I play GT5: Prologue with the pad, as I play every racing sim on pc with it....well, on pc i use the x-box 360 pad....

I referred the brakes and the acceleration to the triggers ( L2 & R2 ) and it's just messed up. :(

You can't use the whole *trigger way*. At maybe 75% pressure, the car brakes or accelerates FULL!
It's pretty hard to controll the car like that. Because you can't evaluate the amount of throttle. 50% trigger pressure doesn't mean 50% throttle. :indiff:

I use the sixxaxxis ( or so :dunce: ) controller. Maybe, it already works well with the DualShock 3.

PD, if you rework the configurations ( or just let the player do it ), i will rework my English. 👍 :dopey:

[edit] Well, we have to live with the PS3-pad anyway.
But my problem with GT5's pad configuration is just a matter of the software.

I totally agree with you. The triggers on the xbox 360 controller are much better.

Tell the truth, I want PD to work more on wheels, Which already they are doing awesome job, One of the finest FFBs I've seen in a racing game. GT5P is only half as fun without the wheel. Consider getting one :)

And I agree, If triggers cant be pressure 100% its not acceptable.

I personally use the right analog stick to handle acceleration and braking inputs. What this does is that I have a decided advantage in working the throttle and brakes. I consider throttle control as my "talent" in the games I play. Since I don't have a full-on steering wheel setup, I rely on feathering the throttle to get the amount of input I'd like to get. I've even made careful use of the throttle for when I've done some go-kart racing.

You can't rule out that there will be variations in coming up with a control scheme. It may be like most PC games in which there are so many different options to choose from, but end up using most of them for your gamepad. Now I can think of why you'd want the L2 and R2 for accelerating and decelerating (which is not bad to use)- XBOX racing titles. Hitting the triggers kind of get you a better feel than just pressing any of the regular buttons. I even use the trigger buttons on my Sidewinder when I play rFactor and other PC racing games in my collection. All I'm saying is that I'm pretty sure PD will allow a lot more leeway in determining what specific options we have in making a custom button layout. I even enjoyed that I could still play GT4 with the DFP without having to have my pedals for the DFP. I hope this doesn't change for subsequent GTs as well.

Wheel all the way! If you can afford one then buy a G25, if not then buy a DFP, and if you cant afford one of them, then save up.

I just don't want to use a wheel. And it's not necessary, if you're able to use a well configured game pad. ;)
I play GT Legends with a pad and there is no problem to controll the beasts.

I'm a couch surfer and my PS3 is in the living room, where I just have a couch table ( deeeeep ).
And well, a wheel is BIG und uncomfortable - I dont want to have that huge black brick in my living room.

Greetings.

i loved using the X and the square in gt4.. i cant STAND the L/R triggers on the ps3. they're hard to press firmly, and i end up being not precise with it, and its an uncomfortable position for my hands

1) I hate using triggers for racing games. I prefer the sticks for both steering and throttle/brake control.
2) GT4 lets you assign custom control setups (as far as I can remember, all the games do...), so I doubt they'll leave the feature out of GT5.

Pads suck. Have fun figuring the triggers out. I hope PD solves the problem as it sounds silly you get full throttle without full pressure on the triggers. It will probably be fixed before gt5 comes out. Untill then buy a damn wheel, put it on a damn table, and throw the damn controller out the window (ehh untill you want to play a non-racing game)
Your welcome.

Sincerely,
your favorite condiscending buddy

I just don't wanna use a wheel. I have nothing to attach the wheel to and i don't like it.

No problem, you don't have some wood and a saw laying around? You're a man right? Steel and welder? Make something. Last time I brought my wheel to my friends there was no table that was the right height so we made a stand out of wood. Took 15 minutes.
Hell you can goto home depot and have them cut the 2x4's for you. All you need is a hammer and nails.

Painting it is key though if you don't want it to look really bad.
💡
I just though about making a full "booth" out of wood for my house. The idea of it being fully enclosed and full of speakers for accoustics... The bass would be that much louder. mmmmmmmm
We'll see.

I don't blame you for not wanting a big ugly thing around your house just for a steering wheel that takes forever to setup. Its only for the overly obsessed. It is a must for me. When I'm all high I need a wheel in my hand. :dunce:

They have some pretty compact wheel setups in the Cockpit section. You can stow them away if space is a problem.

Wheels all the way!!

(But I do agree the pad controls could be better).

-> I'm sorry, I'm more old school. I use the D-pad to turn and X for gas, I can do 'heel-n-toe' that way. :)

GT has had 100% customizable pad configurations since the original. Does Prologue somehow not have it? Even the demo had fully-customizable configs...

I've been using the same setup since GT1. Right stick gas/brake, left stick steer, shifters on L1/R1.

Old-fashioned me. I have a Driving Force Pro, but I'm still fairly happy with a gamepad for when I don't want to bring out the wheel. What steering wheels and stuff are for are to better enjoy the experience. Just don't tell me that having a steering wheel should be required. It's like the ones who say that multiplayer and online play is a requirement or is primary. It's not often times. It's just that (and I know I'm going to get creamed by you naysayers, so fire away when you're done reading this post. Not my first rodeo...) not everyone has the money or space for a steering wheel. I have a lot of stuff in my room and can be thankful to play GT4 without having to use the pedals. And good luck setting up a kiosk made specially for GT5 knowing there are little kids that will bang up the controllers at Wal-Mart. Most people use gamepads. I'm an old-school kind of guy, so I'm opposed to "get rid of gamepads completely" in racing games. Just because you prefer a steering wheel over a standard gamepad doesn't mean you should boycott gamepads for racing games.

Don't forget probably only 1 or 2% of all people playing GT use a wheel. This forum makes up a very very small fraction of over-obsessed fans. The sixaxis is undoubtedly the number one mode of input, and boycotting wouldn't lead anywhere. :) You are very correct that a wheel simply intensifies the experience. Fools your body that much more to feeling "there". Certainly not everyone has money to blow and space to waste.

There is one major thing completely missing, too...

You can't configure the controller of player2 in splitscreen! :guilty:

I just read the facts about the next update in august...and miss one major thing again.

Please PD, let the players configure the sensivity of the controller! ( throttle-, brake-, steering-sensivity / deadzones )

To be fair, its not really PD's fault. Deadzones CAN NOT be fixed by PD, thats a problem with the controller itself.

As for the other stuff such as sensitivity, there is only so much they can do. If you have the trigger held at 85%, but the controller is sending a signal to the PS3 saying its at 100% then there's nothing any piece of software from PD can do to fix that.

That's true, but a lower sensivity would help a lot.
The steering-sensivity ( for example ) is MUCH to high.

Ummm..., I played NFSC for the PS3 with a sixaxis and had absolutely no problems to apply throttle, brake and steering inputs at any level( e.g. 10%, 20%, ... 55%, ... 90% ... 99%, 100%). What was essential to achieve good laptimes btw.
So how is that not a software related problem with GT5P ???
The controls need to be fixed by PD and nobody else , even EA could provide proper inputs... EA!

And no, i dont need someone tell me Carbon is the sucks( i know that), i only want some proper support for the sixaxis / ds3 ( like it used to be on previous GT games!!!)

Well the deadzones are NOT a software problem, they have been a problem since the original Dual Shock, although with the SixAxis/Dual Shock 3 they have been significantly reduced. At the end of the day tho, they do exist, and they are hardware related, not software related.

Note that I say "there is only so much PD can do", and not that they cant do anything at all?!

Also note that I said IF you have the trigger held at 85% and the controller is sending a signal saying its at 100% then thats not a fault with PD either.

However if you have it held at 85%, and the controller sends a signal saying its at 85% then GT gives you 100% that is a problem with the game.

Next time please read what I wrote carefully before posting.

Well, i didn't want to offend you, sorry if i did.
Only wanted to point out that the dodgy controller support is completely PDs fault. As for deadzones I didn't ever notice them on Carbon, i only noticed that i found it extremely cool it was possible to apply any throttle, brake inputs that you wanted.👍 If there were any deadzones, they must have been very small whichs a good thing, too imo.
I used R2 and L2 buttons for brakes and gas btw. Jus driving around with e.g 3km/h was so much fun, because it created the feeling you actually drive a car. Tried that with GT5P? I did... big letdown

I've never had an issue with the buttons when playing GT. When I played GT games on the PS1 I used the right analogue stick for acceleration and braking, but ever since the buttons have been pressure sensitive I've used them.

Obnviously I don't get the same control you would with a wheel and pedals, but I don't think I could get used to setting up the trigger buttons for it. My button configuration is basically identical to the very first time I played GT.

I dont use the trigger buttons for GT aswell, but I think theres a huge difference in button sensitivity between GT3/4 and GT5P ... and i dont know why, but it has to be something with the code since the sensitivity for other games ( e.g NFS) are basically much like they used to be in GT3/4 .
If you don't feel that difference( hardly can believe but ok), so good for you... still bad for me and others.
I don't think using wheels should give an advantage in control although it seems it does. I understand a wheel can be more immersive and fun, but everything that gives actually an advantage over the DS36AXIS is some sort of cheating somehow ... but that's another story ;)
