GTPlanet, hello again.

Well, this is rare I do this, but I'd like to talk to fans of American cars for this one. No matter what anyone thinks, American muscle are cars that can go in a straight line, pack serious power, and look good doing it. While I'm not seriously a fan of any nationality of car, Gran Turismo 2 had all sorts of vintage cars. Who can ever forget racing a Shelby Cobra from the 60s? Or how about owning a Superbird and facing cars from Chevy, Ford, and other Dodges?

GT Fans of American cars, what will GT4 have to do to provide more American muscle? For one, I would love to own a 1957 or 1963 Corvette in the game. I'd also want to race a Bel-Air at Laguna Seca in a historics race. Maybe I'd want a black Plymouth Barracuda to modify for '70s style Trans-Am racing. GT2 had a lot of good cars, but some American treasures can still be found. If you want to look nowadays, the Dodge Neon SRT-4 would make a nice LM car. I like the 2000 Camaro RS models with their racy look. The 2005 Ford Mustang is nice, but I want one of the 1960s Mustangs. Like American cars or not, they really know how to turn heads, even if your car isn't a "rice rocket," like some people like to call them.

With a lot of cars on tap for GT4, how do you see the American side of things? I brought this topic up to focus on a certain nationality of cars. This will be a chance for you all to show off just what you want to see in terms of American cars.

You're right, the're (pretty much) the way to go in a strait line...... But when it comes to corners, i'd better have a WRX STi or NSX.....:trouble:

Don't get me wrong, i like them, but if i had to buy the first car in GT4, i'm afraid American muscle would not be it.

Yes, there should be more types of Muscles, as you said. Also, i have another idea: GM Series for example, with all GM's in the game from the 50's to present :)

GT2 had a decent  amount of cars, and many Muscles 👍 but they have.....prehaps too much power ;)

i would love some american cars, muscles and classics

I would like to see some cars and trucks from the 80's, and early 90's make into the game. Cars and trucks like the Monte Carlo SS, Buick GNX, GMC Syclone, 87 Camaro IROC, Chevy 454 SS, etc.

More muscle cars will also be needed, like the 69 Dodge Charger R/T or 500, 66 Chevelle Malibu SS, 1970 Chevy Nova SS and other early 70's Trans Am race cars.

I'm ready to race my chevelle down New Yorks double straightaways :O . I would also like to see a 1971 Boss Mustang :trouble: . And for the American side of things...I think GT4 will provide us with a lot of variety....American muscle, to the new muscle of vipers, vettes, and mustangs....and also the everyday street cars. Can't wait

I think he means the older, BIG stingray, the one in GT1 that you could only use in arcade mode, it was in GT2 as well as a later stingray.

Yes even though I am mainly a Japanese import fan I like most cars with american muscle being one of them. So yes bring on the older american muscle, all the classic mustangs, comaro's, chargers, gto's. I think its a good challenge trying to get a powerful muscle car round a corner without loosing it and kissing the barrier. We need more variety in GT4 and having all these muscle cars is a great start.

hell yes, the big old stingray, if it's ANYTHING like the pgr2 one, it should be an utter riot to drive :) So much power in those old american rear wheel drive cars, gotta love em.

Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes to American Cars.

What would GT4 Have to have to make ME, the American car fan, happy with the game.......ok here's MY list.

Ford

2004 GT
1969 Mustang Boss 429
1971 Mustang Mach 1
2002 Mustang SVT Cobra (in colors OTHER than Red!)
2005 Mustang GT
1994 Taurus SHO
1990 Escort GT
2004 Mercury Maurauder

Dodge

1970 Charger R/T
1971 Challenger R/T
2004 SRT-4
2005 Magnum R/T
2006 Charger SRT-8

Chrysler

2005 Crossfire SRT-6
2004 300M
2005 Hemi-300C

Give me the majority of THESE cars and I will be a hppy player of GT4. Heck, throw in a few nice Camaro's/Vettes/Vipers/Old Plymouths and it's even better.

Sadly, I havea feeling that only one or two of the cars I want in will actually BE in GT4......

Not too sure about that....500+ cars is a lot to fill...and your wishes my come true with that many cars in the game. It will probably be more like 700-800. Or at least i hope.

Now thatI think about it, it would be interesting to have the Chevrolet Chapparal... you know that white car with the big, tall rear wing? There are many candidates for good American cars without making GT4 mostly American cars.

The American car I'd most like to see is the new Pontiac GTO

But for a US car that isn't Australian, definitely old Mustangs and Camaros, and the original goat are on my wish list.

AMCs etc would be cool.

I reckon it would be more constructive to discuss the best ways to use the cars. E.g. Drag racing would make them more attractive. Do people have ideas as to where they reckon these cars are most fun to drive?

Theoretically, a reasonably fast course with little call for hard braking should suit these cars for racing... I guess that means racetracks (not street circuits).

But was it just me or were the big old muscle cars of GT2 at their best when they were sliding around Seattle Circuit short course? I want Seattle Short back...

I'll agree with you on that one. The Seattle Short was awesome for racing the muscle cars. It was also fun for the little cars, too.

The Stingray in GT2 was my favorite. Well, the blue racing car version of it was. The back end looked awesome with the four tiny holes in between the tail lights. 👍

I hope this returns, along with racing mods, which we haven't heard about yet.

I loved seattle short, i hope it makes a come back in GT4

I agree with everyone on this and would also like to see the Saleen, in any of it's many forms. From the mustange to the present. My fav in GT2 was the Camaro modified into the CanAm version.

Now, the Saleen S7 is, to me, one of America's real supercars. It is pretty expensive (more than a Lamborghini, and almost more than a Bentley with all options and gas guzzler tax. But I call it an American McLaren. I haven't seen it race much nowadays, but Steve Saleen has something to be proud of with its S7 and especially the S7R.

That ain't american muscle that's Aussie Muscle, Go the Monaro!

On the subject of Australian Muscle, just like to mention the Ford Falcon GTHO. I know they will never put one in a gran turismo game but i can dream can't i?

Model XY GTHO Phase III
Date of Manufacture 1971
Number Made 300
Engine Type 351 Cleveland
Horsepower 380 bhp

GT4 needs more Australian cars period. They only had the Falcon in GT3 if I'm correct, which in my opinion, was a pretty sweet car.

I believe GT4 should include this:
grandsport01.jpg

A 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

I've seen a (white) Grand Sport roadster, and to put it like this, they're simply stunning. But that car alone won't do, like I mentioned on another board, I would like to see more Cadillacs in addition to the frighteningly fast Cien, the '59 Series 62 Eldorado is one of them. I would like to see a Ford Taurus SHO (both gen II and III), Mercury Marauder and Messenger, Saleen S7, S351, Ford Mustang (too many models to mention), Ford GT, Model-T, Model-A, SVT F150 Lightning, '95 Chevrolet Impala, Cavalier, Cobalt, Trailblazer SS, Silverado SS Concept (the short version), Chrysler Neon SRT-4 and Crossfire SRT-6, GMC Syclone and Typhoon, Duesenberg SJ Dual Cowl (both roadster and phaeton versions) and SJ Mormon Meteor Speedster, Panoz AIV Roadster, and the list goes on...

Or to put it this way, GT4 has already made me happy once it's in the disc tray, but there is an enormous amount of special cars, no matter if they're American, European, Russian, East-Asian or Oceanean, that would make GT4 just a tad better for me.

Edit: Whoops, forgot to put the Ford Shelby Cobra Concept on the list.

For me the list for GT4 would have to include:

'67 Chevy Corvette Roadster
'69 Chevy Corvette w/ the big block
'70 Chevy Chevelle
Pontiac GTO Judge
Dodge Charger R/T
Plymouth Cuda
'67 Shelby Mustang GT500

And from nowadays:

2005 Chevy Corvette C6
2005 Ford Mustang GT
Dodge Neon SRT-4
Dodge Viper SRT-10
Dodge Ram SRT-10
Chevy Camaro SS
Pontiac Firebird Trans Am w/ Ram Air
2004 Cadillac CTS-V

You gotta love good ol' American Muscle, I know I do!:D

I always said that Australia is a little bit of America and a little bit of England. An example is their awesome V8 Supercar series. They have the American concept of not really fast-looking cars, but putting in big horses. And English as... well, they have the slight English accent. For you Speed TV viewers, Leigh Diffey is from Australia. But would you put Ford Australia in the category of American makes, even though Ford is all-American? Would Chevy take a Cosworth IRL motor and rebadge it as Chevrolet? I'd say that the late model Trans-Am and Camaros would be nice as well. They are heavy with heavy horses, but they still LOOK like raceable cars. The Camaro Race Car looks good with more than 500 horses. All that needs to be made is a Trans-Am LM Car with non-retractable lights and decent HPs.

just like to mention the Ford Falcon GTHO
You wouldn't want the Phase III if you could have Geoghegan's 'Super Falcon' touring car. Only two made, both in 1970, at a cost of todays equivalent of $1,000,000 each. One for Geoghegan and one for Moffat but Moffat had too much trouble sorting out his car and mostly used his Mustang. 615hp from the 351 Cleveland and lots of light weight parts.
Australia is a little bit of America and a little bit of England.
This is a very mis-informed comment. I'm sure you're a nice bloke and I always respect your comments, but I always said Americans are a little bit ignorant and a little bit egotistical. Australian muscle cars were born from the circuit racing scene, which means we know how to turn corners and not just left hand corners, but right hand corners as well.
But would you put Ford Australia in the category of American makes
Considering the Falcon is designed and built in Australia, no I wouldn't put them in the category of American makes.
they have the slight English accent.
More ignorance or hearing problems?

Back to the original topic. Obviously there will be Vipers in GT4, but I'd love to see a 69 Camaro ZL-1 and an El-Camino.
