Please do not complain about the position of a certain vehicle on the wall, there was already a given debate time for that. The members of GTP have voted and spoken with the level of coolness being determined by the majority.

In real life, having things askew and random is natural and cool because it denotes a dismissive, unconcerned way of life. Aligning things is nerdy and hopeless in real life.

In the virtual world, putting things at strange angles -as you have just done- is nothing more than a hopelessly patronizing attempt at capturing the X-treme Vibe.

It's completely idiotic, not to mention painful to look at and very labour-intensive to update. The older format wasn't necesarily perfect, but it was quite good, and everyone would be well-served if you just used the old format.

Capice?

Could I request a text version of the wall too? Some pictures are hard to make out exactly what they are.

There it's back the way it was.

Hmmmm... will look later, but I have an idea that we could rank each within each zone of "cool" and "uncool" depending on the proportion of the votes.

I don't know if we are going to change the way the votes are counted. Basically if the majority says uncool then the car is uncool and nothing more or less.

Its fine as it is, no need to make a simple concept complicated. That would be uncool :p

Needless complication is never uncool. Rube Goldberg Rules. That's the real reason Mythbusters is such a great show... it's not the myths... it's the contraptions!

I think you should headline the categories with:

I'm noticing a theme... if it's remotely practical, it's uncool.

Ya I don't really understand the bases of something being cool to be honest. I don't really find supercars all that cool for the most part but hey majority rules.

I think it should be someone's mission to find a cool, practical car and nominate it.

The Volvo 850 estate was the first Volvo to be dubbed as a cool car - car journos said it handled pretty well too.

Well whats cool about practicality? The car needs something else on top of that to make it cool, and most practical cars don't have much to be worth a second look.

Can you honestly imagine someone detailing how much rear leg room, and how bigger their cars boot is in relation to other cars, as a way of proving how cool there car is? To put it in simple terms, whats cooler, mpg or mph?

Although there are plenty of cool practical cars around, you can see why a majority will vote for something made to be fast/stylish over something to be practical/economical.

Well I realise it's objective, but I know for sure a lot of people think the Volvo 240 GL is intensely cool.

Volvo-240-GL-Wagon-resized.jpg

But consider why that is. It's practical and safe, no doubt. But judge it by any other yardstick and it's horrific.

Cars like this, from what I understand, are cool because they don't need to be. It's like the Napoleon Dynamite effect. Or Geek Chic, for that matter.

The Supercars we've discussed are more often than not considered to be cool because they look good, go fast, or both. It appeals to the right hemisphere of the brain which values emotional impact and social appeal. The part that wants to be seen in a status symbol, not a car. But what if we judged "cool" based on logic and practicality (which we are capable of doing)? That's the left hemisphere's forte, and would completely turn the GTP cool wall on it's head.

The Volvo is cool because it was involved in touring car racing ;) I imagine that would have a lot to with it anyway.

Well I realise it's objective, but I know for sure a lot of people think the Volvo 240 GL is intensely cool.

It's cool because it doesn't try to be cool, it's raw simplicity, but I still think it would struggle to make it into the cool section on a poll. I would vote it cool, but I'm not explaining what I think makes a car cool in my opinion, but what makes a car cool in alot of other peoples opinion.

I think practical cars are plenty cool as long as they don't try to hard like say the Mini Clubman, which is clearly trying to be cool and it just fails. Same goes for the Hyundai Genesis, it looks like it's trying to be like every other car, which makes it uncool. There are always exceptions to rules, because cool isn't just speed and looks, but practicality isn't what makes the Volvo cool I think.

I'd be surprised, I think most people here think cool = performance although the latest 9ff thread might change that.

Well that 9ff doesn't have great performance except for top speed statistics....

I think the 9ff still might turn around and make it into cool based on the figures it has. I would nominate the Veyron in the hope that it would be uncool because I hate it with a burning passion, but I sense it would be cool or ice cold.

You're asking a video game forum full of 13 year olds... wait... now they're all at least 18 by now... what defines cool, and they're invariably going to vote for the fastest, flashiest pieces of metal out there...

We've already had three practical cars sneak into subzero. Okay... two maybe practical ones and one dinosaur... no... scratch that... one dinosaur, one tinny little sardine can and one practical Golf... well... considering the Golf is a sardine can, too...

A practical car will need character to win a subzero. The 850 T5R might do it... but I don't know if enough people know what it is... the one immensely practical car I had hopes of seeing subzero, the Fit, never even made it to cool (you damn Philistines! I bet half of you have never even driven one! Let alone sideways! (I've changed my mind about the second generation... yes, ma, it can hoon...))

The Mini Clubman made seriously uncool not because it's practical. But because it's stupid. You sacrifice the iconic design of the new Mini (yes, I think the design can stand on its own, despite its overt retro-ness) for extra luggage space. That's missing the point of why you'd buy the car in the first place... and it still doesn't make it as practical as, say... buying a Honda Fit... which is not seriously uncool... just moderately so, according to our panel of judges.

Isn't that the one that they had the ad of the Countach pulling a trailer? Either way, the 850 was the FWD one, so it can't be as cool as the 240. Its like a law.

I think it can:
