OK Saint and Solid,
tell us what that means for a regular TV owners, both NTSC and PAL. Will any kind of those enhancements going to be visible on normal 100Hz TV, or is it made especially for seeing on plasmas or HDTV sets?
1080i upscaling is not possible on a regular TV, but it's helpful on an HDTV that doesn't have "true" 480i (meaning, it uses an internal scaler to upscale it to 1080i)
this does not mean more resolution for you HDTV owners, but some of you may preffer 1080i instead of 480i if your set is one of those that takes a native 480i signal and upscales it to your HDTV's native resolution (many new HDTV's these days don't have tue 480i, but they upscale it by default, this actually worsens the image in ps2 games)
my Sony direct view "HDTV" monitor is one example, it does accept 480i, but it always upscales it, this helps video somewhat, but makes ps2 games look worse. so if the PS2 can do a better job upconverting GT4, i'm all for it, heck, i allready ordered some cheap component cables for my PS2 when i read the news...
(wich i had negleted to buy because of the lack of progressive scan games).
in any case, this isn't big news, it just means that people with crappy HDTV scalers may get a decent improvement in picture quality, but a "true" 480i TV will show less artifacts than any scaled up videogame, scaling works great in video, it's just not the case with videogames.
