The Psychology of Urinals

As I wandered into the toilets (rest room? Whatever) the other day and happened across the urinals, a thought occurred. Why do I choose the particular urinal I choose?

This poll aims to determine whether urinal choice is random or follows a set pattern.

So, assume that there are 5 urinals as you enter the toilets:

Doorway..... Urinal 1..... Urinal 2..... Urinal 3..... Urinal 4..... Urinal 5 Wall

That is the urinals are in a line from #1 nearest to the doorway through to #5 next to the far wall, furthest into the toilet area.

All 5 urinals are vacant. Which urinal do you choose?

I'd go for 2 or 4 depending on the layout of the room... I don't use the outermost ones if the room is vacant.. HOWEVER - I WILL use the outermost ones IF the middle one is .. ehhrmm .. occupied.. If the two outermost ones incidentally are occupied at the same time, then I'll use number 3... For some reason, I like an empty urinal between me and a stranger - If I can't have that, I wait until I can... If it's people I know, I'm not quite so picky about the empty lot..
 
5 is the best. I hate it when people dont use urinal etiquette.

In my local there are three urinals in the gents. A few times i have gone in there to find someone using the middle one. Do they not understand that that means someone will have to stand next to them? Maybe thats their plan! In which case I use the cubicle!
 
#3... here's my logic... #1 is going to be unpopular, because it's nearest the door... most people will go for #5... if someone is at #5, the next person will go as far away as possible... but will try to avoid #1, so they will go for #2... if another person comes in, they will have to stand next to someone, at either 1,3 or 4... they will not go for #1 probably, and #3 will leave them open to the horror of being stood next to two people (if someone else comes in), therefore they will select #4, and therefore, #5 is now next to someone, and will be 'boxed in'... :nervous: in other words, selecting #5 only needs 2 people to come in to be stood next to someone, and boxed in... selecting #3 first will allow one person to choose #5 and then another to select #1 (since being near the door is not as bad as being next to someone)... three guys all peeing happily and all apart from each other... #1 would be my second choice, as in the event of three people arriving, atleast you are closest to the exit... but #3 will maximise the amount of time you can spend neither standing next to someone or standing nearest the door... :dopey:

edit:.... another explanation for my selection:- by choosing #5 first, you are now at the mercy of the next guy... if he chooses #1, you're OK, but if he chooses #2, then you're in trouble... by choosing #3 first, you practically force the second guy to choose #1 or #5... therefore, the third guy will choose #5 or #1... by choosing #3, you 'control' the room, whereas by choosing #5, you leave your fate to the selection of the person who comes in after you... :D
 
I usually go as far to the wall as possible, so #5 if the room is empty.
 
Probably #1 because its closest to the door. Why walk all the way to the other side of the room to get to #5 when #1 is right there and just as private?

Heh. That's a normal male's instinct I think. It's just against the law not to have an empty lot between you and the next person. ;)

I'd take number 4, close to the wall but not boxed in. But after reading the thread I probably would select #3.

This is kind of how I think about it too. I chose #2.

I never use the urinals. I get stage fright. If I were to use a urinal it would be the one next to the wall though...number 5

5 for me and if possible the disabled one because it's bigger. Probably get heat for that one even though I've never taken it from a disabled person. :rolleyes:

:lol: Most of the time I can hold it all day untill I get home anyways, but in general I like home because I know who used it and how clean it really is. :D
 
#4 for me. Far from the door, but I still get some space as opposed to 5 where I would be blocked by the wall.

I do that all the time too. Mind you, I've also never held up a disabled person because I took the only stall accessible to them. And come to think of it, I really can't ever remember seeing someone in a wheelchair enter a public washroom.

Are you trying to tell me that you don't find it more difficult to pee when someone stands right next to you...? If so, then you're a better man than I am... :sly: It's a known fact that when two blokes stand next to each other, there is a silent psychological battle to see who starts peeing first... glory (and relief) to the winner, shame and frustration (and another trip to WC within the next 5 minutes) to the loser... don't tell me that this has never happened to you... :D
 
I think that psychologically, you're nervous about the other guy looking at your chipolata.
That doesn't make you gay.
And it doesn't necessarily make him gay either.

I chose 5.. cause if they are all empty, if someone comes in, They dont have to stand by me. but at my work, there is only 2, but luckily a stall divider thing. that helps.
