Ky has already confirmed he wants it to be similar to the D1 GP.

If anyone knows about me, then you may know that I am a late bloomer to drifting, but if you ask me, after seeing episodes of "Initial D" and playing GT3 with drift settings, I actually think drifting is fun. And much respect to Kazunori Yamauchi for making a big deal out of this. Of course, if I wanted to pick out certain cars, I'd go back to "Initial D" and race either an AE86, an RX-7, a black R32 Skyline (reminiscent of that dude from the "Night Kids" gang), or whatever. Hell, I'd drift out an Esperante GT1! I think drifting is fun. And if that gets into a rewards program, I say, "So what?" I say have some fun. It's not like a contest where you take a Supra GT500 and pimp it out with neons, color-shifting paint, air suspension, DVD systems, or whatever (expect negative reactions to this sentence, John...).

But in terms of rewards, someone mentioned chances to double your winnings. That reminds me of "Super Mario RPG." I remember beating a boss, when tried to double my winnings, and when I had the chance, I lost all my money winnings. Damn shame. But to me, Don't make a racing game a game about "winner takes all," at the expense of losing your car. If you want a car to go, you sell that car whenever you're ready. Or what I used to do, I take a not-really powerful car, win some races, then "gamble" on it by looking for a more poowerful car within my by budget and sell my old car if the "gamble" is successful.

As a final note, I got the reward idea about "complete these objectives" based on "Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution." VF4:E had objectives ranging from "knock down your opponent," all the way up to "win 10 matches in a row without a Ring Out." Okay, that's all. Reply.

i think everytime you win a race you should be given an autographed copy of Seabiscuit. Everytime you win a series they should mail you a life-size picture of jonathon taylor thomas, and for ever liscense test you pass you should recieve 3 granola bars and a gift certificate to arby's.

That sounds exactly like drifting in NFSU, not the *real* drift competitions but you were awarded points for power sliding in normal events.

Arby's? I prefer either Subway, or with some REAL money, Jason's Deli, here in Houston, TX.

I think being rewarded for doing well in any game is special and helps keep the fun going. Gran Turismo 4 will be a fun game, so why not make things enjoyable? A cool feature for doing impressive would be a special "Pick Your Prize" option after winning races. A way to make it fun is to have instead of cars, prizes. So you pick between one of five cards. You don't know what is behind the cards, but it will be a reward, not a trap. So if you pick a card, what you could win can vary between:

-new car
-more money
-an engine swap to something more powerful (could it happen in GT4?)
-double or even triple overall prize winnings
-win a rare car
-get invited to a special one-on-one race

You can make rewards... just rewards, or make it fun. If this idea was implemented, imagine the playability of the game to have surprises in a racing game!

Then you didn't get what I meant, I was referring to the cars control, in NFSU the cars handelled differently in the drift tracks than in the races but in GT4 the cars will still handle the saem in the drift races as the normal races, there isn't going to be any arcade style drifts it will all be realistic. And about the points, real drifting awards drivers with points for their drifts, the points give depend on speed, angle and in some competitions how close to the other car you are, the only thing is that you don't know how many points you have until the end of your run.

Oh ok, well yeah I did miss your point then, sorry.

Rewards = :) As long as they are GOOD ones. Now while I'm at it, let me lose in "Pro Race Driver." Sons of... well, you know what I mean.

In case anyone wants to talk about a Reward system either after each race or championship, I've updated this topic for discussion. GT4 will probably have more Easter Eggs than most other racing games. Maybe you can unlock Kazunori's personal rides tuned with 400 or more horsepower! Well... that may not happen, but what rewards system would you want to implement if you are Polyphony Digital (or more commonly used, "PD")?

Does placing matter in drift competitions too?

I.e. you're all racing around a circuit and you get a number of points for finishing first but you might've done less drifting so actually get 2nd?!

I did feel a bit during GT3 that you got given far too many cars. It was a bit predictable knowing that once you've won the Yaris championship, you'd win another Yaris. Maybe they should have given you a new Celica instead.
I think they should stop handing out cars at the end of individual races, and only hand out money. But for any championships I'd like to see cars and money handed over to the winning driver. This simulates real life racing a bit closer IMO, as you do get some single make race series handing over a brand new car to the championship winner. Also maybe a clean sweep award would be nice touch during a championship, or instead of that a small cash prize for setting the fastest lap during a race.

Cheers

I remember in GT1 you got money for getting pole position in the race... Was that still the case in GT3?

I never did qualifying as it was always a bit more fun to blast the opposition from the back of the grid!!

C.

Yeah that was sadly lacking in 3, and 2 if memory serves.

Twas the only reason I ever did qualifying... I do remember though that the computer seemed to be a lot better in qualifying than during the race!!

Maybe that was cos you never actually saw them and PD just set you some times to beat!!

Giving away cars easy... in GT3? Too many whacks to the head you took? Cars were given easily in GT2 in my view. And if you ask me, you take any car you can get to expand your garage. And even if you don't need the car, you can at least test it out to see if you like it. Gran Turismo 2 gave out many cars for success in racing. And to me, I liked that. So don't tell me that GT3 gave away cars too easy. It wasn't like GT3 had enough cars to actually be given out for each race. So to me, GT2's rewards was fine. GT3's rewards could have been better. Maybe there should have been bonus money handed out, like if you win a championship outright. Especially when you are starting out, you'll need every advantage you can get. Then it's your turn to decide when it is the right time to step up. I can recall GT2 when I was doing very well with a 1993 Toyota Supra. And I was winning a few races, until I decided to step up. And in so, I challenged the 80s Car Cup and won a BIG win at SSR5 and bagged an R30 Skyline Silouhette. Big and ugly as it was, it was a capable racer.

Anyhow, the reward system for GT4. Have you any ideas?

Maybe they could develope sometype of reward system that pays out more to the underdogs. Meaning if you have less power, or less race parts that you get a bigger prize. It would not necessarly have to be applied to all events, perhaps they have a seperate race section. Just think it would give a incentavie to try and use differnt cars on the same event. With GT3, I fall into the category of not that much time to race. This means that to make the most use of my time, I usually choose to race the events which will produce the most results. So for GT3 the european - amaueter, and now red emblem races are most likely what I do the most. Not because they are the best, but because they are some of the fastest cash earners. GT2 was a good fit for me, sure it still had thoes races that gave you an abudance of cash for selling the prize car. After I had a certain amount of decent cars and cash, then it was not necessarily about the pay-out after that but more for the fun. I had a lot of fun seeing what the least horse power car I could take on the last race of 80's sports car and still win. Anyway I guess I would rather race a hard 10 or twenty lap race and have the chance of winning some decent prizes, but for the casual player like me just do not have the time to race say 10 races at 10 laps or more a piece, will at least not enough time to do it very often.

I didn't read this whole thing, but I just want to say: What the hell happened to the pole position bonus!? I was so disappointed when I qualified first and got no money for it like in GT1.

Ya the PP bonus needs to come back... give us a reason to qualify ;)

as for bonus cars... i didn't mind the amount of cars in GT3, but the random spinning thing was garbage... might be interesting if you unlock a list of cars and you then pick the car you want from that list. And not on a race by race basis but an overall basis... ie you win the Sunday Cup, you get car A, B, C unlocked and get to pick 1 from the list. When you go on and win the Clubman you unlock car D, E, F but you can pick from A-F as your prize.

There was also some talk about picking b/w $ or a car... not a bad idea, maybe though less $ if you select the car option... you always wanna get those Cr's. Would also be cool if you got random cash bonuses based on performance (like 10 wins in a row, sponsors give you a 10,000 cr bonus for being cool) or something like that.

phantasm
bonus for being cool

rofl...

Am I the only one who winds up with 14 million dollars by the end of the game? I didn't feel we got underdone in the money or the car stakes.

I think that it's more a point to do with at the beginning of the game...

But I don't think that prizes are really a problem... although I would like to see a bonus for all wins in a series... that would stop me quitting the last race when I get bored!!

Well what if PD came up with a real life simulation of GT4. Meaning, you had to buy a new set of tires once the ones you used were bald. That would mean the price for the tires would have to come down to real levels. Instead of race tires costing you an one time price of 23,000 credits, now they would be 500 to 1,000 credits for each tire, giving you the ability to buy tires in sets or in singles.

The same goes for body parts, such as suspension, enginge, battery, wheels, etc... Then, by winning a race, you not only win credits, but parts for the car you are using.

What about free tickets to the car wash? Free oil change coupons? Free racing uniforms, that's if they would cost us anything, but I don't see why they would be free.

I seem to remember that in GT3 it said when you bought the tyres that you were paying for a lifetime service of tyres... meaning that you were paying for all the tyres that you were gonna use... ever!!

Yeah pity some cars are only used to win one or two championships

If they implement a more realistic tyre wear system I'd prefer a system like that Solid Lifters mentioned.
