Whats this?
Did it also happen to some of you:

I raced at Fuji (online) and after the race (Which i ended in first) my name was NOT in the results list !
Instead there was the name (PSN-ID) OFFLINE in first place and my name wasnt shown at all !!

I know there is a player (ID) already mentioned in these forums and also this player joined the race... but.. what.. ? Bug ?

Another thing:
It hapened to me two or three times that in the results list after an online-race there werent the PP (Points) displayed on the right hand side of the players (as usual) - but the individual timings of the players such as:
Playername 05:25.455
Playername 05:27.254
Playername 05:34.985
.....

Funny isnt it ?

Also for the "Rubberband" (Advantage/Disadvantage) effect i did a research:
It is there !

I raced 10 times (!) on one track (Fuji) with always the same car and also the same settings.
I always was in first or second spot during the races and finished 8 of them in first.
I managed to do all laps in times of 1.48 (low) and 1.51 (medium).

I then did race no.11 and let the pack go off from the start-line and waited for about 15 seconds and started last.

So now what ?
My very first lap was a 1.45 (low) !!!!! I didnt have any slipstreams !!
(And also all my other laps when i was far behind were 1.45s or 1.46s)

So its approved that theres "something going on" depending on the distance to the leader and/or the time behind the leader ![/U]

I clearly noticed also on my 1.45 laps (when behind the pack) that the rev-limiter hit the redline much earlier than before when i was in the lead !
So there must be a difference in power.... (though its relative if its a power-increase to the tail-enders or a power-decrease to the leaders)

After this observation i have to say: Thats not good and i dont like it at all !

I have been displayed as "OFFLINE" before. It happened to me after a slight error where I was signed out of the PSN, and had to sign in again during the game. In the next race I was called OFFLINE. I'm assuming it's a bug related in some way to this activity.

It's happened to me as well. It seems that when the system is matching players and you get an error. It then completes the search again and when you race you are OFFLINE.

I have noticed this too. When I get a large lead over the pack my car just does not want to respond when I put my foot down. Its strange because before specII I was sure they were reducing tyre grip, not power.

Someone really needs to get the message across to PD, catchup logic is very bad. Very, very bad.

We should make a petition for this boost problem,

The GREATEST MISTAKE ever of the PD team!!!

How is this reality...

I strongly agree and WON'T go online til it's fixed...

Whatever man, you'll be only missing some great races. If you're faster, and someone gets to your back because of boost - whatever again - he can't pass you if you're better driver. :)

I'm really being put off buying GT5P (and a PS3) after reading threads like this. I hope PD do something to resolve this "feature", so that competent drivers are not penalised for being better. I sympathise with people who don't like any kind of "boost" to slower/worse drivers. Just practise more, that's all they did to get where they are now.

I'm not sure I'd go as far to say that this is the worst thing PD have ever done, but it's not gone well it would seem. At least they tried something. What we really want is some kind of ranking system whereby you know how good the other racers are.

Let's see what PD do in their next patch. Fingers crossed.

I think a "boost" to slower cars has its place, but it should be a selectable feture not a default one. I defanetly dont like slowing the faster cars, help the slow guys dont hurt the fast ones. Some one said before it felt like they removed tire grip, but now it seams like power? If they insist on haveing this there id much rather see them pull power than grip. I had it happen to me in other racing games where that kicked in and I went sailing off the corner cause I got to far ahead.

Damn, and there's me thinking some guy was called OFFLINE! :sly:

At the beginnig of the race (where the players names show up) there was already a name called OFFLINE who seemed joining the race.

So i dont know if this ID really exists or not...

The Boost:
Tonight ill try out if its a boost to the slower cars or a slowdown to the faster ones. I simply try to replicate my really constant laptimes with this car on that track witin an online time-trial (no traffic involving..).

If i can do 1.45s it is "slowing down the faster ones"
If i do 1.48s it is a "Boost to the tail-enders".

I also must say that while driving far behind (1.45s) -as mentioned above- the car felt much better (controllable) for any reason...

I wouldn't say that to Mustang245, he is a diehard GT fan. He plays no other racing games on no other consoles. He loves GT, so if he is unhappy with this feature it truly sucks to have it be default.

So if I was running in first then the "boost/handicap" kicked in and second (same car as me) place caught me I would have to block him in order for him not to pass. Blocking is not part of being a better driver Amar. If we are running the same cars and I'm down on power to him, as long as we are similar skilled he can easily overtake on a straight.

Main point is that GT5P has a horrible online racing experience right now. Now if it came out ten years ago it would be acceptable, but with so many others doing the online soooo much better you can't say GT5P doesnt suck at it.

I noticed a strange occurrence in an online race, thought I'd post it here. It was at Daytona Oval, and before the race even started, 1 player in front of me on the grid spun out and ended up 30m in-field, and another guy miraculously started a good 200m ahead of everyone else.

All the fun of the fair! :sly:

I was racing Fuji last night, and whilst racing down the main straight, doing close to 160mph in my tuned Corvette, I was stopped dead by a car appearing out of thin air in front of m!. When I mean stopped dead, I mean 'STOPPED DEAD'! no skidding, no sliding, no follow through, just plain stop, from 160mph to 0mph (and no revs) in 0.000000cm!

Wierd isn't it, I think I seen a car appear out of thin air, but luckily didn't hit him.

What event type was it?? Expert might have it removed. I can sort of understand beginners having it.

It was a 650PP Pro Event (Fuji F).

My further research (Boost / Handicap) shows the following:
(Always same car, same track, same settings)

I can go 1.45s on Fuji time-trial 650PP event online..
Remember: No traffic - just me

I can go 1.45s in Fuji race event 650PP when i am far behind the leader..

I CAN GO ONLY 1.48s WHEN I AM IN THE LEAD !!

So its not a boost ! Its a handicap to the leader(s) !

Thats.. arrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Handicap? The real driving simulator? thats juxta positioning right, a contradiction in terms?

PD needs to remove this, last time i looked there is not a single race series in the real world that electronically or otherwise handicaps a leader, if they did no real racing driver would want any part of it.

I went online to see what is what (until now i've just been messing with the TT in cars that cant rail ride) and was not surprised to see that online racing is a joke around rail riding tracks. No matter how well you keep to racing line and no matter how well you drive, the rail banger/rammer/brake tester will win 9 times out of ten. One guy was on and even though he couldnt race to save his life he still won because of rail riding and dirty tricks.

Will say though that the time he brake tested me and I managed to duck out and round him to win just before the line was great and made me smile :)

Common PD, the bulk of your sales are die hard racers, imagine telling Lewis or Kimi that next years car would drop 200bhp every time they got into the lead....

haha

I noticed sometimes online my car will lag and the steering wheel will twich real crazy for about a second

I know there is lag artifacts and all but I was on the Superspeedway and coming on the back straight I'm side by side with this guy, all of a sudden his car vanishes and materializes at the other end of the straight, like intact and still going...:eek:

BTCC has weight bias's put into the championship leaders. Or did anyway, i think it was unfair in BTCC as it is in GT5P, but it has been done was my point.

If you're letting little thing like this put you off from getting GT5P, then you're selling yourself short. I rarely race online, yet after almost 3 months of owning this game (and almost daily usage), this game still blows me away with what it does well: as a driving simulator. Provided you own a good steering wheel and you're interest is not solely to race, then there's plenty of enjoyment to be had.

ok have to put this out there. i really dont mind the boost system at all. i cant belive theres some people out there who say that they wont play online at all because of this. why? because you have to work harder? someone else pointed out that its unfair for the good drivers the bad drivers should just practice more. did you ever stop to think that there are some people who just play it when they have the chance because they have work and other things so they only play it casually. so these people should never be allowed the chance at ever winning a race online because he dosnt put the same amount of time into the game as you do? another person pointed out that in actual racing the good drivers DO get penalized for being to good. they get weight added to the car. i agree with his point of view just think of it as you having a weight penalty like in the ALMS or BTCC. i agree with what kazunori has done. hes created a game that a person can pick up and play when he has a chance and do moderately well where he wont get discouraged and never pick the game up again and made it rewarding for the person who has way to much time at hand and just plays this game all the time. you people forget this game was made by a Japaneses man. the Japanese work alot more then Americans do and have less free time on there hands. now quit being so childish over a game.

just a few things for you guys to think about.

I don't like artificially flavored fun/disputed/close races because of the boost... WTF is that, if you spin, you loose. If you are slow, you loose... But no, with boost on you can still win the race "and have fun".

So what IF they let us choose if we want boost on or off like in previous GTs, GT4 to be precise?

Is that that hard to do? They've done it before, so why change now?

No moral issues will be involved :dunce:

BTW, have you seen another game with "boost" on? A shooter maybe? So those bad shooter players like me can still have a chance to win against all those spree killers out there.

As with everything else, make all "aids" optional so that we can choose what WE want enabled. Need extra help, fine. And at the same time cater for all hardcore fans. That way you can make the game accessible for all type of players.

Burnout has more boost for last place and hardly any for first. Motorstorm, does GRiD have catch up to? i seem to recall seeing it as an option on the demo. It makes for close racing, and means if you get hit by a punter, hope is not lost. I hope it is optional, but it's not so bad really. (i know i said all arcade style racers, feel free to tear my post up)
