All the cars were doing this.
They used to routinely "just" be 2 wheels off the deck through there, but this year went further, and it wasn't just one or two either - it was lap after lap for most of the field. Chaz Mostert took something like 1.2 seconds out of the lap record on a 69 second lap, and I'm sure the new line through turn 9 pictured above was a part of that. The Surfers Paradise chicanes have always been wild but this year more than ever.
