JGTC S1 Round 1 Race + Results

For what it's worth, I don't need a totally clean race or anything ... heck, in 30 laps something is going to go wrong, but my first complete race was penalty free (couple of spins off track) and I'd submit it as per the 'gentlemens' agreement if viper & co wanted it that way.

Just for future reference.

who wants to see pics of my MOBIL 1 NSX runnin at Motegi?

everyone lining up for the sharp corner after T1

taking the lead once and for all, by outbreaking him after the long straight.

I love these two ... great pictures!

Just did my first try and must say it was one hell of a blast. 👍 Here's a brief resume.

  • Lap 4 - Gained 2nd place but by the time I got there the Peugeot 205 was 9 secs ahead.
  • Lap 6 - Came out of turn 4 and suddenly realized I had gained huge amount of time on 1st place. Leader was just coming back on the racetrack while I was coming out of the turn.
  • Lap 9 - Leader pitted (Peugeot 205) and I gained the lead.
  • Lap 10 - With the 2nd position car right up my ass (Lancia Delta) I came in to pit. To my surprise he followed me in. Came out 1st with the Delta following me in 2nd, the Peugeot was now 3rd.
  • Lap 12 - Built and enough to breathe normally lead, about 5 secs.
  • Lap 17 - Ran wide on turn 2 and lost 3 secs on that lap time.
  • Lap 18 - The 2nd position Peugeot came in to pit, leaving 2nd place to the Lancia.
  • Lap 19 - Had built a 10 secs lead by then.
  • Lap 20 - Came in to pit and the Lancia followed on the same lap.
  • Lap 21 - Made the mistake to push too much on cold tires and ran wide on turn 5 and lost a good 5 secs there. I saw my lead shrank to 6 secs.
  • Lap 26 - I was dead consistent for the past 5 laps and the two behind me (Peugeot 205 & Lancia Delta) were lap after lap at the same 5 secs back. All of a sudden I check the map and I see that I've gained some ground on them, by the next sector time I had a 12 secs lead. I guess that both got into an accident.
  • Lap 28 - The Peugeot came in to pit a last time taking him out of a possible win. I knew the Lancia was good up until the end since he was on the same exact pit strategy I was using. I was pushing pretty hard and my lead was between 14-15 secs.
  • Lap 30 - The Delta must of missed a turn because all of a sudden I had a 29 secs lead. I started to see the 6th and 5th position cars ahead of me but it was too late to go and catch them up. I crossed the finish first with the exact same 29 secs lead

Gained 185 pts for that race. For a first try I'm pretty satisfied but I know there's a good 20+ secs left to shave next time. :)

k the 1st set of pics is my qualify session

OKay, I just ran the race again simply because it's so much damned fun (thanks Viper!) I'm probably going to submit this one, so here are my pics and write up :)

The Field:

Toyota RSC Rally Car 02

AMG Mercedes 190 E Evol

Lancia Delta
This is one pain in the ass car ... fastest on the field by far

Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car 97

Subaru Imprezza Super Touring Car 01

Me :)

I started quickly ... keeping the pressure on, but only really intending to overtake underneath the bridge ... i knew I could catch all the cars through any corner, but they left me stranding on the straights which pretty much ruled out drafting for an overtake.

However, half way through the first lap I see that I'm faster getting into the first lefthander and cut in before him ...

Garaiya under braking Subaru early on in the first lap.

Getting behind the FTO, battling with him for the remainder of the lap ...

Battling with the FTO

Until I decide to slingshot off the hairpin and charge down the straight faster than him...

Hurtling down the main straight ...

At this point I'm 4th and the Lancia is 1st ... and pulling away.

Battling with the 3rd placed car ... the Mercedes

In third place with the 2nd placed Toyota Rally car and 1st place Lancia in front of me

I finally managed to underbrake the Toyota at the end of the starting straight on lap 3 ... second place!

But the Lancia was pulling away all the time ... I could run faster on the first half of the track, but after that he'd pull out an additional 2 seconds everylap and there was nothing I could do about it ... I just had to pray that he'd make a mistake.

Six laps later and I'm still chasing him ... but the gap is a whopping 17.7 seconds and just getting bigger all the time ... and then I see it ... he's come off the the S-curves!

He ended up facing the wrong way, then cut back across the track and came off again as he tried to gain grip ... all the time I'm hurtling down on him!

By the time he got going again ... the gap was just 4.5 seconds!

My strategy was to pit on laps 11 and 22 ... the last time I came up against this guy he didn't pit until lap 18 ... so I was fully expecting to lose this gap all too quickly, but I really pushed after him and amazingly kept the gap close until lap 11 when I made my scheduled stop ... and mazingly he pulled in right before me!!!

I was praying that I could get out before him, but we pulled out almost at the same time, straddling the Mercedes ... I'm now in 5th, the Lancia is in 3rd.

Pulling out of the pits ... the Mercedes can be seen on the right

Positions 3rd, 4th and 5th

At this stage I'm not too concerned ... the other cars are going to have to pit soon, all I had to do was stay in touch with the Lancia and I had a shot at this thing. I got past the Mercedes easily enough and then the Lancia and I started battling it out over lap 12 ...

I finally got him by underbraking at the end of the main straight after the hairpin, which left the FTO in 1st, me in 2nd and the Lancia in 3rd after the other cars started their pitting.

1st, 2nd & 3rd!

On lap 13 I took the lead for the first time, but I have the Lancia breathing down my neck at only .6 seconds behind ... it's going to be a very tough fight! We fight for the 13th and 14th laps, even changing places occassionally, when he makes a mistake and careens off in the Chicane on the home stretch ... I was now 7 seconds ahead!

Well he must have pushed it too hard, because on lap 15 he comes off again at the same point as lap 9 ... the last part of the S-Curves ... and now I'm 17.5 seconds ahead of the 2nd place car.

By lap 17, though, he's gaining again ... clearly he has found his groove ... and with just 15.8 seconds between us I wonder how long I can keep him at bay. On lap 18 I hit the chicane all wrong and the gap closed to 13.8, and just as I was cursing my lack of concentration he came off himself and the gap was back up to 23.8 seconds! With this I could possibly pit and still come out ahead.

On lap 21 he pitted ... one lap before I intended to myself ... and by the time I follow suit I come out 19 seconds ahead of him and pulling away.

In the end I took the checkered flag over a minute ahead of the rest of the field and even bearing down on the back of the field threatening to lap them.

Kolyana you got lucky there, in my race I had two sick fast cars to race against, both the Lancia Delta and the Peugeot 205...and the 205 been the fastest of the two. But it's soo much fun to have a good competition. 👍

That's the combo I had when I first posted "OMG! I can't keep up with these guys!" ... but with hindsight I want to say that it's amazing fun. I'm just too used to the 3 lap wonders in GT mode where you are thrown in against superior opposition and have to beat them all in a ridiculously short period of time ... this is the first full race I've done and it just rocks ... I love it.

Looks like you guys/gals are having a blast over at GT300! Is the competition really that much closer than GT500, where the race is pretty much over after lap 1? :guilty:

BTW, with all these great race logs I am getting tempted to write one myself... 💡

MR8 ... it seems that (in GT300) the Presence of the Lancia and Peugot reallt makes for a tight field ... it may be just that these cars happen to have what it takes to make it this way - luck of the draw, as it were, but both cars are so damn fast during acceleration that it really makes it a battle to keep them off your back or even catch up with them in the first place. I can't imagine a scenario inwhich it would all be over inside 2 or 3 laps ... for me it was a fight into the teens and even then I thought he (the Lancia) could make a come back, except he started coming off every few laps.

We'll see MR8, maybe increase the race difficulty to 10 for GT500 on round 2. But 8 is great for GT300 so it won't change.

That might be a good idea, we'll see what the other guys think. :)

Even though I only ran it for fun (I am however contemplating on taking that open GT500 spot) I did notice that by the second lap the gap between me and the 2nd placed [LM Z] was doubling through each sector.

Let me know if you ever decide to jump in. You'd be a pretty damm good GT500 driver. 👍

Sweet write-up Kolyana. Loved the picks. I am going to have another shot at this race today. Hopefully I can have a better mistake free run. I shall stick with my original pit strategy because mathematically it makes for the fastest time. Can't wait to discuss times and pit strategies once this race is over. Wish me luck.

Great write ups and pics guys and gals 👍

I just finished my first attempt of the race and it wasn't too bad. I wasn't that consistent and i messed up my pit strategy leaving me with red tires for the last two laps.

The lineup included
- Toyota WEDSSPORT Celica
- Peugeot 205 Rally Car
- Renault Maxi Rally Car
- Toyota RSC Rally Car
- AMG Merc. 190 E

I took the lead before the end of the first lap from the celica and gradually pulled way. After my first pitstop i came out in front of the celica still in 1st place but my second stint was much slower with too many mistakes and i only pulled away very slowly from the celica. The race was fairly uneventful and i didn't see another car for the rest of the race after the first lap as i lapped the Peugeot while he was in the pits.

Alright, I ran the race again and finished with a time I will submit. Follow along for the details.

Starting Grid

Lap 1: passing

trying some more passing

Stayed out an extra lap before the first pit for a 'buffer' and lost the lead coming out of the pits.

...but passed him under braking to retake the lead.

love the racing tires!

Everything was going fine until lap 22 when all of a sudden...

Managed to make it do a complete 360 and keep going. Did it on the main stretch so the grandstand loved it.

1 lap later, almost lost it again.

Forced a pit 1 lap early but I had my 'buffer'

Set my fastest lap on #28 (ironically, the same lap I was fastest on during my previous run.)

Took the checkered flag!

This was a blast! Look forward to next race and see my fellow drivers at the next qualifying session.

Kolyana
I did ... you nickumpoop!

PS: Sexxy looking car you have there. I love the JGTC's.
..aww shucks :O ..i love the Mobil 1 and the WoodOne Supra..

Pulling out of the pits ... the Mercedes can be seen on the right
love that shot

Yeah, me too .. I tried to take a shot INSIDE the pits, but it won't let you ... this one turned out well though ... it was such a RUSH battling for first place, only seconds behind, and both of us pitting at the same time.

I used to play a game (maybe an F1 title years ago), that added a human element to the pit stops that could shave off time or add to it, so it's kind of a shame that GT4 doesn't have something like this ... I wasn't sure if the times were fixed or not, but I was hoping to hell I could maybe get out before him or make up a little time.

Coming out straddling the Mercedes was just freaking insane ... frustrating, but in the best possible way! What a race.

Man, 3 lappers in GT mode just don't cut it anymore.

MAN! I love those pictures!!! I have saved half a dozen of those for my own personal collection ... what a damned sexxy race line up ... I LOVE THEM!!!!

The spin in front of the grandstands rocks ... great series of shots.

Questions:
1) How did you manage to get the whole line up like that? Did you restart the replay several times moving the camera? Or did you manage to take them all in one go?

2) How are you getting your thumbnails to line up like that, rather then down the page like mine are?

That would be really cool. Randomized pit times would be annoying but having a way to be involved in the pit more would really be great.

Pitting with other cars and coming out into traffic always makes a pit stop more entertaining. I usually try to pit with another car, even if it's just for the visual effect.

I forget now how the 'other game' did it ... it made sense ... you were controlling the tire guys or something ... but it brought in a whole new aspect into the pits, you didn'y just drive up to them and let go of the controller, you know? It was actually possible to have a "good" or "bad" pit ... so during the entire race you were very much involved. Heck, I think this was on something like a humble Commodore 64 and I remember so many features of the game ... it was a great little package (and it had damage :p)

Regarding the pitting and everything ... or the discussion regarding "traffic" ... participating in this racehas given me a huge sense of what GT5 may be like ... with the proposed 24 cars on the track at any one time ... can you imagine what an intense drive that would be all of the time? The number of cars pitting, the merging back in of traffic and almost always fighting cars in front and behind!
