Create thumbnails for all cars - How is it working for you?

My PS3 have broken down several times. Luckyly, i back up my save ones i a while! :)
But, when going back to my save, lots of cars were missing the preview thumbnails. Or they were showing the wrong picture. Pressing "create thumbnail on every car is mildly said, extremely boring. The last time I got a new PS3 I did not bother doing it since I have done it before.
So this new button that does it on all cars should be great!! :)

First try while standing in my "favourite folder" with 100 cars Waited about 7 min. Nothing happened! Restarted PS3 and game. Still cars missing.. hmm.. Did not seem as if nothing had happened.
Second try i did it while standing in my "premium folder with 245 cars About the same time as first try. And i worked! :) Also, all my favourites were now showing even tough it was alot of standard cars in the folder.
Third try while standing in the "standard car" folder with 828 cars.. Took about 1hour and 5 min..
So, dont expect it to be fast!

I don't get how this thumbnail thing works, i don't think i've ever used it..is it just a pic of the car? what's it suppose to do?
 
Yeah. Its just the thumbnail of your cars. The little picture. But if near half of your car thumbnails are missing or wrong due do getting a new PS3, then I guess you would also want to see them.
Thrust me, its really annoying when you don't have pictures on your cars. Or even more when they show the wrong one.

Yeah you don't realize that before the experience.
Answering to the question, i have tryed it some minutes ago -(i've lost all the thumb after i got my save corrupted, but i still have averything).
So, i've tryed it on my standard cars, only 213, obviosly a slow process but it works well for me, i can see everything again.
 
Just as slow.. I have over a thousand cars.. Might be uploading your garage to PD then running a batch and getting the images in a download? perhaps traffic for 2.0 is making it slow!

If so that's an interesting approach.. but I don't know why it couldn't be backgrounded.

I'm still waiting for mine to finish..

oh really, mine were always there but sometimes it would show the wrong paint job..how do you create a thumbnail? i didn't know you could do that before

I know there's no thumbnail online
 
You press the "triangle button" when standing on a car in your garage.
On the list of things you can you should be able to select "Create Thumbnail" or the new feature "Create thumbnails for all cars"

Ill update my first post.. Updating my standard cars took about 1hour and 5 min..
 
I knew it was going to take a long time. The first time I had to recover my saved data I had to do each one individually (around 700 of my 1055 cars) it took hours.
So first thing I did after the update was to go to the garage and regenerate all my thumbs. Turned off the TV and went to bed.

Note to PD: Please add a comment in the status bar: Working on it, you may want to sleep now.
 
hehe.. yeah, but instead of that comment they should add something like a new button after the process have started.

"Continue this later" or a "cancel" button.

My premium folder was "fast". It was the standards that were extremely slow. It should have taken 3-4 times as long, not 8..

Anyway, great feature! :)

That is what I tough at first, but they came, eventually.. Think it was what happened when I did my "favourite folder".
After I did the my "standard cars folder" it took some time before it got fixed..
 
Had a few premiums missing & that took about half hour to do. Decided that even though it was a pain in the ass i'd do the stds as well while i was at it. Have 840 & i would think 30% were missing & that took about half hour too. Done now though so all good
 
So this feature is to fix a bug of some sort (one that I haven't experienced) ?
 
Mine is off working away on my Premiums now, most of them were missing so I hope it fixes them. It's only taken about 10 minutes so far too, not too bad for 126 cars!
 
It worked fine the first time on my Premiums. Took a while as the game said so itself but it worked.
 
As I said in another thread if you have any broken cars (one which go to a black screen and then the main screen when selected) changing all thumbnails will freeze the game up.

You are correct, I went for a race in disgust :) and when i came back they were there :)

I don't think so. It probably loads your car, with your settings, and generates a thumbnail from the actual 3D model, like it does with your avatar and the 8 poses.

Notice that if you lower the ride height of the car, the thumbnail will reflect it.
 
I once thought the thumbnail purpose was to view it in the photo section of GT5, or at least use for photo viewing in the XMB of the PS3. It does neither, so I really don't know why I'm even in this thread to post that I don't care about this feature.
 
Lambob: You can take photos in photo mode and export them to the XMB using the proper option in photo album.

But the thumbnail is for generating the little car picture displayed when you are selecting cars from your garage. For example, when I transferred my data from one PS3 to another, all thumbnails were gone. Had to do them one by one before. Now if that happens we can generate all at once.
 
I did it and it worked, the problem now is that my save file went from 1,8MB to 4,3MB, making it slower to do my daily backup.
Is there anyway to reduce the savefile size, plaese?
Did anybody else noticed the same size increase?
 
Does this work for online as well? I have thumbnails in SP. But they aren't listed when i go online.
 
I works, but it took about 15 minutes when I did it last ( new ps3, backed up save, same situation)

as with everything in GT5 lately: Have patience :)
