The only disapointing thing about that list is that it is difficult to compare times of certain cars because some are in the wet. Would be interested to see where the 911 turbo, NSX type R and Monaro would be if they had been able to run in the dry but I guess you can't help that great english weather ;)

Nice idea, but the TVR T350 is in the wrong spot, you put it behind cars with slower times on your list.

You got some of the Evos wrong. Firstly, it was the FQ320 that got around in 1'26 flat, not the FQ400. The time for the FQ400 was 1'24.8. So you might want to go over that list again.

*edit* Almost forgot, you didn'tnote the Gallardo's time as being wet.

The official list is here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/powerlaps/

I'd also like to see a map. The way the laps are edited doesn't give a very good idea of the layout. It looks like the whole set is an old airport, so it's probably just some taxiways that they spiced up with the various hay bales and cones.

Here's a map of the track:

http://www.racingcircuits.net/UnitedKingdom/England/Dunsfold.html

The problem is, that the map only shows the driving line.. the two "lines" in the middle are actually on the same part of the track. It basically does a figure-eight, with some crossover, which is why they can't use it for racing (except the occasional "vs" races they do, but those are typically always neck-and-neck, so the crossover isn't an issue).

As for the list, you might want to add the Aston Martin DB9.. while it never made an "official" lap for the show, Jeremy did mention that it got the same 1:27.1 that the Vanquish S did. 'Sup to you.

I just got the idea in my head to make an Excel spreadsheet out of these times. Might even throw in the Celebrity Laps (on a separate sheet).

I'd also like to know when the new series starts... a couple months ago, I'd never even heard of the show, now I can't get enough of it. :) They need to release a Region 1 box set.. "Top Gear: The Complete Series" (starting with the "reimagined" one-hour version in 2002, I suppose.. I've never seen the old, OLD episodes). Or maybe Series Sets or something. I'd buy it, I love that show. :)

Darn. I spent ages copying out the list.:(

The old Top Gear is more like what Fifth Gear is today. Although the old Top Gear unlike the present TG & Fifth Gear featured few 'specials' i.e. stunts etc... but more practical stuff :)

I've watched Top Gear ever since I was a nippa ;)

Just out of curiosity, what is an "ASONE"? It's not exactly something you can just Google (I tried).

There are also several cars on your list here that aren't on the official list on Top Gear's site. Most of them appear to be trackday cars (like the Radical), not road legal and hence, not eligible for the official list, which is for road cars only. A few of them (like the Bimoto TT) appear to be normal road cars, but aren't on the official list. Any ideas?

A nippa? 💡

Caterhams are faster than most cars:)
And it's not even the fastest model.
0-60 in 3.2 agrees.

While we're on the subject of Top Gear lap times, does anyone know if the Stig ever took the Suzuki Liana on a lap? I'd be curious to see how all those celebs stack up to the Stig. :)

It's interesting that the Ford GT is only 3 seconds away from a Ferrari Enzo and for one-fifth of the price.

Thank you, Jedi2016.

On a side note; you would think with all the great circuits in the UK, they would choose one with a little more... depth.

Have they not run an S2000 for that test? I could have sworn they had a time for it on their track in the "Mildly Moist" or something of that nature.

The Radical SR3 is road leagal here in the uk. And in most of Europe.

they did a lap in the sea harrier? :| was it flying?

1/5th price of enzo, yeah the lap time board really puts into perspective how pointless some of the more exotic cars are. once u reach £150k or so, u are into motor racing territory where everything is custom built and carbon-fibred/titanium etc just to get an extra 1 or 2 more seconds.

id love to see some old supercars go round there too, f50, f40, 959, testarossa, mmmm can't think of anymore lol

I'm surprised how long the SL55 AMG took to lap the circuit.

I believe they had it designed with Lotus helping to give a track that'd test all the handling aspects of a car - fast corners, long straights, 90 degree corners; the Hammerhead, for example, is designed to show up understeer in a car.

Would like to see it in Gran Turismo 5 (bit late for GT4, I suspect) as a test track - a la that go-kart circuit in GT2 that I've forgotten the name of.
