Is it just me, or is the online part of gt5 getting worse every day? Now 99% of rooms I connect to disconnect me within 5 minutes.

While GT5 does have its fair share of online problems. This seems to have more to do with bad internet connection on your part.

Or other peoples connections. GT5 runs as a peer to peer game like a torrent, then others. Other games have servers just for the game. So the speed is always depended on everyone. If everyone had highspeed net, there never be am issue.

I notice this! I know it isn't Internet since when I host at very high quality things are fine????!??

i have nat 2
internet connect very high
and run my share of online rooms

if i dont change rooms, everything is fine
but if i change rooms, someone will lock up
and its always someone different
i race with the same people most everynight
and its random who gets locked

now...if i decide to go somewhere else
i will just back out and start a new room

but even then ...someone locks up

I haven't had any alarming issues lately while racing. The best way to ensure you won't have an error with your connection is to race in a room set to a limit of 12 players and turn voice-chat off.

I hate how much this game relies on an internet connection to operate. I have a 100% reliable, 50mb fibre optic connection, but if there is a hiccup with the server, even navigating some offline menus can be badly delayed and clunky.

I was struggling quite badly in some online rooms last night. Online menus repeatedly got stuck for 10-15 seconds, especially when trying to tune or select a vehicle, and frame rate and screen tear were abismal to say the least. I also suffered a few disconnects. However, when jumping into other rooms, things can be fine and run as normal, even when you join the same host again.

On the other hand, I noticed something very strange a few days ago, in a very good way that took some getting used to. It was when I was hosting my own room.

For starters, when people joined or loaded, it was all done almost immediately. Options to change track, settings and regulations never blanked out for more than half a second at any time, and when searching through the garage or tuning sheets, all the menus popped up immediately, no gradual fade in like normal, and the cursor was flicking through like a breeze.

That's not the strangest nor best part though. What I had notcied is that the physics and controls felt very different. They were super, super sharp and sensitive. Included in all this was the frame rate, it was running sensationally - faster than I've ever seen it before. There was no screen tear whatsoever, shadows had no jaggies or pixelation, neither did smoke or dirt clouds, in which the clouds of smoke and dirt generated and flowed much more quickly than usual..... the list goes on. It really was as if the PS3 had just been seriously overclocked.

I saved a couple of those replays to try and see if it would capture these positive effects when watching offline or not. I've yet to get around to doing that though, I'll have to remember later tonight.

My Internet is completely fine for other games.

On my behalf I 've noticed a change in physics too. The game now gives a sense of smoothness and sometimes I feel like I'm driving in a fast forward replay. You can notice this effect if you take a look at the curbs while driving. Sometimes it seems like the car is speeding up more than usual.
As soon as I noticed this it immediately popped in my mind Gta4, where the lag was somehow covered by this same effect. Everything seems to running smoothly, but in reality the room you're playing in is lagging badly.

I play with the same host every time I play online. Last night was my first time playing online since the update. It took me four tries to get in his room last night, and I had to stare at a black screen with a loading bar for about two minutes to do so. Everyone who joined had this problem. Towards the end of the night, the room started booting everyone but the host. He shut down the room, and we met up in his lounge, which ran without any issue whatsoever.

Maybe he was having connectivity issues in the open servers, but he never did before the update...

Does it mean someone has kicked you, when you receive the, "you have been disconnected", message? apologize for the noobish question in advance.

No, its a bad connection to servers. If you get kicked, it will say you were rejected.

I was having problems right after 2.06 was released, but that may have been due to the increased traffic and all those update downloads.

I upgraded the race quality from "High" to "Very High", and this seems to have improved stability for everyone I normally play against, except the kids with wifi. It absolutely destroys their connection, likely because it can't keep up uninterrupted.

I'll continue to experiment, but the stability does seem improved so far.

No disrespect but I run WIFI only and im 30. People have wifi issues because their router doesn't support the PS3 properly. The PS3 only supports wireless b/g, so anyone with a/n gets screwed. My router supports a/b/g/n, straight from my ISP so its not aftermarket. Most wifi routers out now only support n, which causes instability. So, I wouldn't say its only kids that run wifi only, its people with "high tech" routers (which the PS3 doesn't support) that have wifi issues.

I run rooms with High quality race and High quality Mics with about 6-8 people and no one has issues. We all run wifi.

Sorry, I meant kids as in young, unskilled, new drivers without much Gran Turismo experience, and not wifi users in general. I understand that the wifi can be made more stable, but often times I find it easier to provide the simplest solution, in this case a wire. I don't have the keyboard attachment for my DS3, so typing out the DMZ instructions and settings would take forever.

I'm online to race, not to type. When there's a wifi question, or something I typically don't know about, I refer the other players (kids, if you will) here for the answers.

Title should be

Online getting MUCH better. I haven't been disconnected, and I kid you not about this, for 3 months.
