well i was just wondering i have FFXI and you have to pay monthly to play that game. a big game as FFXI i would understand but since Gran Turismo 4 is a Really huge game that many people enjoy do you think one will have to pay a month to play online or do you think it will be free? if so. how much are you willing to pay a month to play gt4?

im hoping it better be free...the only reason i would even consider getting the network adapter would be to play gt4...and if i have to pay an additional montly fee ontop of that i just wont even bother

I'd like it to be free but if neccessary, I'd pay.

If it's free, you're going to get hundreds of ******** driving round the track the wrong way and hitting you head on.

Imo you shouldn't have to pay for GT4 online unless it is just like normal offline GT mode but fully dynamic & online, but I doubt that.

I'd be suprised if you did have to pay for it per month, its more likely Sony want GT4 to shift as many Network Adapters & Hard Drives as possible & to get people online. Personally GT4 will probably be the online PS2 game that I'll play online, not really interested in any others at the moment.

I am HOPE GT4 will be fee free for online play, they will possibly charge for extra item for download like tracks, parts, cars and stuff.

yah, if it was for tracks parts etc i would pay but not monthly

The clause to a PS2 NE account here is that games are free at the moment with the ability for Sony or the game publisher to charge a fee at a later date. GT4 will probably launch under similar conditions, and be free at least for a while.

Lamers is a frequent problem in games like NFSU, however from what I've read GT4 has a solution to that problem: a speed limit (somewhere between 80-120km/h I imagine) is set for each circuit. If you collide with another driver or a wall, your car is taken over by Auto Drive at the designated circuit speed limit for 10-20 seconds. So kamikaze attacks by n00bs will result in them having their machines reset and locked down so as not to cause a problem - whether they'll actively be removed after a certain number of infringements I'm not sure, but given the way things have gone with measures like this in FPS games I think it would be wise. They're aiming to make GT4 even more of a realistic driving simulator - that entails realistic punishment as well.

Free would cause lots of people to be online with the game. But the majority will be #$%^heads.

Having a monthly charge would weed out a goodly number of the jackholes and additionally provide upkeep for the servers and downloadable content for the game. All of this increases the quality of play.

Very true - if they want a monthly charge to provide new content and upkeep of servers then by all means, I'm up for it. As long as it's not just a revenue raising exercise.

Definitely. I want more for my money than playing laggy games with a-holes. I want new cars, new mods, new tracks, new ... well maybe that's all there is in GT but I want more of it (:

I better be free or Ill be pissed off. Me and the guys in my street were planning on settling once and for all who the best drivre is in a 50 lap MidField enduro.

I would pay a monthly fee just to keep out these wannabe drifter ****heads that propagate in the GT4 forum out of GT4 online.

yea i would pay as well because you wont really have alot of a**holes messing people up on purpose. now what is the most you are willing to pay a month IF it is monthly charge, i already pay 13/month for FFXI the most im willing to play in addition to FFXI is another 13

i think it should only be 1-5 dollars tops...i honestly dont think the drifters would go and bother paying the 1 dollar because then theyd have to go and bug their parents to use their credit card and then their parents would say no(if they dont have their own)...its small enough for the gt4 fans to pay but to much hassle for the wannabe fans and drifters to go through

it should be free, unless theres a tournament or something. for a tournament to require an entree fee would weed out the people who go into the tournament just to screw other players up. As for eliminating people who go backwards, they should make them automatically clippable, so if someone is going backwards, you go right through them. i think they did this with project gotham or something. they should also do this to cars that are stationary or moving very slowly after 4 seconds or something. this will somewhat take care of people who sit at turns so that people will hit them. one of my major conserns tho, is gonna be people who just use other people to slow them down by ramming them. you guys know what im talking about. i really dont know how they'll fix this unless theres damage to your car (not visual damage, but like steering alignment and what not like in GT2). having this will make the hitter think twice about using others as coushions (ok, i dont know how to spell that). but back on topic, i would be surprised if they had a monthly fee. and if there is a fee, it should be for events like tournies or whatnot. but even then, a buck or 2 should be good.

Hmm... clipping is an interesting thought. You'd need to have a good system for when it's implemented. If you can do it based on proximal speed, say a difference greater than 50km/h within 5m both cars go into clip mode, that'd be the best.

The clipping idea sounds good. What about ****heads who bump you or force you into the wall?

I still say a pay system will guarantee quality online play. $9.95 USD seems to be the going rate for online games.

Paying will be the best way to keep the idiots down. The clipping system gets complex in your scenario - you need solid cars to slipstream (theoretically), but perhaps once a car pulls alongside clipping comes into play. Judging this would also be difficult - 1m side proximity with perhaps 5m front and rear? That may actually work out ok...

A difficult one.
Part of the fun in racing is hard fought battles that has some light bumping, door to door and and nudging, this has to permissable.

Also the difficulty will come when you following some one close in the corners and they brake early or harder than expected and you end up clouting them, under the prologue example you will be penalised, the difficulty then comes if people start slamming brakes to get you off their tail with a penalty.

Hopefully those that drive the wrong way, will as has been said before will be unable to hit you, by passing through you.

Perhaps some kind of report system where those who drive badly, dangerously, or delibratly crash can be reprted and have a series of markers put against them so when you decide wether to race you can see those who have bad driving.
The markers could be reduced when they have a series of clean races to there name.

The best way to avoid idiots online, isn't to pay a subscription. Think about it, your still gonna get some rich kids that sole purpose of playing online is to spoil others games if they loose. It would only take 1 a**hole to ruin a race.

The best way is to join a hosted passworded game of trusted GTP members (for example). So if they play dirty you can advertise it here, so they won't play any more races. ;)

And of course as has been suggested & implemented in PGR2, simply ghost their car if they go the wrong way, although they can still play dirty...
