Hi, GTPlanet.

Gran Turismo 1 - win a race, pole position, endurance, championship, you win money. Win a series, clear license tests, or an endurance, you win money plus a new car.

Gran Turismo 2 - win a race, endurance, rally, championship, or race event (the manufacturer-specific races), you win money. Win a non-championship race, an endurance, clear all license tests, or an entire championship, you either win money, a new car, or money and a car.

Gran Turismo 3 - win a race, championship, endurance, or rally, you win money. Win a race series, championship, endurance, complete any mode of game play, clear license tests, clear a certain percentage of the game, and you win a car.

So for GT4, do you think more cars should be rewarded? Higher money prizes? A chance to maybe win TWO cars for sweeping a championship series and a chance at double money? A good cash bonus for completing a certain task (for example, beat your best lap time twice, complete a lap without hitting a wall or another car, lap two or more drivers, etc.)? Reap the rewards! Reply now.

I vote for rewards to be given in accessories, such as unique colored cyber-vented air fresheners. The instruction manual could come with a scratch and sniff section that corresponds to your winning flavor.

First short start-post! Congrats!;)

I know what I would like to see: Instead of that random car-award-system, a system where the player decides on which car he/she wants. Offcourse the only visible would be shadows made up of the outlines of the different cars, to give the player a bit more of that surprise-feeling when he selects his/her award. If multiple colors, those would be random.

I want car parts, and upgrades, but no car freshners.

How about a bonus for fastest lap time? But the PD would have to start recording lap times again.

Hi,
It would really be cool when you could choose between a certain number of cars. Sometimes when you race a series you get one out of the four (initially black) cars. Sometimes it's the car you want, sometimes it isn't. Everybody knows the trick with saving and reloading the game until you get the desired car, but this is pure waste of time.

GT4 should open a showroom with a number of cars to the winner of a race/series of races. The winner should be able to choose between these cars. Another possibility is the option to use your credits to customise these cars (colours, wheels, . . .).

Sounds fun 2 me !

I like the idea of double money/cars for clean sweeps. Lapping drivers one would be nice but too abusable, not a wise one to include. Unique parts, those would be good. Especially since we'll be seeing other people's machines online, having something to separate us all would be great.

Kind of reminds me of Motor City Online, that rewarded unique parts and cars to company tournament winners. The player-driven economy then drove the prices for unique parts and cars up to millions of dollars. Not sure if I agree with the economic system, but unique winnings would be nice. Last I heard, GT4 was going to take advantage of the HDD, so it would be dope to see downloaded prizes to winners of official, Polyphony Digital tournaments online.
Any former MCO players here?

...Looks like I'll be needing an HDD then...

I have to say having paid $150AU for a new 120gb drive, to pay double that for 1/3 the space seems sorta lame...

I like the idea of a 'Clean Race' reward. Although perharps cheap, but still, for the average player, its something to be proud of.

You got those in NFSU but really, every lap should be a clean one. I suppose encouraging people with a reward would be a good idea though...

How about getting the amount of money linked to the amount of times you hit someone/ go off the track?

*cough* Style points :p

I don't think we should go overboard with rewards - you start to set dangerous precedents and pretty soon you're rewarding people for the most mundane tasks.

Well there should be a few modes where you win money, cars etc.... and here they are

Arcade mode, You want a quick race against the computer or a Buddy? well heres the place to be, In Arcade you should just win money for completeing a certain amount of races or for the best times (laps, and race completion), lapping cars, clean race, being in first the longest, perfect drifting / power slides etc.. these things should all gain you some sort of money but yet pride at the same time. The money should very from 25 credits to maybe 150 credits, of course beating records should be the most rewarding.. Now you all maybe wondering "we'll what could we do with the money?" well there your answer for the online portion of the game there should only be a set number of cars, then the money that you made racing in arcade mode you could use to buy cars for the online mode, This way not only are you just raceing in simulation mode but you bring a little bit of simulation into arcade.

Now if not credits then some sort of points system should be intact but with the same basics as the money idea, they only thing diffrent is you wont use money to buy cars but with the point system, such as NFSU's "style points" you will unlock cars the more you race. This way not only are you unlocking cars for online but for arcade use aswell. This way people are "forced" to use slower cars at first then work there way up to the super cars..

Now with adding a little more spice like this to the arcade portion will only make the game as a whole, more complete.

Online Mode, Now online mode could have the same basics for the arcade mode, but if you dont want to unlock cars in arcade for online then just unlock cars online for the online mode only.. How this works, well the same basics you lap a racers, win a race, drifting etc... this way again your forced to start out online with slower cars then work your way up to super cars, by having sections for beginners all the way to professional, you wont be raceing a honda civic vs. a dodge viper, but with a ranking system like in SOCOM2 you must have a certain ranking to enter certain races... This will or course bring new racers up so they could race against other top ranked racers, ( a little off topic) but if you use this system you will minamize cheating yet reach your goals quicker, and of course have fun...

Simulation Mode, Now in Simulation, I kinda liked they way all GT games worked, if you won a series race you win big bucks and a car, but yes instead of the random pickings by the computer they should keep the same system as in GT3 by having the shadow cars go around in circles and you click X when the GT logo highlights underneith the car you want... Now races such as, the FF, AWD, MR etc.. where its not really a race series just winning money and unlocking an upgrade(1) will do perfects. For rally raceing they should incude race series and no not like how GT3 had it where you race the same track with just more laps, but include actual raceing series, in there you should obviously win money and yes a rally car, useing the same method like I said earlier with the shadowed cars. In manufacturer specific races you should win not so much as money but maybe a car right from that dealer, so if I race with a Civic I win a Prelude or S2000 or an Accord, For Chevy lets say I race with a Neon well I could win a Malibu, a camero, or Corvette.... etc.. Makes more sense than raceing in a Dodge race and winning a car from Subaru.. Along the way, as you beat lap times, race times, clean races, In the lead the longest, drifts etc... you unlock upgrade(1) this way your bringing in a little bit of arcade into simulation and vis versa, Because always haveing everything unlocked in simulation mode right from the beginning is boring. but unlocking as you go brings more suprises and spice to the game.
In the "school/license" mode you should win upgrades for getting a gold trophy for that test, after a certain amount of gold you win a possibility of a car or money.. I think there could be more things that I could talk about and think of but for now thats all I got..

"key"
(1) Upgrades, Upgrades should come in the form of unlocking rims, tires, rim/tire sizes, engine upgrades (such as better turbos, exhausts etc..)

I liked the GT1 reward system best :)

GT2 was too easy.

Here's another one more from me:

Modify the awards system in the Arcade Mode to something slightly more similar to Sega GT's chronicle mode award table.

Like in GT3, the tracks could be split up in sets consisting of five tracks each. These sets could be represented in columns in the table, while the rows could represent track A, B, C, D and E. When a track has been completed, the corresponding square would be filled with a color corresponding to a skill (green = easy, yellow = medium etc.). When an entire column has been filled with green paint (or higher), a car would be unlocked. If all are yellow, both the one for easy and the one for medium are unlocked. If all tracks in a single column has been completed, all cars for that column are unlocked. If there were five tracks per column, that would be twenty columns (based of 100 track rumour). Twenty-times-three equals sixty cars. In addition, if a row is filled up in the same manner as mentioned above, cars for that row is unlocked in the same style. Five-times-three equals fifteen. So then it's at seventy-five award cars. When all tracks have been completed at highest skill, a car is awarded both for the arcade mode and the GT mode.

Maybe a lot of cars, but it would ensure variation in the arcade mode. If you have ten cars per class from the start, it would end up with different 126 cars for the arcade mode in the end.

Good topic. Games that reward you are fun. It extends the life-span hugely, expecially if you don't knwo how or when you'll be given a treat, but you know there're plenty out there to find. You could quite easily have all sorts of unknown parameters littered throughout the game that surprise you with a little (or big) reward for exceptional driving skill over the course of a lap race, a championship or even a wholetournament. Wouldn't it be lovely if GT4 rewarded more than just the combination of mild pace + persistance necessary to beat it's very best AI with a variety of prizes other than just cars? You could have all sorts of rewards: Old style helmets (like the darth vader one's from the 80's or just a pair of biggles goggles), coloured/reflective visors, unique paint job's, LM wheel colours/types, and how about soem nice colourful +interesting race number decals that show up (and remain) on your car when you get to the finals of really competitive online tournaments hosted by Sony.

Gran Turismo should reward the gamer who somehow manages to pull off a certain score in a Porsche 917 in a drift tournament with a perfectly set up Elan S4 sprint complete with an LM paint job and a set of unique tyres developed for drifting.
To the guy who notices that the entry rules of the Corvette Stingray Cup allow a Jag E-type and bothers to make the effort to win it for King and Country, GT4 should say "Good lad! Someone give this man a piece of cake" or equivalent thereof (a nice green C-type would do).

This is the sort of thing I would love to see, but know I won't (especially in GT4). Unfortunately in all their brillious fabulance, the area GT games (especially 3) are found wanting, is imagination. ('cept for the original concept of teh whole series i suppose: for that I'm still grateful. Well done Kaz, pat on the back.)

I don't want to see prize cars being thrown at me like they were in GT2, that ruined the games lifespan for me especially when I got to the GT All stars race at Red rock valley. GT3 was the best balance ith the exeption of the beginner GT world cup and the Amature GT world cup, for some reason you got 10,000Cr for winning a 2 lap race in the beginner cup and you still only got 10,000Cr for winning a 5 lap race in the amature. But GT3 was the best balance imo.

I played MCO from Jan 2002 until it's demise last August. It was the most fun I've ever had with a racing game. People seem to judge it my the inferior graphics, but tuning was the real deal. Start with a stock car, buy carbs, headers, springs, shocks, tires.....from a list of 100's of available parts. No two cars were alike. Hmmmm 300lb springs or 310? 345's or 325's on aluminum or steel wheels? Those were the days!

There should be an RPG element to winning races. A set prize car+ prize money or choose to gamble your car and money for a random item.
Example:

You just placed first in the "M power" champoinship. The set prize cars are either a 2003 M3 CSL or 2001 M3 GTR and 50,000cr. You can choose to keep the car and money or choose the random item option. With this option you could get a rare car like a BMW 507 or its new verison the Z8. Rare cars can only be won this way. Also you could end up getting 2000-100,000cr or some unwanted car.

Other items could be rims or parts.

We can only hope that GT4 captures a bit of that magic. It only makes sense that the one game that blows others way in terms of parts available, tuning options, rare parts and cars, and a truly player run community is discontinued. I didn't like muscle and classic domestic cars much before then but I had a new respect for them after.

i think after each cup or tourney or championship, you will get a screen up saying "DO YOU WANT TO ATTEMPT TO DOUBLE YOUR WINNINGS?" I f you say yes, you will take part in a race where the computer sets a car for you and the AI will have the exactly same car, an the difficulty will be hard and you have to win the race to double your winnings. if you win you get double your money and another car. BUT if you lose, you lose everything, the money, the car, everything that you won in the championship. how does that sound?

Too arcadish. Nice idea and it could probebly be implemented in some way, but notas an option at the end of every series. Maybe you could have a challenge section where every now and then a driver will challenge you to a race on a certain course. The trick here is you woul have to pay to enter or put your car on the line or even both in some races. The rules for each race would be different, some would be both using the same car, some might be Japanese cars under 2000cc and 400Bhp only ect. The challenges should become available when you do certain things like if you get amximum points in a certain cup or when you have done at least 100 races but got an average position of 2nd or higher ect.

If completing drift "competitions" is required to get 100% in GT4, I will never hit 100%. I am not interested in drift "compitition" at all.

I'm not interested in doing 10 laps of the test track in a Yaris but I did it, if it's a form of motorsport which it is why sould that not be included in the main game. Rally racing is in and everyone does that, drag racing was going to be in GT2 and no one had problems with that, the whole idea of a 100% complete status is that you complete the game 100%, do you people not realise that, if you didn't have to complete everything to get 100% it wouldn't be 100% complete would it.

I just still have a bad teste in my mouth regarding drfiting competitions due to NSFU. I hated every second of them.

Which is funny becuase I used to drift and fishtail my old Cougar all the time after I started driving. I guess I HAVE changed in the last 14 years.

Drifting in GT4 will be like drifting in any race in GT4 only you'll be given points for the drift's. It won't be anything like the drift copetitions in NFS:U. But I'm not over keen on drifting myself but I'll still do it in GT4.

Well, let's not even compare Gran Turismo to Need For Speed, ok? It's just disrespectful. The thing is, NFSU was made for our market, and the drifting was implemented half-assed as a gimmick. GT is made first for the Japanese market, and drifting is more well established, maybe almost to the point where someone who said they raced for a living might be asked, "Grip or drift". It will be much more legitimate, and something tells me the rear tires won't smoke when you smash the gas in a front wheel drive car. I don't know, I think of drift scoring similar to skateboarding scoring. If Tony Hawk can have some semblance of accurate scoring, so can Gran Turismo.

What I would want in the "drift" competitions would be a guide that tells you what will get you points, BUT NO MULTIPLIERS ADDING UP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN. I don't want there to be any points. I want a scale. I remember in Cool Boarders 2, they implemented a scheme like this for the half pipe. It was hard to get a really good score because you only knew vaguely what the judges were looking for. This would make the drift sessions more lasting, as you would have to find what the judges want, instead of them spoon feeding you what you have to do.

Edit: I guess what I'm trying to say is, no Tony Hawk Pro Skater style anything in this game, then the drifting will just be a gimmick. No Kudos, no anything, just a score after you are done.

But remember NFSU was more of no wait it was an arcade game.. and GT is a simulation... so true you cant compare them both. But for NFSU to add the multipliers 1x, 2x 3x etc... was more for the fun factor in it, true It proably wasnt done right but all I know is for a quick fix I had fun with it personally, why you ask well like I said its an arcade game and its made to have fun... All I know is GT4, if they do use it, will be a much better method but hey you never know...

About the 100% completion well I dont have the time to do the endurance races so I didnt do them well I tried raceing one and I was maybe half way and had to go out so i turned the tv off and when I came back the PS2 was off so I asked who turned it off and my mom did so yea never bothered again lol... oh well guess i'll never reach the "finish line" ;)

Yes, this is how it should be.

I am actually looking forward to the drifting competitions in GT4. I very much doubt it will be an arcadey race. I would expect them to do it as it is done in real life: ie. cars do small, individual runs through track sections consisting of 3 or 4 corners. I think that's how they do it anyway.
