Going the wrong way altogether is a lot easier to cater for than the racing incidents we've all come up with. Playing with only GTP members is an option, however I think the reports system is likely to see implementation. Then again you run into the danger that you'll have people abusing that, logging complaints about good drivers etc. I wonder if there is a perfect system...

Making it free or not, will not change things:
There will always be stupids playing uncorrectly.

I think that this is a hard point to affront for Polyphony.

You assume that the cars have to be solid to slipstream from. It's not real air inside the PS2 you know. :p And, if the clipping disappears, you could just drive straight thru them.

Are u Talking about having full no contact racing
I.e Six ghost car oppponents where anyone can occupy the same piece of track

It should be free, and i agree on the password idea..but also..there should be an option for the host to boot people acting stupid...and it goes on their record, so before a game when someone request to join, you can look at their stats...see how many boots, wins, losses, ect..Or each game has a certain number of win requirements..and boot requirements you can set, for high skill races..but these are all options to the user..and you can have games that dont count towards your record...If you are in a mood to play around witha group of friends...

All this stuff can get really confusing. What I would worry about more is people cheating online, rather than smashing into my car. Although the smashing does piss me off, having some mini cooper pass me when i'm going 160mph would just be wrong.

I say we should section off the online play. Have certain servers that people who do not pay can play on. Then have an area where people who do pay, can play on. If you look at Nascar racing season 2003, you'll see the same stuff that we are talking about.

I certainly would pay to play it, but if it's free, that's a bonus.

I did hear somewhere that Sony were going to be taking its online community quite seriously and games which use CentralStation Would have full time moderators to prevent cheaters abusing the system.
Quite how this will be implemented im not sure, but im pretty sure GT4 will be one of Sonys flagship central station platform games, where they will manage forums, communitys, download content, and online competitions, with moderators overseeing tha rules are adhered to.

Or they could do implement the same options that Race Driver 2 has.The host can swich between Full Contact(normal),Forward Only(People driving backwards are ghosts) and Collision off(everyone is a ghost). That way if there is someone beign an *** you either kick him or turn on No Collisions. That way everyone is happy.
That's my take on it.

It should be free, because even though I race fairly, I don't oh I meant won't pay to play online, sorry but if I gotta pay $50 for the game and $50 for dsl the heck im not gonna pay like another $20 for online play. In SOCOM 2 they have it so you could create your own rooms with passwords etc... I say use that, Being able to accept people into your race (if your the host), So yes you could see there win/lost/booted/conncection speed etc.. all the info, The should have it Like NFSU where you have a ranked section and unranked section where you could go fool around with your buddies, have a demolition derby even though theres no physical damage  But would be fun either way. Also in SOCOM they have a nice ranking system so if your in a high ranking like professional your cant enter into rookie races or ametures etc... Again they'll always be cheaters but hopefully they could prevent it, Like the penatly system is great, but also do it so people cant drive on the track the wrong way, have it so if they start after like 2-3sec they turn back around the right way.. So no head on collisions, I just really hope they are working hard to make online the best but cleanest way possible..

The best way to weed out WCD-idiots in GT4 Online is to play with people you know, set a common password that all legit player knows and kick everyone out that doesn't refered by a legit players.

i hope you dont but i would pay if needed i just hope you dont get ********s going the wrong way and crashing into you on purpose thAT would really spoil it

I wonder if there'll be a way to incorporate a sort of admin system - it'd have to be comprehensively menu driven but it'd certainly be possible.

I can guarentee that will happen, the bet way to avoid that I suppose would be to enter more of the official competitions and over time get to know players that tend to be online when you are and play against them more.

I doubt GT4 will charge a monthly fee to play online, only FFXI has that on PS2.

I wish that no game charges regular fees, maybe Guild Wars can change that.

I wouldn't pay, simple as that. FFXI is a much larger game, it's also a online only game, hence the fee, the fee you pay is for the servers anyway, you connect to a dedicated server that's only ever hosting that game and that server needs to be paid for, obviousely theres proft involved too.

how much are you willing to pay a month to play gt4?
Exactly 0,00.
If it's not free I won't play on-line. I have enough friends in the neibourghood to play with them and it doesn't cost anything.
And if there's no 2-player mode (as in the Prologue) I won't even buy GT4 but keep playing at GT3.

I can almost absolutely garauntee everyone that it WILL be free. There is no reason whatsoever that the game would require a monthly fee. The only reason MMORPG's require a fee is that the worlds are usually worked on and updated. Plus there are games masters (or whatever their called) and people that take care of the games running. All GT4 needs is a buncha servers and that's it. Tournaments would NOT be hard to set up at all and that shouldn't be a reason to add a fee either.

Like many people have said, just put a password on the rooms. Personally, I find it funny when I see people going the wrong way or doing something stupid. It's a freakin' game and if it looks funny, then it looks funny (even I get stopped dead by a head-on and the guys front end fills my screen). Want a proper race? Once again, use a password.

that`s the best idea i`ve heard so far! except that i wouldn`t want to play with the "all ghosts" option. then you could just as well just drive time-trials and try to beat the record. some of the fun about playing with other people is that you have to relate in them in some way while driving.

and i would pay to play. but not more then $5 or so. just to take out those who wanted to crash into others, or remove the ability to enter with hacked cars. don`t see any other reason to why they should make us pay

Not picky on you in particular Moriquendi but, why does everyone keep saying that a fee will keep the cheaters/psycho drivers out?? If there's public access, of course some of them are going to f^ck around no matter what the entrance fee. A productive idea would be to say "lets include something similar to that DNAS thing Sony has going".

Of course it won't stop every cheater/psycho out there. People cheat in all games, even fee based games. I think what is more important is the maturity level of players. Younger users are more likely to "mess around" and ruin a game. By requiring a credit card (or debit card) to play, it forces a certain maturity level and filters out the unwanted players.

And also deprives younger, mature players of the chance to play a game they love online.

Xbox Live requires a credit card. I don't see anyone complaining about that.

If you are truly mature yet, underaged, I'm sure your parents will also see that you are and will let you borrow their credit card.

I agree that a credit card can be borrowed, but your previous post made it seem like a person would need to actually HAVE a credit card to play online. I think i may have misunderstood your post.

np 👍

but as viper says, it will remove the majority fo jack@$$es out of the game. i know a few people that enjoys runing games for other people, but when it comes to pay to ruin sonething, i`m 100% sure NONE of those would pay. and most of those taht mess around are under 18 aswell, and very few parents will waste money on their kids just to let them spoil a game for others. so most of the troublemakers will begone :) altough there will always be some....
