I thought about doing an online championship with the Ferrari F1 cars (10 in total).
there will be 10 tracks and each race will be 1 hour.
Track List:
Nurburgring GP/F
Monza (regular w/weather)
Grand Valley East
Indy Road Course
Suzuka (Weather)
Trial Mountain
Cote D' Azur
Fuji Speedway F
Laguna Seca
Spa Francorchamps (Weather)

im trying to make this as realistic as possible so:
Weather is going to be on if the track allows it.
Tire Wear and Fuel Consumption is On.
No Driving Line.
Everything except TCS and ABS is off.
Grip Reduction is On.
Every person will qualify.

Bump for your Opinions?

Well since you asked, the races are long, the season is long and the cars are expensive and the last thing I want to do with my 10-12million credit investment is tack on 1 hours worth of racing miles. On top of that, cars that are already fairly difficult to drive due to their speed will also have to contend with much more realistic parameters... which is very difficult since most F1 drivers don't use DS3 controllers to operate their cars and thus the realism is moot and replaced with what I see as needlessly difficult limitations.

Never mind the fact that digital or not, F1 drivers have years of racing experience with open wheel cars before getting anywhere near an F1 car. You and I just cannot expect to do F1 races (real or not) to the same level that they are in real life, so you need to accept this and implement features and limitations that allow drivers to succeed with minimal experience, while still providing close and exciting racing.

I find myself pouring an insane amount of concentration and energy into the 10/20 lap Formula GT races in GT5... I cannot imagine what I would do if I had to do that for an hour!

I would love to see a Ferrari F1 series and I think it would work... but there's just not a lot of interest, and fast cars tend to expose latency issues that would otherwise go hidden in a race with slower cars.

EDIT: I was going to say something like this when you originally posted it, but I refrained since I wouldn't be interested in participating in a Ferrari F1 event regardless. I felt it wouldn't be right for me to criticize something I wouldn't even be willing to participate in anyways.

I may be interested in this, I've got 10 of the Ferrari F1 cars that I hardly ever get to use.

I like the race length, 1hr is about perfect for an online race.

The settings are great, but don't forget "weak" slipstream.

The only thing I don't like is 3 of the tracks, I would get rid of Grand Valley East, Trial Mountain, and Indy Road; the first two because they just don't belong and Indy just because I hate that track:sly:. That would make the season 7 weeks long.

I would also like to see the points counted for only your best 5 races out of the 7; that would let a driver miss two races due to unforseen circumstances that always seem to crop up.

Are you serious? Have you ever raced in an online series?

i see. thanks for the feedback i guess. ill stick too making public lobbies then.
well, i'll let this idea die. :(

I'm interested

I'm in.

We should discuss a few other points. What car are we using? F2007 has a distinct grip advantage. Either way, I'd say once the car is chosen it should remain the car for the entire season.

If we schedule it Saturday or Sunday 12-2PM starting time Eastern US; we might get someone from outside US,CAN,UK if closer to 12PM East. Not that it will help overall lag.

Other proposals
Assists: no ABS above 1
Transmission: Manual
Penalties: off
Mechanical Damage: Light
Slipstream: Weak

Also, you might as well do the whole Grand Valley track. Adding in Madrid would be nice too.

During the last F1 series I was involved in (URL below) I included a Points per Race line. This was a nice addition and gave people with scheduling conflicts something to race for. A series like the last one I was in was great and a lot of fun. If not for the PSN going down we probably would have maintained most of the original racers too.

I'm toying with the idea of doing a Ferrari F1 championship on Sports tires. This brings lap times closer to real life. The F2007 would use Sports hards & the F10 would use Sports softs. This would level the playing field & simulate the lower grip level of the grooved tires.

Put em' on snow tires, that will be interesting.

Dont think you can use snow tires on anything but snow in the game....not sure.

Anyways I doubt They'll be any more Ferrari F1 Championships from me. Too much going on now with the classic car thing. Then later in the year I'll be bicycle racing again & thats a real video game killer, takes up a lot of free time. I want to try and hit it hard with 30 races & whoop myself back into shape. (hardly rode this summer & lost my good fitness from previous years.)

I might join if the races are 1hr races, with all driving aids banned exept for abs, heavy damage, weak slipstrem, boost off

Im so sorry guys! my last post said i would let this die but i was actually going to bring this back in january! I also did do some track changes too.
I did my qualifying already complete with replays and i'll post them later for you guys if you want to qualify also.
If i dont read this (like last time) just add me on PSN (same name) and i can get you situated on GT5.

i know i shouldn't double post but...
how would you guy like if i made the races the day before the actual f1 races? so that means the season would start on 3/17/12. and i thought about using FGT's instead because of the many colors there are for it.

When you make it Wednesday or Thursday i can make it.

To make it more realistic when I host a room I usually crank the HP Down and run racing medium/hard.
Otherwise the speeds are just to unrealistic.

FGT would be a better choice for me, would really like to see a FGT league that uses the car at its original specs with all aids turned off.

The FGT with aids off is heavy hard to drive.
But The Ferrari f1 with aids off is good to drive.

Not really, once you get a good balance it's quite easy to drive it teaches you to brake, turn and reacts much more realistically to weight transfer and steering inputs than the Ferraris.
Ferrari is way too easy to drive and there's only 1 color... Don't know, I still like the idea of the FGT better...

Okay, I think i'm going to keep the Ferrari F1's.
Yes Jav, there's only one color but at least you have names above the cars.

I can get a pace car in here so the drivers are shortened to 15.
(Glitch)
Ferrari F1's in, Pace car person switches to unrestricted (f1's stay in because of the glitch) pace car person leads.
That is subjected to a Patch in February

i've shortened the series and the season will start 2/4/12
Here's the schedule
Feb 4th: Nurburgring GP/F
Feb 18th: Grand Valley Speedway
March 3rd: Spa Francorchamps
Mar 17th: Monaco
Mar 31st: Monza
Apr 14th: Fuji Speedway F
Apr 28th: Suzuka Circuit (Season Ender)

And in order to stop the f2007's from dominating. They must be ballasted (word?) to 560 kg.

I've got to put the word out about this guys, and if you guys are interested just tell me.

If you guys don't mind Me and another Friend had already qualified
(Got Pictures to Prove it)
I got 1:33.589 and he got 1.32.219
I want to add you guys in case you want to qualify early but mostly i would like everyone that want to get involved in a practice race to get a feeling of the real thing. But i really got to get a thread up though. (Im lazy:dopey:)
