I'm looking to see how many people, if any, would be interested in a Fantasy F1 league other than the one that's usually run here. I've been part of a league on Pure Fantasy F1 with the SPEED TV forum for a couple seasons and wanted to set a league of my own.

It's pretty simple. You have a budget that increases (or decreases) over the season and you set up a team of 2 main drivers, a 3rd driver, manager, chassis manufacturer, engine supplier, and one of two groups for the tire manufacturer. You get points during qualy and the race, along with bonus points for predicting correct qualy positions and fastest lap time. Each member could set up 2 teams.

If I can get enough interest, like 10 people minimum, I'll be happy to set everything up.

INFO for joining league:

Just head over to http://purefantasyf1.net/en/ and sign up. Once you're all set up, click the "join a league with a new team" part on your team page, build your team, click create, then choose Individual Private as league type, pick the GTPlanet league, put in icarus as the PW and you're set. If you have any questions just ask.

I'd be willing to join, a budget league would be fun along side my version.👍

I think Giles usually runs a fantasy league for the season. I remember him doing it in 2009, but I can't remember if he set one up for 2010.

He discontinued it, because he was busy. I don't think he will be reviving it.

I'm interested in the two leagues(Justin's and this one) if they are open.

I will try to compete, I have been neglecting this place lately.

You won't really need to check in here at all if you want to join. Everything is done on an external site. All you really need to do is be sure to have your team set up before P3 on race weekend Saturdays. To be honest, I usually watch P2 then make my adjustments. After the scores are updated post race I make any changes to my team. You don't need to spend more than 5-10 minutes twice a weekend to participate.

I decided to just open the league to however many people feel like joining. Just head over to http://purefantasyf1.net/en/ and sign up. ROAD_DOGG, I'm not sure if there's one set up by the site or not. I didn't see one listed but I'll look into it. I'd sign up at least a week before the first race just to get set up if possible.

To everyone who has signed up is is planning to, go ahead and create two teams. It helps round out the field a little more plus it lets you choose different setups to try and maximize your points.

Bumping this to see if we can generate some more interest. About a month away from the season opener. Hoping the unrest in Bahrain doesn't cause any problems.

Because of the cancellation/postponement of the first race in Bahrain, the season will start with the Aussie GP and will have 19 races. That is unless Bahrain is slotted back on the calendar, in which case it will be re-added to the Fantasy season. You now have until the time frame of March 24th-25th to sign up and participate. We're looking at 6 people and 9 teams, definitely hoping to attract more. Again, you are permitted to enter 2 teams.

Does anyone else find this budget way to contsrained. The only way I can get a complete team is to buy all back of the grid equipment. If I buy just one good driver/engine/chassis, I do not have enough money to complete the team.

Your budget increases over the course of the season. It's at 80 mil right now, but after 5 or 6 races you'll be able to afford a top driver and decent chassis/engine. It's set so low at the beginning to actually make it interesting. Everyone would just buy the best everything from the start if they could. It's just set up in a way that you can put your money into a top driver, or a top car, or go for a well rounded setup. Trust me, it opens up pretty quickly.

Joined the site, would love to join the league. The 2010 season was the first one I ever watched, but I loved every race. Let me know about the details.

I'm totally new to it, but I am signing up. Question - do I need to spend all 80 mio right away, or do I need to keep cash in reserve?

EPower: you can spend the bare minimum, all 80, or anything in between. After each race your available funds go up. I had around 135 mil for each of the 3 teams I ran in different leagues last season. It's not uncommon for the good people to hit 150 mil or more. Prices for drivers, engine, chassis, etc also change during the season based on performance, but usually only by a few mil over an entire season.

It all comes down to strategy, and at times luck. You'll get a race or two where someone unexpected does real well and/or wins and the top guys falter which can really boost or hurt your week. I went most of last season with an HRT driver just because it was easy to get the 5 bonus points for predicting their qualy position. That saved me money to put towards something else and get a better return on my money.

According to this season's rules, each team's budget will increase by 2 M after each race. If I remember correctly from last year, having the race winner, winning chassis, or winning engine manufacturer will also increase your budget. The prices of components are usually reset after the 3rd race, with the new prices based on performance. If you haven't yet, look over the rules (listed under component costs) for more info on how the prices can change.

Also, if you weren't aware, the league allows for each person to have two separate teams if desired (My two are Look Left and Look Right). I usually run my second team with a different budget strategy or use it to compare components against my main team to see which is a better fit.

To those already signed up, good luck this season

It's quickly approaching the new start of the season. If you're not in and want in, now's the time. Good luck to all the participants.

With Friday Practice 1 a little over 4 hours away, the season is officially ready to get under way. Make sure you have your teams set up the way you want them before Saturday practice, as the database gets frozen and your teams enter a Parc Ferme of sorts. Good luck to everyone.

I actually entered as well. I watched F1 all of last year and 2009, but have never participated in any sort of fantasy league before. I will understand and strategize better after the first week, hopefully. I'm also not particularly active in this part of the GTP forums as well. Maybe that will change.

An interesting first weekend of the season. Some good showings from unexpected drivers and retirements and mediocre drives from upper-level teams really skewed the results. Some of you got hurt pretty bad by the retirements by Mercedes, and I got very lucky with a podium from Petrov. With a week under our belts, I expect the next race to be a lot tighter. Remember to get your guesses for qualy position in before Saturday practice to grab those bonus points. If you guys have any questions just ask.

On to race #3. Some good showings and some bad ones last week. Things should even out after this week when the real changes in team budget start to roll in.

How do you edit your team line-up?

Edits are disabled right now as it's the race weekend, but any time other than between the start of FP3 on Saturdays and the end of the race there should be an Edit Team button between your team name and the league name on the MY TEAMS tab. It's in green if I remember correctly. You just click on that and pick new components from the drop-downs. But, you only get 3 free changes from race to race. Any more than 3 and you lose 5 points per change for the weekend. Also, after this race component costs will be adjusted based on performance, and your budget will increase or decrease accordingly.
