelings exactly, very well put. The only problem is trying to re-educate all those who have grown soft & got into bad habits through racing with damage off & penalties on!

I was so up for this until I saw that mics would be on, that's a race killer for me. The time is also not good for me, I'm UK & that would mean a 2am start, I'd be half asleep.

All the best with this, sounds great for guys who can make it. :D

I really wish I could race this one, sadly, I have to get up at 6 the next morning. :(

If anyone needs a car, I have a complete set of broken in Cat 7s from the OCD. 👍

8:15 with a spin-out on the carousel. Only ran 2 laps (1+1 counted Online) - 165 HP

I dunno, If you have less power, that could certainly be an issue. Otherwise I would say you're not being brave enough :p

Ill have to look at my hp, I know I am also not being as brave as I could be, im gonna have to get a better handle on the car.

Im down to 8:14s just needed a little less fear haha, this car has a quite fragile rear end.

I'll try to make it... It's been months since I've raced with you guys!

Well this sounds like good fun its been awhile since i drove the Cat the race league im in is stalled :(

Links in my sig .

Sport hards are quite slick too but with the stock setup it dont sound to bad .

Nice to see some familiar faces lol

I've heard about the Cat league from no_bull (we've raced occasionally), but Mondays in general don't work out for me, so unfortunately I can't race.

See you on the track :)

I am opening a public practice room -- short races -- Sunday specs*

* Except for light damage and fast tire wear (due to short races)

Will give it a least a couple of hours. May also open up a similar room at other times this weekend. Possible late at night and also Saturday afternoon.

ROOM OPEN NOW - 12:45 AM Eastern 12/23 "UnTuned Caterham Nürb"
1472 - 6118 - 3701 - 4257 - 1696

We had fun. Racefan and a new guy, MXP????, that Brad invited (Brad not there). Should see them on Sunday. Couple of other random racers joined along the way.

2:30 AM Eastern 12/23 - Expecting to have a room open again Saturday, late afternoon Eastern / early afternoon Pacific.

ROOM OPEN NOW - 3 PM ET / Noon PT 12/23 "UnTuned Caterham Nürb"
1472 - 6118 - 3658 - 4761 - 0959

5 PM ET / 2 PM PT 12/23 -- Room closed now. Was never more than 3 or 4 at once, often just 2, but a number of folks came and went. A guy looking to race tomorrow, STIGS-SON, came for one race, just before Petosh arrived. Stig did well, but he did not stay to see Petosh pull a lap time of 8:12 in the dark, with a spin!

Gonna be stiff competition. I hope it is well attended tomorrow.

Strangely, the first guy to join very early on, did not speak much english but stayed almost the whole 2 hours. That helped keep it going.

Would someone please send SKJ-2012 a Caterham? I used up my one car gift today, getting a fresh Cat from my second account. Worst case I can give him one later tonight, but I would appreciate anyone covering it.

Glad you agree. We have been racing like this almost two years and almost a year of posting here on GTPlanet. We have not had much trouble with folks adapting. The biggest adjustment for most is learning to drive defensively to protect your vehicle. Regardless who is at fault, you are stuck with any damage you pick-up.

Sorry to hear that. Mics are funny topic, and I can see both sides. Some want none of it and some insist on it. If you ever find that you are available for one of our races, I would suggest muting everyone except alefin and perhaps me during qualifying, in order to get any instructions and then mute everyone at race time.

I do not imagine that anyone would object. alefin also types out certain info like starting grid order, etc. So, we are pretty equal opportunity on that score. We certainly do not require mics -- many who race with us do not use them -- and as long as we know that you are muting us, I don't see any problem.

Thanks for checking us out!

I'm going to have to sit this one out...mostly because I procrastinated on some schoolwork...

SKJ, do you still need a car? I also sent you a PSN message. Please reply.

Most likely i will not push that hard in the race. Its not a good idea in 2 hhour race.

Also after race i noticed i was 8 bhp short :D
i WILL join the race tonight

PSN: Petosh

I can send one now. I will look for a confirmation from you, alefin, that you have NOT sent one already.

Will also check my PSN messages.

My car now has 160 miles on it, and HP fell off 3 BHP down from 165, but came back up after another oil change.

Later in the day I was able to get an 8:28 in a practice room. It takes a long time to get the feel for when you can push and when you can't. I think the practice helped. I hope it pays off tomorrow. If I can pull 8:45's or better with any regularity and/or manage to avoid getting lapped, I will be happy. My goal is to stay within 5 minutes of the leaders. If I can get a time on the board, that would be a victory for me.
