Since many people have been complaining about the prices of cars in GT5, and thanks to one guy's carlist that is almost complete...did you know that:

  • The total cost of all cars in the game is about 500 million credits?
  • While that seems expensive, you can buy about 670 of them with just 20 million?
  • The 50 most expensive cars are worth more than 300 million alone?

In my opinion, it's not that bad that you can't get all the cars instantly, and you have to choose wisely what you want in the beginning. Once you have progressed a bit in the game, it's really not that hard to get the car of your dreams. Just complete one set of Seasonal Events and you can buy almost any car.

What WILL be hard is -for people like me- to get every car in the game. Guess I'm going to drive a lot to get those couple of hundred mill' together...:sly:

why do you need 76 different versions of the miata?? i love the miata and the rx7 but one version of each generation is MORE THAN ENOUGH.

Yep, I'm trying for this, too. I kind of wish I'd decided this a while ago because now I feel like the cars I traded to get were cheating, though a lot of them were traded at a huge loss on my part (I traded a 2,000,000cr Veyron for a 300,000cr Evo Super Rally Car), so that makes up for it... Maybe.

This is interesting, though, I worked out that to buy the rest of the premiums I have left, I need roughly 110,000,000cr, thanks mainly to the three (well, two, after I've won the XJ13) classic Le Mans, Miura, two Ferrari F1 cars and such, and then I get to work on the standards. I hope those seasonal events keep on coming and stay de-restricted otherwise that's a whole load of Indy for me!

Yes, you can but most of the cars with 20 million, but that doesnt mean anythin because if you are going to tune them, you have to spend like 200 000 credits on each car alone, regardless of which car it is, and thats the really funny thing. Is it supposed to cost like 200 000 to tune a daihatsu mira, and 200 000 to tune a ferrari enzo? Prices in gt5 isnt realistic. Specially if you do online races, then tuning is very important, and you might have several cars of the same model with different tuning and stuff.

Just collecting cars for the sake of collecting is messed up, because i really want cars that is fun do drive and look good, and therfore the tuning and modding becomes much more important and hence expensive to me.

People complain because they supertune every car they get, and each car they tune can only work for one race. Instead of being logical and tuning cars only bought that they need and getting cars that are needed for multiple races. Also, if you save the cars you win, they could come in handy later on so you don't need to buy a car and waste the money for something that you had won bu sold.

I thought about something similar recently as well. You can buy a huge range of different cars with different tuning setups and whatnot for (relatively) low amounts of money.

When I reaches lvl35 in B-Spec, I had around 10 million credits, without grinding for credits. And without doing most of the seasonal events, either. And those really are fast money. With that alone you can st yourself up for a plethora of different races - it's just the multy million credit stuff like the LMP cars and some classic that are going to ask for some serious grinding for cash...

I have 7 GTR's R32,R33,R34, Mines, GTR07, GTR v spec, and GTR Vspec academy version. All designed for different tracks and regulations online.

Actually, I complain because GT Mode is a waste of my time more or less, and I need to buy just about every upgrade for every car to make sure I can enter races freely online and remain competitive.

At the OP: I don't understand how any of that proves that the cars aren't too expensive.

No. People complain because all of that stuff is a problem with GT5 when it wasn't a problem with any of the previous games in the series.

Compared to previous games in the GT series the cost of cars is quite expensive. However if you then say that you can buy about 90% or the cars for less than 98,000 which is the winnings from 1 short dull race then they are fair cheap. Its a shame you cant win and sell prize over and over again.

I agree...whilst it's relatively easy to build up say 5 million or so, that's when the grind really seems to set in. I'm looking at that 2J in the online dealership but I have no chance of raising another 7 million or so (I have about 7 million currently) before they change the line up.

That's not a complaint as such, as I will most likely get about 12 very cool premiums instead, but not sure I will ever have the patience to grind for the two Chapparals, the Miura and the P4, all of which I would like a lot. The Ford MkIV would be nice too...

The Seasonal Events have a pretty good pay out but still 1,000s, not 1,000,000s :irked:

That's ridiculous!

Now, I'm not complaining about the price of cars in the game. I don't really care, as most of the cars I enjoy playing with are relatively inexpensive.

I don't have any issue with the prices of cars. It means that less people are likely to have the same car as you. So photos are more unique, online races are amongst classes of car rather than same make/model races etc...

well it would have been the case if not for the save game/birthday exploits. Also with the difficulty dropped from the seasonal events, its become easier to grab a few million in a short time also.

I don't have any issue with the price of the cars nor the rewards you get from the races. I don't plan on beating this game within a month of owning it, the rate at which you can obtain cars means I will be hunting for cars well into the life of GT5.

I am pretty sure that I read somewhere that the GT5 currency (cr.) prices are based similarly on the Japanese Yen, so it can't be compared to U.S. Dollar values or Euros.

It can't be. For example: 20,000 yen is ~240 US dollars. If japan is giving out cars at that price I'll move their ASAP.

All look a good deal different too(Excluding the v spec and gtr), I consider those seperate cars, R33, R34, R32 etc (Different cars). Not Mazda rx7, Mazda Rx7 bathurst, etc (Same cars and models, just different editions or trims)
