My cat died this morning. He ran away for 3 days, i found him yesterday, we took him to the hospitol for animals last night. At around midnight they called and said that he either has cancer, or a virus called FIP, either way there uncureable. He had to be put to sleep.

6 is middle aged for a cat, but yes very young, to me the last 2 years seems like 2 days, and when i heard he died, all my best moments with him all flashed.

My condolences. We've got a good batch of cats at the moment, all with great personalities. I'd be sad to lose one, though I suspect the oldest one (14-15) is losing his kidney function.

Give it a few months, and then go rescue someone from the pound. His memory won't mind.

Really sorry to hear that, I know how you feel.
My dog all of a sudden got really slow and arthritic looking so we took him to the vet and he ended up with cancer, bronchitus and diabetes so he was put down. I've had him since I can remember and it really sucks without him now, mum won't let me get a cat or another dog so it really does suck.

Our one cat has FIP. Really saddened us when we found out back last May. She's still going strong(mainly due to the pills we have to give her). We just couldnt bring ourselves to putting her down. She stills acts like she always does so we just decided to let her live out her life even though we have to keep her seperated from our other cats. :(

Isn't that a pretty young age for a cat to die?
Cancers and viruses don't care how old you are, unfornately.

That sucks man. My aunt was devistated when she had to put down her 16 year old Pomeranian.

Sorry to hear. I lost my cat this year, mom found her dead in the hallway after she had battling for a lil bit. We had actually discussed putting her to sleep to end it, but I guess she was ready and wanted to go on her own. She was 14 years old, and a part of her family. I miss her alot, and I know you must feel the same. Just don't forget her, and she'll live forever man.

Yeah, but's um.. it's a HE. :) and yeah. It's hard, i found some of his hair in my bed, and i put it in a lil zip-lock bag. So i can have him forever.

I had a doberman pincher, really was an agressive dog but only when she was annoyed, my sister had a baby just over a year ago and my mum and dad was forced to put our dog down about 4 months ago as it was getting really jelous of the baby, we couldnt have left her in the same room if the baby was alone, were just too scared, we had taken her to the vets and they advised she be put down, really bad though my dog was a great friend to me!

I think it's sort of dogs live till around 14, cats are like 15-16. Not entirely sure though.
100% indoor cats that has never been outside, getting fed the right food, can easily live to 20+.. (Which means I only have to keep up with the annoying habits for another 14+ years - Phew - That's nice to know)

Sorry to hear about your cat Yoda.. Luckily I have never had the misfortune of losing one..

I think it's kinda spooky how cats know their time is up...

And as Duke said - Let the memory rest for a while, then adopt another. Lord knows plenty of cats are in need of a loving home...

Not for a cat with FIP.

WIth homeless cats (Feral) there is a huge problem with FIP. Think "Kitty AIDS". With a feral population of cats, they have a spotty diet, and are constantly breeding. for more information check http://www.vetinfo.com/cfip.html

We had a cat named Mr. Hobbs, who had FIV and was diabetic. He was rescued from the local humane society after they had trapped him. In our area, there is a Trap and Release program to help stem the flow of Feral cats. He was trapped, and during the blood tests found him to have FIV. Which is Kitty AIDS. He could not be released or placed in a house with other cats. So he ended up here with Us.

In addition to that he had DIabetes. When he reached the point where he couldn't eat, we took him to the vet for his last ride.

M_Y, my condolences on your loss. I will suggest that you follow Dukes advice and in a few months, go visit the local humane society and pick out a tough little guy. You may also want to search around a bit an see if there are any "No Kill" shelters that are looking for homes to adopt out to.

Good luck.

When I was still living with my parents we had a Persian cat that died the early hours of Jan 01 2000. Had liver failure.
