Click on the GT4 Japan link in my signature. Click on DOWNLOADS. Click on TVCM at the top. They aren't working for me, maybe they're too new. Do they work for you?

EDIT: Scroll down to post #13. Alpha has the videos ready to go!

Yeah, that info was revealed already in this thread: Update on japanese GT4 site!

The videos didn't work for me either, so I saved them locally with a tool to capture video streams called "offline explorer".

Cheers,
the Interceptor

Videos work fine... can someone translate the new "about" section please? it says something about 1080i

I saw that thread two days ago, but it was about new cars and not the new videos. Posting about new videos in that thread was a little too hidden since people wont click on it anymore since they knew what it was about cars.

It couldn't have been about the new videos, cause the japanese website was updated just now. I added that information a few hours ago, and when I open the GT4 forum I see the threads with new messages highlited, so if a thread with that name is highlited, I'd at least take a look because there might be some news.

I'm sorry but I refuse to open a new thread when there is one with exactly the same subject that I can use.

Hmm Videos dont work for me either - when I click open it just dissapears... oh well not to worry only 7 days till Japaense release date when there will be lots of new videos and info.

Above is the error message I keep getting. I've check everything it said to, and no luck. Anybody got ideas?

it's no biggie, the videos are just variations of the GT4 comercial, the only thing that varies is the last 2 seconds wich are gameplay (the comercial is exactly the same exept for that).
don't know why they went to all the trouble of posting those "different" videos that only differ for about 1 or two seconds... nothing new either.

Firewall blocking the Media Player? Need a newer version of the Media Player maybe?

Take a look at the last one! Now it's pretty much the same commercial, but it's twice as long, with some new scenes.

i did take a look at the last one, the comercial is cool and all, but only 2 seconds of game footage, so who cares? -_-;;

I'll grab all the links for everyone and post here, they are streaming files as per usual so Net Transport should best be used to download them.

Alpha, you're my hero! *smooch*

Ah, it's just the same commercial as before, but with new, and different, in game video endings.

Damn, those short clips of the cars at the end, they sound soooo nice, I hope the cars sound nice and phat in the game!!! I found the cars sounded a bit lame in GT3.

We all did. But, the overall sound, which includes wind noise and the like, sounded a lot better than in GT2.

In the other thread I asked people to come here to discuss the new stuff, so don't wonder where this comes from:
ADBAN
hmmm

5.1ch surround
proglessive(525i)output
Hi-vision(1080i)output
Does it say if 5.1 surround, 525i and 1080i are ingame?

Cheers,

if some kind of 1080i were to make it in the game, would probably just be 480i scaled up to a 1080i timing, this is why i'm intrested in knowing exactly what is said there, can someone please translate?

Yeah, it's just deinterlaced (scaled) 480i. Hi-Vision is the leading high-def scale conversion that is used in current DVD players with "high-def" output. It looks better than 480i and 480p, but not that much better. It's not as noticible as with REAL 1080i High-definition images.

OK Saint and Solid,

tell us what that means for a regular TV owners, both NTSC and PAL. Will any kind of those enhancements going to be visible on normal 100Hz TV, or is it made especially for seeing on plasmas or HDTV sets?

1080i upscaling is not possible on a regular TV, but it's helpful on an HDTV that doesn't have "true" 480i (meaning, it uses an internal scaler to upscale it to 1080i)

this does not mean more resolution for you HDTV owners, but some of you may preffer 1080i instead of 480i if your set is one of those that takes a native 480i signal and upscales it to your HDTV's native resolution (many new HDTV's these days don't have tue 480i, but they upscale it by default, this actually worsens the image in ps2 games)

my Sony direct view "HDTV" monitor is one example, it does accept 480i, but it always upscales it, this helps video somewhat, but makes ps2 games look worse. so if the PS2 can do a better job upconverting GT4, i'm all for it, heck, i allready ordered some cheap component cables for my PS2 when i read the news...
(wich i had negleted to buy because of the lack of progressive scan games).

in any case, this isn't big news, it just means that people with crappy HDTV scalers may get a decent improvement in picture quality, but a "true" 480i TV will show less artifacts than any scaled up videogame, scaling works great in video, it's just not the case with videogames.

It's hard for me to tell what you mean when you say "regular TV owners." But, here it goes, anyway.

You must have a TV set with Component input in order to watch 480p or 1080i. It doesn't matter if it's a Plasma, LiCos, LCD or a CRT TV set. If it has the correct input, you're all set. However, some older sets that have component inputs are 480p only. They wont haddle the increased lines of resolution of 1080i. But, not a lot of these TV sets were made or purchased, so I think most of you with component inputs can relax.

It sounds like PAL users will have 525i deinterlaced to 525 progressive. All is needed for you to enjoy that is any TV set with the PAL component input equivelent, which is called RGB in Eupope, I think. You'll need a HDTV set to enjoy the 1080i scale conversion, though, but it can be any type of HDTV set with a component input. EDTV sets, which some Plasma TV sets are, wont display the 1080i image, So, it depends on what you have if you get to watch 1080i or not.

HDTV sets with scalers usually deinterlace the image to 480p only. They wont usually do 1080i. However, some DVD players will. There is not a huge improvement in video quality, but it is somewhat noticible.

On my set 480p conversion and WIdescreen use for GT3 looks fantastic. But, my HDTV set is a top of the line Sony Wega XBR CRT. I've heard from Plasma TV set owners and projetion HDTV set owners that PS2 games look horrible. On my set, they look better. Of course, the jaggies are more noticeble, but a few jaggies don't bother me too much.

Sorry for the stupid question, but is this any different to previous GTs, or did they use 525i / 525p as well?

Thanks!

Yes it will be different, I think. I don't think you PAL users got progressive output before now. So, this should be new. PAL has 525 lines of resolution, while we have 480. But, we have 30hz+30hz output while you have 25hz+25hz.

Here, we NTSC users never had 480p. It was the "widescreen" option that was available to us, and that was it.

hmm, i don't know about true progresive, sounds to me like "upscaled" progresive for me. wich won't looks as good as true progresive scan.

As long as it won't look worse than before, I'm okay with it. I just hope my PAL PS2 will play the japanese version using an RGB cable. I'm not an expert on this issue, but I know that there is a PS2 -> VGA converter out there that only works with the v9 and v10 PS2s (I have a v4) because the older ones can't put out the correct picture format.

EDIT:
I attached a picture of it. It only seems to work with progressive input, so I'm not sure older PS2s will be able to produce 525p.

Cheers,
the Interceptor
