Ok, everything around here has slowed up abit since the PAL version anouncement, and those lucky enough to be in a region where the release is imminent, seem to be having a sabbatical... or it all just could be the calm before the storm.

Anyhow, GT means different things for different people, some want more cars, others online play, but no matter what one thing is certain you won't satisfy everyone.

Now I'm going to put different scenario's to you, for each scenario it concentrates on the inclusion and/or improvement of that part of the game. The downside is for EVERY OTHER feature in the game remains at the same level.

So if you choose, more Manufacturers/Cars, this means no more tracks, AI remains at present level & fields remain at 6, and online play isn't developed.

--==// So here goes... \\==--

Increase Manufacturers/Cars: Quite simply more Manufacturers, more cars. Inclusion of the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and complete lineups of the Manufacturers already present.

Increase Number of Tracks: We see the inclusion of more Real Life tracks, Spa, Le Mans, Bathurst, Indianapolis, alongside more PD created 'fantasy' tracks.

Online Play: You're able to go online and challenge the world, but only with what you've been able to obtain with your progress of the game itself.

AI Improvement: The AI gets up to levels where you're no longer able to dominate, they're at your level, you have to complete the race with basically no mistakes to win. Every race is a challenge.

Increased Fields: You're now racing against 18-20 car fields, some races are with all cars in your class, other races like enduro's include both higher and lower class cars, where you may not win the race but you're to win your class.

Dynamic Weather: Weather is random, for a race, and the conditions can change during the race. A dry race can become wet and then dry again, all possibilities can occur. Day/Night transitions.

Car Enhancement: Bodykits, Racing Mods, aftermarket tuning, car conversions (i.e. FWD --> RWD) and the like.

More 'Modes': In Car view, Career Mode, Replay editing, able to make MPEG's, full telemetry of race/free run sessions, Track Editor (Design your own track), Damage.

Just remember whatever you choose, all other aspects of the gameplay remain at present level.

So whats important to you???

Car Enhancement takes number one for me. More tunning to an already impressive amount of cars is ok by me. everything else would fall behind

2: Increase Manufacturers/Cars
3: Dynamic Weather
4: AI Improvement
5: More 'Modes'
6: Increase Number of Tracks
7: Increased Fields
8: Online Play

AI.

A racegame needs good AI. Why would you race agains dumb idiots? What is the fun of that? But it's a fact that we need to live with that. There is 1 race game with good AI and everyone ignored it ; Grand Prix Legends. The whole game was good, good engine, great physics, great handling (difficult!) and damn.. great AI. If you started the race and you lost control in the first corner you will see the other cars trying to avoid you instead of just "bump" you.

The perfect way to test AI : stand still on 3 places on a track. Watch if they bump into you without even trying to avoid you. If they bump without moving it's BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD AI. (No, DTM1/2 / Pro race driver / V8 supercars 1/2 (damn, that game has 3 names :/) doesn't have a good ai)
And i don't like that but you can't do anything about that. I didn't like GT2/3 because the ai sucked (in 1 it was good, we didn't know good AI at that time) but nowadays there isn't 1 racer with good AI...

I really hope that GT4 will be the 2nd game with GOOD Ai. But the latest vids show the same crappy GT3 AI... *sigh*

Egghead is right, I went with AI, becuase its boring to see the cars in a uniformal line and not go out of the ordinary. Another game with good AI is Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero(Ricey) but a fun game with exelent AI, they try to block and pass and maneuver when ever possible.

Here's how it goes for me...

8) Online Play: Besides the fact the high-speed internet isn't available to all, online gives up too many other 'variables', people ruining your race by using you as a break etc Amoungst friends who race honest, has high appeal. Stuff like WRS provide ample 'simulation' of online ATM.

7) Car Enhancement: Not much into bodykits, and dramatic butchering/conversion of cars. I like the ability to be able to add racing parts, turbo's and tune cars as we have now, that's enough for me.

6) More Modes: Things like Track Editors, and telemetry have appeal for me. Damage, actual Career modes, Mission/Drag/Photo modes are ho-hum. B-Spec could provide some fun.

5) Dynamic Weather: Weather can be set to different conditions, weather really doesn't have to be Dynamic, although for enduro's it would be a nice effect to have the sun go down or come up. Having to do choices between slicks or inters in light drizzle would be interesting also.

This is where it gets harder...

4) AI Improvement: With 6 cars and the level that AI is presently this becomes quite a bore in enduro's, being laps ahead provides no challenge. Racing as your life depended on it against kick-ass AI would be neat.

3) Increase Manufacturers/Cars: As much as I'd love to have more cars and Manufacturers especially the 'big 3' that are missing, I'm a realist, if say GT4 happens to have 750 cars in the end, I really only want to play with about 10% of them!!! But variety is the spice of life...

2) Increased Fields: As I see it if you had to race against 19 other cars it'd be more of a challenge, especially since in GT we always start at the back of the grid. In enduro's you wouldn't be out by yourself for such long periods, you'd either be lapping traffic or competing against the AI. If larger fields meant that 5-6 cars were a higher classed car, it could provide a 'quasi improved AI' and you could always try to improve a place or two against them.

1) Increased Number of Tracks: To me the more the merrier, give me Le Mans, Bathurst, Spa, Pikes Peak, Sugo, Indy... nothing better than hitting a new track and trying to get quicker and quicker on it. Then with different cars... Things like the aforementioned WRS provides reason to try get 110% out of a track...

Disclaimer: I must admit that ranking positions changed during the writing of this post!!!

Now, this is a nice question. So let me get this straight. You're asking what would we prefer from more manufacturers to modes. And actually, all of them are good choices. The only one I wouldn't touch up on is online play, since I'm not an online gamer. If I had to choose, it would be more modes. Why so? This is because I feel GT4 (prepare to get argued at, John...) has enough cars and tracks. I'm confident that AI probably won't be as much of a pain in the backside as people would claim it is. I think the worst AI in a racing game has to be "Pro Race Driver." Don't tell me about GT AI until you play "Pro Race Driver." Every race is almost like trying to avoid gunfire by those Haitian gangs in "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" (worse after you sprayed up your car in THEIR territory and you're trying to evade the police). Increased fields is still a good option, as long as there's a way to get more cars on track without sacrificing frame rate or forcing lockups and crashes.

So more modes mean that there will be more ways to play the game. Sometimes, it's even okay to re-race a championship event in a different car or in a different situation. When you have more modes to play around with, it enhances replay value. The only thing left is execution. Remember, a game has to have a lot of features to offer, but they are no good if they are not executed properly and/or effectively.

Increased fields with different classes gets my vote. Even if the AI isn't improved, there can still be a challenge had if you enter in a lower class car, and race the classes above you (say, enter an S2000, but you'll be giving the Corvettes and TVRs a go).

Well id have to say only 4 of those elements in the following order.
1/ Online, it makes all the question of AI irrelevant.
2/ AI if you cant have the opportunity to take on the best through online, at least make some of the game a challenge.
3/ More tracks, all the old tracks would be to much to deal with, if no improved ai or online challenge, theyve been seen so many times before you just have to have more tracks to refresh the experience.
4/ If you cant have any of the above, then more cars would add a little something, but would only go so far to saving what would undoubtbly be a lame title.

All the other aspects wouldnt really matter if the above were developed.

More tracks. Rank number one.

I would be fine with the cars of GT3, but with the new tracks of GT4 more then I would like the reverse. You know, the tracks of GT3 and the cars of GT4. I'm really sick of the tracks. However, cars are a very close second. And I mean VERY CLOSE. But, I would love to see small tracks, like the ones in GT1 and GT2. Small, medium and large tracks would be great.

New Cars? Yes, it is up there, very close to new tracks. I rank it second.

Performance Parts? Yes, this is third. Changing the parts, even for the race cars so I can make them faster or slower is favorable, and s something I want badly. Racing mods would be great, but it looks like we just get the racing car version of whatever, but that's OK. Ranked third.

Dynamic Weather? Yeah, because it would be great to start Le Mans at sundown in cloudy weather. Then, move into night, followed by rain with thunder and lightning. Then, dawn with the rain stopping. Then, clouds disapate and rainbows appear. Then, the sun shines brightly with clear blue skies as I cross the start/finish line for the last time. Awesome. I rank it fourth.

More modes? Sounds like a cool idea we get B-Spec mode. So, maybe something else to chomp my teeth on sounds great.

AI? Nah, since I always come in first. And, if I don't, I use a faster car. Most of the time in GT3, the AI and I stick together for no more than two or three laps anyway. So, AI is no big deal. Plus, I've become use to PD's lack of proper attention to it, anyway. Rank number 6.

Increased fields? Yes, but not if the AI doesn't improve. I rank this as second to last (7).

Online? I don't care for this at all. I rank it last (8).

This would be my prefered order:

1) Online Play: Makes up for crap AI & would make the game far more fun racing against human opponents whenever you please, opposed to the usual split screen races (Which whilst fun, you can't see much ahead & the graphics get worse). Its too much hassle to haul around TVs & PS2s for LAN games.

2) AI Improvement: Would improve the single player element considerably, no more crap on-rails AI woo!

3) Dynamic Weather: I want to race in the rain during the daytime, on my favourite circuits!

4) Increase Manufacturers/Cars: Everybody likes cars right?

5) Car Enhancement: As long as the 'enhancements' aren't NFS:U style.

6) More 'Modes': In car view would be nice, but probably fairly unused, damage I assume is more part wear etc... which would be cool. A track editor would also be very nice, but the rest I don't give a monkeys about.

7) Increase Number of Tracks: Aslong as there are enough decent circuits I'm not that bothered, especially if dynamic (or atleast plenty of preset) weather was in.

8) Increased Fields: I don't really care, although on tracks like the 'Ring I can see this as important. If the AI is stupid they will just get in the way, if they are intelligent 6 is enough.

:)

Iwould like to see more cars and the dynamic scenery of the track surrondings.....also I want to see if they will have a Nextel Cup car as an option i.e. Dodge Intrepid....

shame i cant vote for them all but if it has to be one then im going weather, its the only thing important missing from GT

No offense but this, what do you want in gt4 business is annoying. Come on people, you know you want get what you want because gt4 is on the ps2 and we all know the ps2 is no power house. Some of you are just asking for too damn much, rotten *#(&(^(&#s. Seriously, I'll be happy with what I got in gt4 and wait till the ps3 to complain; I just want the damn game to be released. It's reported gt4 will do day to night during endo races but lets hope that's true. The process of day to night is very simple. What's important to me, is the driving experience, I want a realistic driving experience in the game. I'd love to hit the Le mans or Nurb in a nice little beetle or bmw and enjoy myself :sly:

I picked increased fields. 6 cars is kind of low, and it would be fantastic to see 20 cars on track. With that many cars, it would be a challenge to get to the front even with (exaggerated by?) rudimentary AI. And with the longer tracks we're getting like Nürburgring, 6 cars is really sparse.

Next is online play, then AI. Online first because, who needs AI when you have humans? AI above the other crap, because it would be the best core gameplay enhancement compared to the other stuff, imo.

After that, car enhancement; primarily visual mods. Not crappy bolt-ons, but racing mods and custom paint and decals. We've already go a lot of performance mods, and we could use visual mods to make our car look unique when we're online. (btw, you didn't mention engine swaps under this heading.)

Then more 'modes.' You've got a lot covered there...

Next would be more tracks. We reportedly already have selectable weather effects, and making them dynamic isn't that important to me. More tracks is better than more cars, because 650 cars is already a rediculously high amount (and the aforementioned car modification will keep me more than busy with then, not to mention racing mods pretty much making new cars for each road car), and I think racing the same car on a different track is preferable to racing a the same track in a different car.

Dynamic weather would make things interesting and you'd have to think on your feet some more (see above). Finally, more cars would be nice, but 650 is plenty for now.

I voted improved AI. Someone mentioned Grand Prix Legends earlier. I agree, that game has the best racing AI. And it was released in 1998!!! The GPL AI is trying to block you, trying to braking later than you, making clever overtaking maneuvers, not just ramming cars off the track. Very clever AI, great fun and challange to play against it, and it was made almost 7 years ago! It would be great, if the GT4 AI would be on the same level as the good ol' GPL AI, but it just a dream.

Close second is more cars: this game badly needs Ferraris, Maseratis, Porsches and Lambos. OK, copyright issues, so this one is also just a dream... But some more euro classics would have been great. 25 different versions of the Nissan Skyline, but no VW Golf II GTi16V? 15 kinds of Mitsu Lancer, but no Ford Sierra Cosworth? 10 different Subaru Imprezas, but no Lotus-Opel Omega?

Third is more tracks: Spa, Monza, Mosport, Zandvoort. (OK, I've played too much GPL :))

Online play: I don't need it. From 10 online races 9 has a big crash in the first corner. 1 of 10 online racers thinks it's great fun to drive in the wrong direction on the track. 5 thinks it's OK to ram and bump other racers. 7 driver out of ten cannot wait for a proper opportunity to overtake, instead of that they are trying to win the race in the first lap. (3 of them tries to win the race in the first corner! :) In the case you win, at least on of them starts to *****ing "you had XYZ car, that was easy", or "you cheated!!!". I dont need this "experience".

Car modifications: no need body-kits, and ricer stuff. Souped-up Mercedes 300SL?? No way in hell! But it would be nice to have multiple liveries for race cars. The mechanical tuning was okay in GT3. Sorry 'bout my bad English.

My Vote goes to increased car field. With the longer tracks, which means longer races, it would help make the race more interesting. It seems to me the A.I. is a long way off from being able to simulate a human racer. We can only hope that the A.I. will be somewhat better in GT4. With the 700 plus cars, there should be a wide range of cars for just about any type of event. It would be kool going up against say 12 or more cars of the same horsepower etc. Also I hope that most race events have the A.I. driving random cars ( assuming there are plenty for to choose from for that event ). That way if and when you race that event again it will be a new experience.

My second choice would be car mods. Really enjoyed all the "R" mods in GT2.
If we ever get a full paint shop that would add alot of replay value. Especially with photo mode etc. Changing car appearance with wheels, paint, maybe a few body modifications etc. Maybe GT5, ENGINE SWAPS, DIFFERNT TIRES SIZES, ETC.

Third Choice would be Online, if they do it have way right, meaning where players can set-up the races with differnt race restrictions, and if online worked somewhat flawless then it would be my first choice.

AI.
It would be great to be able to actually have a decent race in GT instead of you just driving around a track and the AI miles behind you.
We already have a good number of tracks and cars and the other things dont really worry me.

I think the modes are what make a game diverse and great. The selection of cars would be a close second purely because it will be hard to actually use them all, and most really ont be that much different apart from their looks. I also hope the AI will be improved to give us more of a challenge than GT3.

1. Increase in Tracks: I want lots and lots of real circuits and street courses. Espcially historical tracks that no longer exist, like early '30s-'60s GP courses and city-to-city courses (which would never happen, because there would be way too many things to model that the player would only ever see once).
2. Increase in Modes: I would love to see a "Design-Your-Own-Championship Mode", where you pick the courses, laps, eligible cars, field size, etc. And maybe a "Quick Race" mode, where you again can pick course, laps eligible cars, field size, and weather.
3. Field Size: 6 is not enough.
4. Dynamic Weather: Maybe not necessarily dynamic, but it should be random for each race in a championship, so everytime you race it, the whole season might be rainy, or snowy, or overcast, or bluebird sunny skies, or a little of everything.
5. AI Improvement: Sure, maybe even some sliders, so you can adjust opponents characteristics, like attitude, skill, intelligence, weight (it matters, especailly in really light cars), experience, etc.
6. More Cars: I know he says that in our hypothetical, everything that we didn't pick would remain constant, but I doubt they would ever not add some cars, besides, there already are a ****load.
7. Car Enhancement: Really all I want here is an ability to repaint cars.
8. Online: Not really necessary, just make it easier to hook up multiple ps2's and allow two people to race not only each other, but also some AI opponents.

I guess my response would fall under car enhancement as I personally can't see any other category to include it it…..and that is in-game realism specifically talking about racing on a real race track (Example: Laguna Seca in GT3) and setting faster lap-times that exceed that of real racing cars!

close 2nd....more cars/tracks.....Yeah, I'd love to see more race inspired Ferrarri's, Lambo's and Porsches but I'd feel just as happy if more realistic tracks were used!

EDIT: For what it's worth, GT3 has been the ONLY game I've seen to date (Including Toca 2 & ANY game on the PC) that clearly gives the racer the sheer realism of just how steep that corkscrew is at Laguna Seca...both leading up to and after the corkscrew! I hope GT4 only betters the realism of the other real courses as its predcesor did!

The corksrew is certainly one section that takes lots of practice and getting used to. I remember vividly taking the viper many a many times down the corscrew from the license test in GT2. The hills on the test road course from GT3 are the ones that in a since took my breath away, taking the skyline over the hills on the license test for the first few times. I wander what will be the first breath taking experience in GT4.
