GPUpdate
Michael Schumacher turned to taxi driving this week as he took over behind the wheel of a taxi in order to get his family to the airport on time. The Schumacher family was on a trip to the village of Gehuelz in southern Germany and got delayed leaving them short of time to make their flight home, the Muenchener Abendzeitung newspaper reported. So Schumacher hailed a taxi and to make it on time, took the wheel himself.

"It was crazy having Schumi driving, with me in the passenger seat," the taxi driver said. Schumacher made his flight and gave the taxi driver a 100 euro top on top of the 60 euro fare.

Well, at least it didn't end up like those two blockheads in Day's of Thunder when they rented cars. :dopey:

The taxi driver was probably relieved. Can you imagine the stress of having to drive someone like him?

Now that has to be one of the luckiest taxi driver around. How often do you get to drive along side a 7 time World Champion, let alone him driving your taxi....

I saw it on sky sports news, and after they ahd read the story, one of them said, "Damon Hill was also in a taxi on his way to the airport but Schumie knocked him off the road and he missed his flight".

I lol'd.

"and this is where his hands deftly controled the wheel" :D

Would be interesting experience for sure.

How good could a 7 time world champion drive a taxi?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

A DTM ride in the near-future for him perhaps...?

:sly:👍

LMFAO. That would be crazy.

Now, I wonder if the streets of Geheulz have black marks all over them...

"Looks like Michael's late to the airport again..."

Would schumi get into a Merc!
But thats a hilarious find. I'd say it was a Fiat Diablo or that crap van thing he did an add for a while ago!

Sounds more like a Hakkinen-merdeces advertisement to me

have you not heard this one?

"So I'm doing a fast lap in a Ferrari 599," says Walter Rohrl. "We had one in for benchmarking purposes. I saw a car up ahead and thought I'd catch him. As I got closer, I could see it was another 599. He was oversteering, and then he ran wide into Galgenkopf, and I passed him.

"Anyway, as I was cooling down, this other 599 pulled level with me, the window went down, and the driver said, 'You b*stard! You beat me round here in a Ferrari!' It was Michael Schumacher..."

Walter Röhrl is a fantastic driver and a Nürburgring Nordschleife expert/veteran. He is doing tests there regulary plus he is doing the Nordschleife power lap times for Germany's "Auto, Motor & Sport". You can say he is "The Nordschleife Stig". He is probably not the best race driver, but he is still a top driver and he knows the track. Therefore no other driver worldwide will do a faster lap around the Ring with identical cars, not even Schumi.

Well, now even this hilarious ride will lead to conbtroversy because he may be charged with driving the taxi on the grounds that he does not have a taxi license.

This is my heavily-biased opinion, but: "Sheesh, the man is a 7-time World Champion and he got the taxi back safe. Are taxis that different from stock cars? I'm not even going to get into the F1 bit!"

Honestly this is the cabbie's fault. He should've just kept his mouth shut or simply not allow Michael to take the wheel, although if I were him I would've done the same thing. :)

Now, had this been anybody else you all would be flaming the person and saying how irresponsible he is and that he put innocent lives at stake just so he could get on a plane.

Instead you just lifted his throne a little higher.

Well, the difference between a 'normal person' and Michael Schumacher is that one has shown his driving acumen to great consistency, justified by 7 World Championships, and it is given that he is comfortable with driving cars at great speeds. A normal person has yet to prove his/her driving skills, thus there is still doubt.

The German also brightened a cabbie's day; he made the cab driver smile.

So, is there not reason that we are refraining from flaming whoever you mention (the cabbie is not on GT Planet, or likely so) and instead protest that a normally dead-serious man is lightening up on the streets and making someone's day, that was otherwise stress-ridden and boring?

That is a pretty sweet story, Michael Schumacher is one of the best F1 drivers of all time so I dont think its a big deal if he drove the taxi to catch a flight. Like someone said earlier, imagine the pressure the cabbi would have been in had he driven, can you say "Back seat driver?"

Sorry that you feel that way. Seven time world champ in an F1 car in a controlled environment doesn't give you any more right to do that than for Ghostrider to do those 200mph wheelies down the interstate (though I will agree that is is the dumber move).

but exactly how crazy did Schumacher drive? all we know is that he drove, we dont know any facts. What roads did he drive on? Autobahn?

Whoa, condescension at its best here!

F1 cars are still difficult to drive, and Schumacher still has the reflexes to drive quickly, even if in a controlled environment. Sure, he was stupid in driving very fast in a taxi. I just find it strange that they charge him not on the grounds of dangerous driving, but for not having a taxi license.

Yes, your argument came through to me, but the fact that perhaps I have a differing opinion than you does not equal a warrant to flame me.
