...to be able to use a Negcon controller in GT5. Does anyone remember that controller? Namco produced it and I used it with the original GT and GT2 and loved it so much. It trully was a controller. The car would do precisely what I asked of it and then some. The feeling was just sublime. I like the DS3 fine enough. It gets the job done but it doesn't provide the same level of fine control that was available with the Negcon. I know wheels are good - I went through two DFP's driving GTR and Live For Speed on the PC - but they demand a certain commitment which doesn't really fit into a mature man's domestic situation. If I had a Negcon I could just throw it in a drawer when the in-laws visit and I'd look normal.

I guess it's not going to happen but if it did...well, I'd be a very happy man.

Do you care o explain, how that doesn't fit?

If you still have the Negcon controller maybe This wil work, not sure but it might..

I remember that too, whilst I never liked Ridge Racer the controller always looked intriguing. Would love to know if it works with an adaptor, I guess if the twist action mirrors the analog stick it should, but does it have analog buttons/triggers too? That would be pretty important.

Nice finds guys but it's not going to work. This will deal with the physical connection but the Negcon needs to be set-up in-game to work properly. It needs calibration, much like a wheel does. Unless one of the wheel settings can be botched to simulate the Negcon I don't think it'll happen.

It had two analogue buttons on the front face, roughly where the buttons are on a DS3. These were ideal when used as the accelerator/brake as it was possible to "rock" your thumb between the two actions. This allowed a degree of power and brake at the same time, a bit like heel and toeing in real life does.

If it worked would a Jogcon be feasable too?

If it worked with one it would work with the other but I never got on with the Jogcon. It required such an odd holding position that was counter-intuitive. The principle's the same though.

I just wish they would build an RC-style wheel controller for the PS3. Anything would be more accurate than a stick.

And yes, some of us just can't afford to have a gigantic steering rig lying around the house... either in monetary or marital terms... :D

Be great if it were something like this:

I always wanted a Negcon. Never got one or tried one.

I love the ridge racer series also, since the first one to the current one (7, on the PS3.)

Am I the only person to steer using the d-pad still? :nervous:

The "killer app" for the Negcon was Wipeout. Such precision in the turns, and you really felt a part of the action too.

The design was great because it caused an inertial shift between your shoulders which did indeed make you feel more immersed into the game.

Wish more hacks could be found online to make it useable with present day consoles.

As far as the HKS...haven't the slightest where you'd find it in the UK, I'm still trying to find it in the states.

I have that. Got it for christmas. Tis quite good too!. Got it from Gamezap but last I heard, they were out of stock

I've found it! £45 is a lot of money for something that I'll use with one game but hey, I can at least justify this to my wife in place of a wheel! I think I'll take the plunge when my wages come in at the end of the month.

That would be interesting. I have the wheel but I can defiantly relate to the "inconvenience" of setting it up and putting it away all the time.

nice. Post impressions after you've had some time with it.

Now if they switched the Analog Stick and the D-Pad, it would be perfect.
Too bad it isn't available here, the shipping from US is very expensive.

EDIT:@zorrofox: Where did you find it ?

The HKS does need getting used to. The thumbwheel is very sensitive. Took a lot of getting used to while driving a faster car like the FGT. The controllers for brake and accelerate are a little awkward at first. Feels a little alien. But then you notice how easy it is to "blend" them. There is a switch on the back to change your brake and gas to L2 and R2 which is pretty nifty as it can be done on the fly. The thumbstick is noticeably looser feeling and more sensitive than the one on the DS3.All in all I really like it. Itsonly bad point is that its wired..

I don't see how you are going to give anybody your testicle; it seems your wife already has both of yours.

There's a third party peripheral maker in the UK (at least i think they are UK) called Orb, and they do a wheel that your DS3 clips into, though it only works with the sixaxis motion sensor thing, so no good for GT5 but a nice idea. You just hold the wheel in the air and turn it, it costs about GBP10.00

Orb also make the best clip-on triggers too, way better quality than the Gioteck ones that are everywhere and all over eBay
