xbox blows hard
Ive met alot of good racers in my short time, playing online, i didnt actually buy GT5 til february, but had already setup my account and had picked my online name, CAPN CRUNCH, easily identifiable and catchy, ive been also lucky to have made buds with some good racers, let me in on certain techniques, etiquette, all that stuff, i primarily race nascar, but i realize the true potential of gt5, cars, tracks, setups, etc..... really nascar is about a fraction of gt5, i have bought several other vehicles, vettes, vipers, trucks, old muscle, new muscle, racecars, im interested in other aspects of the game, my A-spec level 37, B-spec, 32, and climbing, so im gona start this thread and see where it goes? my first question, im gona ask is, i host a room almost daily, i go into a room with my buds and almost immediately , im asked too open a room and be the host., so my question is this, how do i become a better host? should i keep on kicking the guys below level 21? do i continue to make spots for the guys on my friends list? if my buddy cant get into the room, do i kick someone i dnt know? i tend too boot the crappiest driver in the room, to make space for my buds, my bud list is almost full, and thats alot of kicking! I get alot of hatemail, saying alot of dumb things, like im gona get you, or my fave, paybacks gona be a BXTCH!, and i realize their are alot of really good driivers out there, but also alot of dinks that come in and go backwards, if you host your own room, u kno what i mean, the main reason im asking, is too be a great host, alot of the times, my rooms are good because of the racers that come, are excellent, thats what makes a room good, i find. BUT! there is always room for improvement, right? how many ??? is that anyways? lol, should i keep the room as is? or do i keep letting in thr RIFFRAFF of the open lobby come in, when actually 4 outa 10 drivers are good clean racers....any suggestions?

Im asking because the PSN blackout is almost over, and soon it will be business as usual. i want to keep the room dinkfree, and the racers in it comin back for more. A cool room to race in, these boys can race, and if you stopbye, tell me, u read this, so i dnt kick you...so keep it clean.....p.s if your gona hate ? dont bother too reply, to this, want positive reaction...capn

1. Start rooms with about 3 or 4 friends and let it grow, but tell each person who you don't know what the rules are.
2. Give them a chance.
3. Yes.
4. Wait till someone leaves, if you really want them in the room, I guess it's your choice to make him wait or kick someone without any apparant reason to make some space.
And yeah, always room for improvement. It all depends on you.

Just saying, when you make threads make them with paragraphs and better punctuation, so it's easier to read. A wall composed of words isn't easy to read.

cant beleive theres no stardate on this captains log

yeah paragraphs ,commars correct punctuation and proper english all helps the reader ,not only get to the end but easier to digest if you have something complex to say

p.s. bin laden is dead just goes to show you what americans can do when the PSN is down

Just a suggestion - if you only want to race with people from your friends list, setup the races in your lounge. That way there will be no randoms joining aside from people on your list and people from your friends' lists.

If you do race in an open lobby online, let your friends know when it's up so they can get in. There is a max of 16 racers in a lobby. It's rude to kick people you don't know just to make room for a buddy. That's why it's probably better to do the races in your private lounge. As always though, if someone isn't paying attention to the rules or is intentionally wrecking you or your buds, kick em.

understand completley ,good hosts who are online for a long period of time who give people a chance then will sacrafice their own race to eject others are too few and far between

as an englishman who races nascar you would not beleive the ammount of times i have been kicked from AMERICAN ROOMS for the reason and i quote "your not north american you will make the room lag"

and for this reason I ONLY RACE WITH GOOD HOSTS AND GOOD PEOPLE

RIGHT ON TERRY hear we may be racing by wednesday

that was the quote on the playstation Blog EU(europe) on twitter last tuesday

although since then they have given new information saying some services will resume this week but no confirmation on what services exactly

they have also released a statment saying they will be adding new security to the network and are advising all users to change their passwords when system is up and running as this was compromised

and have also stated a warning not to give information to cold callers regarding credit card details in relation to sony(saying sony will not call you)

this is the latest information i have found but only relates AE (guessing ALL europe) AU GB IE NZ

they state a phazed introduction of online gaming etc dont know when north america is scheduled no confirmation date

Being a good host is subjective - different people want different things from a host. Some might want a relaxed host, others might want someone more strict. Some might want a host that chats etc, others might want a host that just hosts and keeps quiet, it varies.

Being the best host is irrelevant to be honest, just be yourself, that way people can judge for themselves and those that like your way of doing things will stick with you as they know what to expect in your room - consistency helps.

If you're friend's list is nearly full, then you're better off racing in a private lounge, that way you won't have to worry about making room for people who aren't your friends - only your friends can join.

You might not care about your punctuation and grammer, but others will - especially the Mods. Many people have tried the 'rebel' attitude - 100% of them have failed.

It's up to you, carry on regardless but it'll just be a matter of time before your time on GTP will be over. I'm not being nasty or arguementative, just being honest, the Mods are very consistent, they'll all tell you the same thing "...you signed up for the rules, therefore you have to obey them...".

Everyone gets told the same, no matter who you are, most GTP members aren't being nasty when they mention this to you, it's just a friendly piece of advice as those who've been here long enough know what'll happen. There's a few wannabes (mods) who'll be a bit more sarcastic etc, but most people are just trying to help you.

I wouldn't kick anyone just because they're A-Spec 21 or lower, 21 is an acceptable figure. They may just not see the point of aimlessly grinding just to raise their level.

Also don't just kick people out without an explanation, it will leave them bitter, angry and confused. They WILL remember your name and do the same to you when they are host. 👍

The AUP for this forum is strictly policed. You have no first-amendment rights due to the forum's own fifth-amendment rights... and you're speaking through the AUP that you agreed to.

On the main-topic: If you're racing with friends all the time then we can't really tell you what THEY want - you should know yourself after time.

I run a site that specifically organises races (rather than being a club). We've run 2000 races since we started in 2008, here are my tips for being succesful:

a) Be strict with the rules - if not you'll spend more time arguing than you do racing
b) Give people limited choices and make sure that each of those choices is workable
c) Stick with it. There will be plenty of days when you want to give up... and then your work is wasted
d) Good luck :D

thanks , i appreciate the tips

Please, capitalize "I" as well as the beginning of each sentance. Everyone here is trying to help you make your time on GTP the best it can be, but if you continue to ignore their advice you will draw the anger of the Mods and you will lose out on the great wealth of clean drivers on this board.

The guys i race with , already know how i run my rooms, the riffraff that come in, 4 of 10 are very good, usually! Im just tired of having too boot guys, that are level 30 or higher, after they been in the room for awhile, when they decide its time to go backwards.

With auto grinding, glitching and the wealth of EXP points easily availble now (and since the seasonal events came in) someone's level doesn't really matter or is not representitive of their skills and driving ability / attitude IMO.

Judge them by their attitude on the track and in the lobby, do they listen to you, do they have respect etc etc if not, give them a hoof (kick)...

Obviously, some guys are just a nightmare from the moment they come into a room, but I find others can become quite cool if you explain things to them, talk to them rather insult or demean them and it's surprising how some people can turn themselves around.

Random online lobbys have got such a bad reputation, people tend to stereotype and then act in a way which reinforces that stereotype, as mentioned by others, give some gives a chance and they'll come good.

The others who don't want to listen, learn or 'play by the rules', well it's the same in any area of life, they just aren't worth the hassle - hoooooooooof them....

I have too be honest. The few days ive been on gtplanet, I have had more negativity, than positivity, and im not talking, my grammar, im just a racer looking to kill time til the network, gets back online. My girlfriend is a computer engineer, and filled me, about geeks that think, there the almighty. Once they get a mouse, or computer in front of them. Im gona bet once they read this, they will get angry. I was not trying to offend anybody, and im not talking bout anybody specific.

The glitch made it very difficult to judge any racer based on their A-spec level, good rooms, and good racers, thats all i want.

A good tip for that is to stay away from the races (i.e. regulations) that encourage the bad drivers, rammers and cheats etc etc

Make the races longer, avoid the bottleneck tracks that turn into a demolition derby at the first corner, avoid the Ring (so many people can't overtake cleanly here and think because they race around the ring all the time this makes them cool and great drivers - it doesn't), maybe don't use Racing softs for every race, turn most or all the driving aids off and title your room accordingly.

It's these things that tend to attract the better drivers (clean and fair) and the drivers who can't race clean and fair will naturally leave as soon as they see the regulations.

Long races are a good example, so many random lobbys have short races because alot of random guys burn their tyres out too quick. The guys who have worked this out (how to keep their tyres in good condition) are normally alot cleaner than the guys who race 1 lap of the ring, or 3 laps of Trial Mountain / Deep Forest etc etc.

Also, join in events or series from the online racing subsection of this forum, 99.9% of the guys there will probably be clean and fair.

Best of luck 👍

I like the suggestions, im getting. I have been hosting alot, and meet alot of good drivers. The guys on my buds list, the racers, i race with all the time, know how i run my rooms. My friends list has a few open spots, for any unknown racer, that comes in the room and blows us all away. I like that! Thats the type of racer i will befriend, immediately! This does not happen as much as it used too.

I turn off all aids, set the hp level 892, weight 1650kg. I have named the room several times invite only, and still get the occasional dirtbag, sending me hatemail, even after, i politely told them, invite only. They say, no good rooms to race in, or can i stay? I guess these kinda racers are around, everywhere. Its a shame, because they may be good, but other racers ruin it for them.

I have several techniques when i open a room, i wont start a long race til at least 10 good drivers in the room, after several 10 lap shootouts, i watch the race, while the race is happening, sometimes i will purposely go to the back, to watch everybody i dont know, or randomly up the laps, and watch them scatter. Some, cant get out of the room fast enough. Its funny! My friends kno exactly what im doing, too!

I have already been booted several times, thats why i host all the time, or go to a buddies room that has invited me. I open lobby race because the mics are better, and occasiionally make a new friend

I can't wait for PSN to get back on. I want to try this "online racing" stuff I keep reading about. I'm not the greatest, but I'm decent with a DS3. Nothing I'd enjoy more than being able to really test my skills against a lot of quality gamers out there. That's the best way to know where you stand! :)

Didn't read the whole thread so I might repeat something already said. In my opinion, if you create an open lobby, you should respect all racers in your room and not boot anyone out to make room for your friends. If you want to boot crap drivers, guys going backwards, guys not racing or in the wrong cars etc. that's fine. But to boot someone so your friend can get in is bad etiquette IMHO and poor sportsmanship.

If you want a lobby for your friends only, create a private lounge as some have suggested.

No, disagree.

Respect those that have respect, those that don't respect others, both on the track and in the lounge are fair game for kicking IMO.
