:: Daytona Road Course ::

Race Details:
  • Mode: Arcade
    [*]Physics: Professional
    [*]Track:Daytona Road Course
    [*]Make: USA > Dodge
    [*]Model: Dodge Viper GTS '02
    [*]Drive Train: FR

Vehicle Specifics:
  • Driving Aids: Optional
  • Transmission: Optional
  • Tyre Type: S2/S2
  • In-Race RA Functions: Optional (if available)

Race Specifics:

  • Yellow Rumbles are part of the track
  • Where there are white and yellow lines placed along the edge of the track, this determines the boundary of the track. There are however some areas where this is not the case, therefore, please use common sense to determine the boundary in these areas. However, if common sense fails then ask in the discussion thread. The excuse that you didn't know is not good enough at this level of competition.
  • G25 Clutch is prohibited

Standard Clean OLR Rules:
  • 2 wheels on (or vertically in line with (when airborne)) the track at all times
  • rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • run-off areas are not part of the track
  • no contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • if you're not 100% sure that your lap is clean, then consider it dirty
  • no hybrids
  • no cheating of any kind
  • nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • save your ghost replay

Lap Time Submission:

Why we use GMT:
GMT is World Time and the basis of every world time zone which sets the time of day and is at the centre of the time zone map. GMT sets current time or official time around the globe. Most time changes are measured by GMT. Although GMT has been replaced by atomic time (UTC) it is still widely regarded as the correct time for every international time zone.

Replay Submission & Verification:

All drivers must save their replay and keep it at least two weeks after the deadline of this race.

  • all drivers are required to submit their replay upon submission of their lap time (before the deadline)
  • only point scoring submissions and a select number of random submissions will need to be verified
  • It is the responsibility of all drivers & teams to carry out replay verification, and the outcome of the verification posted in the relevant results thread
  • any replays not verified within seven days after submission will be considered clean
  • GTP Race Admins replay verification decisions are final

Stewards Comments:

Please note; You still have a full week to improve your time for Race 04. (Deadline 01/12/08)

On behalf of baxnimis, GTRP and the GTP OLR Team, I wish you all luck and hope you enjoy Race 05 .

Great stuff Jerry, looking forward to this one much more than the Lotus at London. Expecting to see the same culprits at the top of the times, we'll definitely miss Spyrrari and Duratec. Here's to another quality event 👍

All the best
Maz

:(:(:(:(.............

(still hoping to get it fixed soon)
great work Sphinx:tup::sly:

spyrrari.

ahh, this will be easy after the London escapade:tup:( :scared: )

Sphinx gets bonus points for efficiency, nice re-use of the photos from the GTP Registry preview event. Seeing that field of AI cars makes my stomach roll, I never wanted to see that crew again!

Excellent car and track selection, too bad I wont have time for this until next week. Good luck everyone.

nice combo, seems as though u need to break 3 km back to safely take the first corner! but other than that, the car is really great, time 1'55.324, few tenths left

Great ghost for me as usual Dan 👍

As you said, I can see a 1.54 for you on this fun combo :sly:

Just did 5 laps to try and 1.56.544 to start ;)

This one's pretty tough to get the high speed braking points right without sliding all over the place! not for me sorry .. got an average save and I'm happy to leave it there and head back to COD World at War until the week 6 combo

Good luck to all 👍

Come on Ron, with no Duratec and Spyrrari this week the team needs you 👍 Just put in one of those classic Mr_P performances and sort it out :D

It's not like the team can rely on me for forum points is it haha...

All the best
Maz

ran another session with intentions to improve, and i did, by 4 tenths, dipping into the .9xx's. Really tough to nail the last section on a good T2 split, thankfully, i got one just right:D cheers

Incredible time Dan, talk about benchmark!

How long do you spend on one particular session when a) Setting the first time b) running further improvement sessions, if you don't mind me asking?

Many thanks in advance, and continued awe.

I can see where you are coming from mate but I have had a poor result in every event since this competition started .. in all fairness I am crap on S2 tyres ( especially on cars like this viper ) and they simply don't interest me enough to run more than 1 or 2 sessions with the high error rate ( turn 1 under braking :yuck: )
Some guys like that slip slidey fighting with the wheel to keep the car straight experience whereas I don't .. gimme racing tyres anyday 👍

Also world at war is much more fun at the moment and a great way to let out all my frustration at not being the racer I used to be :indiff: I only like racing when I'm doing well and when I'm doing crap I just lose interest! simple as that :guilty:
pretty much sums up me and GT5P :p

Go team GTP 👍

Varies mate, sometimes I arrive at a good time early, say within the hour, wheras take this combo for example, i drove for over 2 hours (more than when it says 'finished recording replay') which is rare, I generally never do any good laps after 2 hours of driving as you get used to 'failing'. First warm up session generally an hour, working out what is needed to achieve the limit in terms of speed/line. cheers:tup:

Go team GTP 👍

I completely understand what you're saying, and although on the surface it may look like a whinge and sour grapes, I know it's not the case because you clearly have respect for the guys going faster/fastest.

You're regularly top 20, and considering you don't even LIKE S2 tyres and you're capable of spanking those of us who do, says you're doing pretty damn well right? 👍

I get this feeling a lot as well, I especially felt that way during the Evora hotlap competition. I was doing great in the races, there wasn't a driver I couldn't occasionally beat in the races with the exact same equipment, but I just couldn't cut it in that particular contest. And it got to me, to the point where I started messing about with other games more than GT5:P. A few proper races later and some fun at close battles in the race format renewed my interest.

I guess my point is that if you genuinely don't get much joy out of it, don't let it kill your interest in the game. There's an event update on Thursday so fingers crossed for another good PP event with R-tyres as an option for those of us who love them.

Just left for me to say thanks for the great laps you've done for GTP, I reckon you've been kicking ass :tup

Thanks for the reply Dan, just a couple more questions: Do you start out pushing the limits everywhere, and then slowly bringing those limits back until you're on the edge...or do you start calm then build up towards the limits until you overstep them? Also, how quickly do you obtain the acceptable limit for a particular car/track combo?

All the best and thanks again
Maz

Thanks for the kind comments Maz and be assured you have it right when you say it might look like sour grapes but is not 👍 I have total respect for the effort most of the drivers put into these events and even though I can't compete with the top runners it doesn't mean they get any less admiration at the ability they have and the wicked laptimes they produce

Some day in the very distant future when GT5 is released with more tracks and a bit of rally in the mix! I hope to be back in with a shot here and there ... the old P aint out to pasture just yet :sly: he's just picky :p

Cheers Maz ;)

Love this cicuit just dont like the car.

Never used it before and certainly wont be after this event.

Looks awful, sounds awful, not the best to drive. Anyway ...

1'56'6xx with errors here and there.

next time we'll swap OK. You create the races and I'll do the easy bit by sitting in front of my PC and slate the crap out of it.

Anyway...

Well i start out pretty safe, not trying to hit any walls, or attempt wild drifts, just trying to establish braking points and what not, then slowly try and work out how fast each corner can be taken safely(i use km/h), eventually once u have established or gained the knowledge of the approximate limit (around half an hour before i am within .5 or so of the limit) then it just comes down to trying to nail a complete lap, generally that requires at least 2 sessions. I probably watch the speedo more than i watch whats in front of me, its a habit that is quite useful in gran turismo:tup:

Hey i said i loved the circuit!!

Hardly slating the crap, comments on the car really shouldent be taken personally by you. You arrange and prepare these events which I appreciate, but not all vehicles or courses are to everyone's liking.

So next time if i feel maybe a course or car isnt to my taste ill keep stumm

Aha,

That's a pretty logical approach to it. Shame my logical thinking dissappears as soon as the intro movie starts from GT5P :dopey:
Never knew that London is my kind of track, big doubt if i can do better on DRT.
But nevertheless , will try the easy first approach and try to get under 2'.
If it works for the top dog, maybe it works for me as well

Bryan

Ive only just seen this, love the Viper and Daytona road, looking foward to running this one. I need to revisit the 111R @ London first. 👍

i do it the same way, always looking on the speedo :D

for shifting and for corner speed ;)

improved my time to a handy 1'54.897;) slashing a further .050 off my previous best, I reckon a .7xx time is feasable, but nothing more than that I don't think.

Holl01, thanks for answering Maz's questions. It's good to read some constructive advice. I haven't dared look at any of your replays, I know I can't get near them with or without a pad.

I, like Mr P. seam to be slowing and, it takes me a while to put a satisfactory lap together ( last minute sometimes).

Maz, you pitched some great questions there 👍

Cheers Dan, nice of you to say so and yeah of course, thanks to holl01 for the feedback 👍

How are the sixaxis users doing on this one? I've managed a 1'57.606 after an hour, not to mention the extra practice I've had at DR thanks to the Star Wars event. I can see myself putting together a 1'57.0xx at this moment in time without hiccups, but the remaining 2 or so seconds left to the leaders escapes me.

The reason I asked about the sixaxis...I watched Ramon's fantastic current number 1 laptime and noticed on key 2nd gear exits he uses 75% throttle to balance the car, avoid time-wasting skidding and still keep up exit speed, and he carries that kind of speed all the way down the straights. I can hit 50% throttle on the sixaxis with ease but 75% is proving immensely difficult for me. I am using the shoulder buttons for throttle modulation but I find hitting 75% and maintaining it is a real challenge for me and I keep having to watch my throttle bar, thereby taking my eyes off other important things. Is it just as difficult to hit and maintain 75% throttle on the pedals? Is it just harder to nail that kind of modulation on the sixaxis because of the tiny travel on the shoulder buttons?

I'd love to hear what other sixaxis users are finding.

Can I also just say how impressed I am with GTP_DukeOfPendle and GTP_Wanna_B for being so high up the rankings currently at this race 👍 Incredible stuff guys.

All the best
Maz

Thanks Maz, me and Phil weve been doing battle with each other since round 2, we know we will never manage to score points for GTP in the team wars, but i like to think like me, GTP_DukeofPendle as improved as we seem to be getting a little better as the rounds progress, barring any mishaps we will continue to battle each other to the final round. I'm just happy to get in the top 100 on the GT5P leaderboards.

Off for some much needed rest.
Cheers JP
