Round 1
Track : Twin Ring Motegi - Road Course 4.80km
Deadline : June 26 @ 11:59PM EST
CLICK HERE to check the time

The talking is over, the real business must now start. After one hell of an intense qualification seeing veilsidebr take the provisionnal pole in GT500 and the ever so popular canadian driver eatsviper4lunch taking GT300, we are guaranteed to see a great spectacle for Round 1. The top 8 cars in GT300 finished within 1 second or less of interval so this really proves the field has been evened up quite well for this 2005 season. The cars are all in formation and this thing should get under way in the next seconds.

Pitting Resume (lap info, tire set used, penalties) :

Wow, what fun ...

I'm sure that I'm going to get really caught up in traffic and have a hell of a time trying to pass the suckers, but it's going to be one hell of an intense ride! Thanks Viper.

So, the pitting resume should include the laps at which we pitted, the tires we used for each stop, and if we had any drive thru penalties, correct? Or do you want refueling info as well?

Correct 👍 Refueling will be done like maybe once pretty fast while changing the tires so it's not really important to name it.

Well, less testing for me to do!

Hmm okay....it doesn't really matter now, because (I hope I'm allowed to say this) I didn't refuel at all! And yes, that does mean I've already run the race. Got lucky on the tire strategy and got it perfect first try! Good thing, because I'm out from early tomorrow until very late Saturday at the earliest and ver late Sunday at the latest. Should I PM you now, since I may not be back before the deadline? Or would it be OK if I sent you Monday morning?

Nope, after the deadline will get you an automatic DNS. If you have something decent right now, well send it now and I'll keep it on the side if you don't submit another one before Sunday. If you do, your new one will replace this one.

ooh the adrenaline n excitement

woooo! that was fun!

I made tons of mistakes though. Did pretty well staying on the track, but got 2 penalty pits, and my tire strategy was all wrong.

Can I post a lap breakdown of events? No times, of course.

LOL!

So how does forced pit entry work? If you go off the track or hit someone it forces you in the pits?? What if you ever so slightly bump against someone or the wall, is that ok?

It's ok if you go off track, no penalty will be forced. If you ram an AI car, you will be forced to pit though. It takes a fairly big hit to trigger the penalty, so light taps are ok, and I believe hard contact from the side is ok too; it's mainly the front end that draws penaltys.

Thank you. So if I spin out, I don't incur any further penalties.

Yes, as long as you don't ram into a wall, which is very hard to do at Motegi. This will probably come into play at Tokyo R246.

yeah you can go ahead, but no times talking what so ever :)

Yeah and about the penalties, like EvO said you don't receive one for a light contact, it really takes something that would damage your car in real life to get the drive through. If you are cautious while passing other cars you shouldn't receive any penalties. Sometimes it's better to slow down and take your time and save one of those penalties even if it does make you loose 2-3 secs on that lap. I mean you decide, it's either 2-3 secs or a 10-15 secs penalty.

But guys remember that (AFAIC) OLR rules are included - no wall (or AI) tuoching, riding, 2 wheels on the track at all times ...

When ever possible :) You don't need a 100% clean race for it to be valid. You must use the ORL rules at all times when racing but you can't control what happens unintentionally (off course excursions, bumbs with the AI).

Well, I'll be honest, I'm somewhat disappointed with the race ... at +8 skill the opposition are absolutely, without a doubt, leaving me standing on the straight. They are more powerful and much lighter and even when I come out of a corner faster, they just step on it and leave me standing like Im in a Citroen 2CV ... it's not even close.

The catch, of course, is that they completely hold me up in the corners, so I can't get past them and I can't run flat out. I'll be better off letting them get a head start on me and running on an empty track.

Just tested with your car, after lap one I'm in 4th place and at the middle of lap 3 in 3rd so it's very doable. The other cars are gaining a little on the straightaways but nothing like in your description. I want the AI cars to be somewhat of a competition, not a walk in the park you get in front of the AI and never see them again.

Most unfair moment in my racing history!

I'm in 4th behind the 2nd and 3rd cars ... I can see that, for some reason, they're really having problems ... the 2nd place car is sliding all over the place and the 3rd place can't seem to get around him ... suddenly there is contact, the 3rd place car spins off track!

Excitedly I gun it, head around the corner in pursuit of the 2nd car who lost speed ... and WTF??? the car that spun off spins directly into both of our paths!!! BOOOOOOOOOOM we're all off the track.

It was one hell of a moment ... except, of course, *I* get the BLOODY forced pit stop and the two of them carry on driving like nothing happened.

And *THAT* is one of my biggest gripes about this game :ouch: :grumpy: Give me penalties, sure, but don't give me a penalty because someone else spun in front of me and then let them off!!!

You're also faster than me VIper :)

EDIT: Oh, and something interesting just happened on lap 5 ... I'm chasing the 2nd placed car ... he's pulling away from me, but I'm pushing hard ... when suddenly I see that he has spun off and he's crawling back onto the track ... not wanting another flag against me, I take him slow on the inside and gun it while he's still stationary.

From a standing start ... he guns past me before the end of the straight.

I must have a bad line up here, because the top two cars are BLISTERINGLY fast (like over 100HP more and over 100KG lighter).

Kolyana, sorry if this is a dumb question, but are you sure your top speed setting is tuned properly? I forgot to change mine for my first run, and I was surprised at how slow I was!

And now, some images from my first race for everyone's viewing pleasure.

The field accelerating on the opening lap

Me blowing past the Ford Falcon

Me and a Lister Storm doing some trackside landscaping

Stalking the leader...

And the pass!

Smoking the tires out of a corner

And to top it all off, backfire! It's my new wallpaper too!
