First impressions of Black and White.
This game is incredible!!! I am running on the highest graphics setting and this is the best graphics game I have seen for the PC so far. The water and the entire environment responds 100% to your reactions. If you throw a rock in the water the water ripples anywhere that you touch. The grass moves, flowers, trees, rocks, people, fences, houses. Anything you grab moves and responds to your reactions. If you throw a person in the water the water ripples realisticly. I still cant believe how great the graphics are. This is the most colorful, beautiful game I have for the PC.
I played last night for about an hour going thru the tutorials. Extremely fun and addictive! Its a combination of Age of Empires 3, Roller coaster 3, Kameo, and Zoo Tycoon all in one game!!! After I figure out how to get some screenshots I will post them. I was pressing all the F1 buttons and Print screen so hopefully I ended up with some screenshots somewhere on the PC.
You can also zoom out to see the entire island and rotate it every way possible that you can imagine.

EDIT: Moved pics to this post so they are easier to find.
ALT-S to take screen shots.

Wait till you see the Aztecs ;)

And keep an eye out for the expansion, Black & White 2 - Battle of the Gods
Thats awesome!! That expansion looks really evil. One of the characters can be a turtle!! I am definetly getting this expansion when it comes out. I am currently using the monkey but if there was a turtle I would be using that for sure. :dopey: Thanks for the link. 👍
Do you know which button takes screen shots in B&W2?

I have a Tiger. It kicks ass. ;) I have to run it on mostly low, but it still looks good. Are you gonna be evil or good?

I haven't taken any screens in B&W 2, but how about trying print screen and pasting it in paint or PS?

According to EBgames the expansion comes out today!! http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=646563
I run the game on the absolute highest settings. No problem at all.
I am going to be good for the first round. Though I did accidentialy throw a couple of my guys across the map by accident and the word "EVIL" floated up from his dead body.
Print screen and then pasting takes way too long when your in the middle of a game.

Screenshots are in My Docs --> Black & White 2 --> *your player name* --> Saved Games --> Pictures.

Do you have to hit the print screen button to get them to show up there or is there another button? Every game seems to have something different.
Far cry-F12, Fear-F5 or F8, Age of Empires 3-print screen, Half Life 2 F8 I think.

Look in the options menu for a list of controls. (Main Menu --> Input).

Thanks mate. I will probably be playing this tonight for sure so I will try to get some screen shots posted of how great the graphics are. When the expansion arrives I will restart the game from the beginning with the turtle. :)

Turtles are cool...but Tigers are waaay cooler (they turn white when 100% good).

Question regarding this game? Is it epic in length or are there short battles, skermishes if you will, 2-3 hours long? How's the controls, game play, learning curve to playing, etc....

Battles are about 2 hours long and there are about 8 islands to play in, but the game is more based around city building and raising your creature. The controls are great (easy to remember), download the demo at www.lionhead.com/bw2

If you have played Age of empires 3 or any game similar you would love this game. It reminds me a lot of AO3 or LOTR yet you have an animal too so thats like Zoo Tycoon. The controls are wonderful. You can zoom out sooo far you see the entire island and all the water around. They you can zoom in soo far you see the little villagers eyes. You can zoom even further and see ants on the ground. I havent played enough to do battles yet but the introduction and the tuturials were extremely fun. I just started doing one of the first missions and I am having sooo much fun. I can tell it will take a while for the battles. You should check it out for sure if you like any of the games I mentioned above.

Oh yeah, definitely into the AOE: III, Warcraft, LOTR real time strategy type games.... So I take it there's a campaign mode and like a instant skirmish type mode as well?

I havent tried yet. Generaly thats what my girlfriend and I do in AOE3 is play together on the same team online against the computer. I havent checked to see if B&W2 has an instant skirmish like AO3 but I will find out tonight for sure. The single player lets you go all over the island and do different objectives against different people. The first Island I was on was so big it actually had different weather depending on where you go. On spot was raining and in another spot it was clear. The weather actually changed depending on where the clouds were. Pako if you like the graphics in AO3 you will crap yourself when you see this game. The grass, trees, rocks, everything is effected by you, everything.. Then you can be good or evil and the game changes according to your decisions. Your villagers even change. Your animal grows bigger and I believe if you feed him too much he gets fat.

Cool! Almost nightly, we have a Middle Earth II session with 2-3 people vs. the computer. I'll have to check to see if B&W2 has network play support. It sounds like a good distraction from my other duties.....like sleep, etc...

Sadly B&W2 doesn't have any sort of network play, it's a single player game (so far).

Any talk or rumors of a network play patch/expansion pack coming out?

There have been, but Lionhead themselves have stated there will be no multiplayer. (even in the expansion)

Oh no kidding. I didnt know that. Oh well the single player is excellent and worth buying for sure.

It seems odd that they wouldn't build that into the game. Multiplayer game play almost seems to be the norm these days or atleast the buzz in modern gaming.

Thanks for the info, still might check it out, or let my nephew buy it, then after he's sick of it I can check it out. :)

It's a great singleplayer experience (and you creature can act suprisingly smart, my enemy sent some catapaults, my tiger caught the rocks they were firing and threw them back at the catapaults.) and like Camaroboy says, it looks amazing (and it sounds amazing too).

Its a shame I cant hear how good it sounds. I have some really crappy speakers from work. I still havent been able to get a surround sound set up yet. Too much going on financially to even think about spending $200 on the set I want. I am just soo happy to finally be able to play every game on the highest setttings. :)

I took some screen shots tonight. As I progress I will take more.
You can change it to any time of the day that you want.
My monkey was really fun to train. At one point he wanted to eat a villager and I smacked the heck out of him saying "NOOO!"
THen a little later he took a poo right on himself.

EDIT. Moved pics to first post.

Looks good. I actually picked it up today, but I haven't had a chance to check it out... I will share my impressions when I get a chance.

Here are a couple more pics I took tonight of training and disceplining my monkey. Spanking the monkey. I am still figuring out how to make all the villagers happy. They really seemed to like the monkey a lot once I set his entertainment higher and he quit crapping himself in the village. I also took pics of some of the thoughts he has.

Moved pics to first post.

While smacking your creature, if you drag your cursor to the edge of the screen and bring it very quickly towards your creature's head, you'll punch him (and leave scars too). To keep your villagers happy don't build their houses together in one spot and build impressive buildings like temples.

lmao about punching your creature. I was beating the heck out of him trying to prevent him from pooing in the village and eating people. I did hit him in the head with a rock by accident.
Thanks for the advice about the houses. Now one last question. Why does the word "EVIL" keep coming out of my water fountain looking thing? I tried to do everything as good as I could and it just kept going evil.
The expansion should be out today or tomorrow in stores.

It's either:
A) You're ignoring your villagers needs
B) Houses are built too closely

Don't worry about it though, you won't become evil straight away (you can easily stop it in the next island), as long as water is coming out of the fountain, you're good.

Thanks for the advice. I did spend a lot of time exploring the island and my houses are right next to each other. I saw a lot of sad faces and just didnt know what to do. THen when my monkey woke up they got a lot happier. It still kept going towards the evil side though which was strange.
I just called the local EB games and they have the expansion pack in so I am picking it up tonight and will probably restart the game with the turtle. :)
No more spanking the monkey.
Its really fun moving the sunset to any time of the day or night you want it. I tried to get it right at sunset or sunrise. Looks very nice as I showed in teh pics above.
