Dual Shock 2 Users, what method do you guys use to play with your controller.

Do you use: the directional pad to control your vechile or the analog stick?

Also,

Do you use: the X and square buttons, or do you use the analog controller to control the gas and throttle.

I used to be a analog + X & Square, but lately I have been trying to use both the analog sticks.

What do you pros use?

sry but this is getting better and better

in the forum even the tiniest things are diskust next is probely do you pick your nose during game play or whatdo you drink during the game

I use the directional pad and buttons. I think this is the most accurate way to drive (not most realistic, but most accurate to turn). I dunno, that's my opinion.

Or even 'Can you write English while using GTPlanet Forums ?'

Both analog sticks, have done ever since i played GT2 with a wheel.
It gives me far more control, i can 't use the buttons otherwise I suck.

LOL, yeah DumpValve "like" the Queen's feet! :P

Yo, D-pad and buttons here. (AND automatic!!) I just can't feel natural with dual sticks on the DS2, I've tried and tried. :indiff:

I dunno how anyone could use the buttons and directional pad to accurately get around any of the courses (slamming 100% brake and throttle around turns is rediculous), I used to use the analog sticks for steering, brake, and gas which lets you utilize partial brake and gas but I just got a Driving Force Pro wheel from logitech and there is definately no going back, if you love this game or any other racing game you should get this wheel ($110 from buy.com) very realistic and the force feedback is GREAT!!

In the beginning of playing GT3 I used the D-pad and the X and Square buttons. My thumb used to get numb so I started using both analog sticks and it's been that way since then :)

I use the analog and the buttons. I've tried the dual analog thing and my brain just won't work like that. I end up trying to steer with both. :dunce:

The buttons are analog, if you dont' push on them that hard they don't register 100%. I've gotten quite good at my 80%, 50%, and 20% button push now, I can pretty reliably run it the way I want to, plus everything in between. Its very possible to get smooth input from 20% to 80% (this is the way I do turns, initial gas is 20%, and smoothly run it up until you exit the corner, then its back to 100%).

I personally can't get a feel for the second A-Stick for gas/brake, you can hit all three pedals in real life ( heel-toe technique ).

I'm the very same way. It took me a year to make full use of the pressure sensitivity, and now I can't take another year to get used to the analog stick. I've already taken up manual, Analog sticks and manual are too much for my un-coordinated brain!

I use directional and buttons.

This is why Enthusia and NFSU are a total Garbage Can.

No, i will NOT learn to use that, The game needs to be ergonomic. They forgot that many people suffers from injuries in muscular system because of writing, typing, playing guitars or mounting things with hard screws.

Dumb people of EA and Konami.

WOw... I guess i'm part of the small breed who likes to use the stick and buttons.

I may try both sticks until i can get my hands on a DFP.

Great post though!

D-pad and buttons.

And chase view.

But you try passing me...

analog n' buttons. but my buddies are telling me i am only killing my times by doing that. i should be using the d-pad and the buttons.

Whichever control method works best for you is unlikely to be "killing your times".

In terms of numbers, the fast people can be mainly split up into:
DFP > LDF/Momo > Other Wheel > DS2 full analogue > DS2 one stick > DS2 buttons

That DOESN'T mean you'll be magically quicker going to a DFP.

For road racing or drifting I use a wheel (£20 from Game, no DFP for me :( ) but for the life of me I can't rally with it, so I use the D-Pad and buttons for rallying. I don't feel that the wheel and pedals aren't giving me the immediate response I need for my rallying style (slam the brakesas late as you can and swing the back end round. The more sideways the better :dopey: 👍

Back in GT3, I used the R2 button for gas, L2 for brake, and the right analog for shifting gears, and Dpad for turning.
But GT4 doesnt give you an option for the right analog stick to shift gears, so I use X and triangle for shifting. These are my controls for the DS2 when Im not using the DFP

right stick for throttle and steering
left stick for gear
l1 for throttle when on-off throttle is more suitable (low powered cars etc)
a strange way to use it... I know

no way to use tcr-off cars without analogue

...and my momo is making websters in the other room.....

bloody hell, that damn well confused me, both analogues for me mate, and same thing when drifting.

true old school, rockin man.

D-pad and buttons. I also left-foot brake a fair bit. If you have a DS2 and use analogue for acceleration/brake, you cannot left foot brake and by definition that is an inferior technique for racing. You will be limiting yourself.

Strictly speaking, I would say the 'best' way to use a DS2 would be analogue for steering, buttons for brake/throttle.

I used to use both analog sticks in GT1 & 2 but I now find the pressure sensitive pads in the ds2 far more responsive to use. In fact I wish they were a bit more sensitive so more pressure is required for WOT.

I don't use TC or any driving aids and I quite enjoy the challenge of trying to manually limit wheelspin when accelerating through 1st, 2nd & 3rd :)

btw I turned the vibration features of the dual shock2 off, no need to accelerte the RSI process!

D-pad and buttons for me & always has been since GT1. Although now I use manual gears which helped bring down my times & coupled with GT4s nice driving model makes it more fun. :)

I also take advantage of the fact they are pressure sensitive although my thumb hurts after pressing X for long periods of time. If only the pad has Xbox S style triggers!
