For the love of me I don't know how to catch first! I am in 2nd by the end of lap 2 and 1st plays just pulls a gap on me. I've got full aero kit suspension tranny and wheels I have tried tweaking the setting which helps bit no way to catch first.

i done nothing to the aero of my car its just bout being perfect i think u could try lowering the front of the focus to give it beta handling into the corners so it wont understeer so badly i just won this race on my ds3 controller not a wheel it was hard took me bout 5 trys to get it use the drafts of other cars and try not to stuff up ur lap times should be in the 1.43s or beta in the race i won hey were all 1.43 except the 4th lap was a 1.41 i won by just over a second hope this helps

It's seems the car just doesn't have the power, I know I am at the limit with the car as my setting so I must be missing something.

i didnt brake at the early stages of the corners i braked when it said it needed to b in 2nd not wen it needed to b in 4th and brake hard and accelerate early use the kerbs and also the 2nd hairy corner thats the left hander then strait into the rite brake for the left then floor it thru the rite if u can get 1.42s every lap or even a 1.41 u should b able to do it

Well I am using a wheel best I can manage is 1:47 the tires just heat up on the rakes and it won't turn, I'm missing something, if you could tell me your exact setting that would be great

i done nothing to the settings added trans flywheel etc etc couldnt do light weight or n e thing added an exhaust i think just drove it hard if u can get 1.43s and lower ull do it

Just turned on skid recovery and that made that race a ****ing joke. Easily in 1st with a laP to spare. That's BS lol

Is that all you did or did you tune it in any way? My focus appears to be a pile of arse and understeer and its the worst thing in the world to drive

Indeed, I struggled alot with this race and tried to mess with suspension and always got 2nd place. I lapped around 1´43's and at the end was about 5 seconds behind. Then turned on skid recovery and bye bye wheelspin and understeer. I was instantly 2 seconds faster per lap and golded this on first try.

I have gold in the 1st batch of the seasonal races, but I can't figure out the focus race. All mods are installed, which are allowed, even the aero parts. I have skid recovery on and I can't run lap times below 1:45.

Does somebody have an advice for tunning settings or how to figure out where am I losing 3-4 seconds per lap?

I found that having all aids off except skid recovery force and abs at 1 helped more than tuning my car.

Just incase this is what I used (i don't know if they actually helped, tuned from apex book pg 165), I believe I took 1st place somewhere on the 4th lap....

ride height adjustment: front(-10), Rear(25)
spring rate: front (12.5), rear (6.7)
dampers(extension): front (7), rear (3)
dampers(compression) front (3), rear (4)
anti-roll bars: front (4), rear(4)

camber angle: both 0
toe angle: front(0), rear(0.50)

I thought you were kidding, but you are right this is easy with skid recovery on. Tips:

- custom tranny
- lower front suspension
- learn the circuit. Seriously ! you can lose a lot of time by; eg using kerbs properly and picking the best line through the chicane.

I just placed 2nd, 5 seconds behind 1st in stock, presumably that means with a bit of tuning 1st should be easy?

I had full aero kit, TS on the FC tranny down to 130 MPH and I lowered the body of the car to -5 in both locations (F/R). I had a total time of 8:34.7xx with my slowest time of ~1.43.6xx. The key is not in the straights but into the slow corners. The most important corner to nail is the one following the 2nd straight as you should ignore the gear indicator and brake pretty much when it goes down to 2 on the indicator. I noticed significant gain of track time at this corner. As others suggested, use Skid Recovery because it will stabilize the car.

That is insane, I was struggling like a mofo to get this one done. I'd tuned my car to the max & thought I had my gears & brakes as good as I could get them but there was no way I was going to catch that RS.

As soon as I checked here & saw that I needed to have skid recovery turned on I won at my first attempt.

Thanks man. Changing top speed down to 130 made the difference between 5 seconds behind and 5 seconds in front.

Has anyone here ever actually got gold with a DS3 on any of these events? I've tried everything on both the Mini and the Focus challenges and can only get 2nd in both. I'm miles away from 1st place in the Focus race and in the Mini race I keep losing by a split second. They really need to turn the difficulty down for such basic races, it's more frustrating than it is fun. They need to realise that not everyone can put hours into this game. We're not all as sad as Kaz and his cronies.

Yup. I have only ever used a controller with all the GT series, and I am not the only one to have done so.

Likewise I have only ever used a controller for the whole series.

Moglet, I have managed gold on all of the first batch of bonus and so far the Mini, Focus and Nascar of the second batch. I'm finding them extremely difficult to do, it seems to just be a case of battering away time after time finding odd little bits of the track where you can maybe leave it a gear higher than the indicator tells you or take a slightly different line/cut over the kerbs or whatever just to gain the odd little fractions of a second here and there to drag the laptimes down.

That said I am sure I have times I don't really drive any differently and suddenly the lap times drop for no apparent reason.

Today i won the Mini + Ford Focus challange, they were like hell. I think I tried 20 million times to do the Focus race and all the time failed, but then you find the right tuning and suddenly the laptimes melt away like ice in the sahara.

First lap: 1:43:4**
Second: 1:43:9** (I don't know why this lap was half a second slower, I had the feeling it was much faster)
Third + Fourth: 1.42:8**
Fifth: 1.43:6**

As I said above, i started the focus challenge (the lap times are from this challenge) at about 10 pm and just finished it, 2:19 am.

It was damn hard but one of the best races I had so far in this game.

Yup I'm using DS3, got gold on Mini and Ford. Uploading video for ford right now, but mini video is on my channel with tuning.

Gold in the Focus event, nice challange I have to say, my best lap was low 1.41. Pace around 1.42.5 get first at 4th lap. Consistency is everything here, If you understand how to breake late in those tight corners your lap times will benefit. Use an high break bias, mine was 8/6.

Gotta say that to all whom are new to GT5 or racing games in general, either learn to tune a bit or find people who can either through the Tuning section here or through other channels.

The major problem people have here is the turning ability of the car, which is easily solved by tuning the LSD to allow more turning under acceleration.

My 1st lap is what is losing me this event

lap 1 - 1.45.0

lap 2 - 143.9

lap 3 -142.6

lap 4 - 1.43.5

lap 5 - 1.44.5

Skid force on

It's all about getting consistently fast laps. I hit the wall twice in that race :P

Just finished it with no aids except ABS. I think people don't enjoy a challenge these days, and then complain about the lack of events after flying through them using easy mode.
I found I was actually quicker without LSD, car might not be powerful enough to make the most of it. You have to be smooth through the corners, if your tyres are going red you are pushing too hard.

Thanks... will give your settings a shot. I was running my car way too stiff.
Yes, I will try this too, thanks J.D. :)
I have a feeling I was running mine way too stiff as well.....:guilty:
