Round 4
Track : Grand Valley Speedway - 4.94km
Deadline : June 4 @ 9:00PM EST

RULES : Standard online racing rules for clean racing applied when ever possible.

Race :

Minimum of 2 wheels on track
Rumble strips are part of the track
No intentional AI contact
No wall riding
No wall touching
No short cutting
No cheating of any kind

Since this is a semi-enduro format (just under 1h each round) we can’t really ask for 100% error free races. But you must still follow the same basic rules layed down for qualifications and use them when ever possible. Since you are racing with other AI cars little incident may occur and result in an excursion off the track, those are normal racing battles. Passing another car should always be done with caution and fair play just like in real life.

Hey boss :)
thanks for the early posting
I must be getting better at figuring out the race lengths, was only 1 lap off this week

Time submited for Grand Valley 31 laps race.
1st and last try because this week I will not have time to do it again.
Good luck to all

not feeling any love fron the tires in this race. i can get 3 good laps in RS... and 5 in RM... so i guess i have my 6 pit strategy working... it will be interesting to see if anyone in GT500 will try to pit 3 or less times in this race...

bad habit of wearing front tires first... with RS, i lose 10 seconds in the 4th lap, so it won´t be a good thing to use them for my race...

^^^

Yea, agreed. This track is really hard on tires. I have one time in, but it was really just a large tire test. I went through about all the differant combinations I could use, so the time isn't that great. I figure that sliding the car around to get faster lap times isn't worth the much reduced tire lenght. Oh what fun!

Only managed to do half a race so far, been busy, busy, busy!

Will get to it tomorrow

Wow, it's been quite here. It seems like everyone is scared to post after last weeks unravalings. I hope not!

I have run the race 5 times, and have come to the conclusion that less stops are better. I ran a 3 pit strategy and I think I'm going to be sticking with it, unless I come up with something faster tommorow.

About the track. I have a new love for GVS. It is such a natural flowing track. It just seems right. Some people may beg to differ that the complex after T1 is choppy, but if it's taken like the double apex that it is, it's fast! The one complaint I have about this track is the tunnels. The curbs in them turn a high downforce producing racecar into a low drag rocketship! What fun :)!

I'm still not convinced of the right strategy this week. My car very tail-happy on RH so I have to carefully consider the payoff of using harder tires vs. the extra effort and concentration required when coming out of every slow turn.

Put in a banker run the other night, nothing special, 2 spins and a drive-through, so lots of room for improvement there. I think I'll write a book called "How to Overcook Turn 4 at GVS, Ensuring You Run Wide in Turn 5, Hit the Barrier, and Spin in an Entertaining Way"...or maybe I'll just call it "Slow Down Son, You're Not Gonna Make It!"

^^^^^^
:D :D :D :D

very funny, very funny!

Got a banker in myself with no spins or pen, but it is slow I think!
Bloody porky is what I am this week!

*EDIT*
Done 3 full races today, with a different strategy each time.

Will re-run the fastest strategy again, soon, maybe...?

I have to agree that this track is very hard on the tyres.
I have managed to get 10 laps out of RH/RM and 8 laps out of RM/RS sets, but the only way to do it is to be super-smooth with as little tyre squeal as possible(not usually a problem for me ). But it also takes early, lighter braking, and a less aggressive right foot also.
Did 7xRM/RS - 10xRH/RM - 8xRM/RS - 6xRM/RS, but unfortunately it is too slow overall to be the best method because of the 10 lap hard's stint being 1/3 of the race overall.

We'll see if I can be bothered to run it again, I'm feeling the weight this week for sure.

Neil

submitted already. 6 pits. lots of tire wear in this one. only 3 good laps with RS/RS... 5 with RM/RS. no incidents, but i felt slow... maybe this race is a little longer than usual, don´t know... not expecting great things, but maybe middle of the pack... depends on how many drivers we will have

Time sent to Eats too! 3 pits,

Think it's the 'nature' of this track that makes the tyres wear so quickly. There are very few corners that don't lead into another opposite one. Also there are corners like corner 5 and the double left after T1, that are off camber AND at the crest of a hill.

Personally I didn't like the changes PD made to the track from GT3-GT4. But now I have done 150 or so laps round it, I like it!

It's very flowing, and there is a definate rythmn to it if you dont push it too much, and let the car do the work. Maybe it just suits the RX7's handling, but I never got out of shape or felt like I was fighting the track. It does help that I always use one stop softer on the rear (RM/RS,RH/RM) except in qualifying, it helps stop the oversteer.

Fairly happy with my time, even though I know it wont set the world alight.
Serves me right for doing so well at Cote. :ouch:

Good luck all! 👍

Neil

8 mins to deadline!

Ran one banker race tonight. First time on the DFP for almost two weeks so I'm a bit rusty I think. Had one penalty but otherwise I was very consistent and happy so I think I can drop 25 seconds if I clean up my act.

Fun race, but looking forward to Sears Point! :^)

Yeah, I know! :dunce:

For some reason I got it in my head that it was the 4th yesterday.

Ah well, an extra day to practice at Sears point/infinion.

It's spookily quiet round here this week, what's goin on?

Neil

I'm pretty busy with work. I managed to run the track 3 times and probably wont have another chance. Time submitted !

Time submitted, feels appalling. It took me hours to get in a clean race with no spins. The rear tires of my car have about as much grip at GVS as a couple of slabs of butter :sly:

Looking forward to Infineon...with a tinge of dread :nervous:

Good luck all 👍

Ready to submit. Ran my first race then realized I had run with wrong weight(light of course) so I just reran and actually got a better time. Guess practice pays off. Gambled with a 3 pit race, taking it a little slower and running on red the last lap before each pit, 4 pits may have been better, but don't have time to try. Good luck everyone...no podium or points for me I'm afraid. It's just for fun....right?

What a horribly frustrating sub-par week for me. Ran a banker race last night including one penalty, but otherwise decent. Today I aborted a race after my first pitstop because of another penalty and went for a last race.

Going well, and ANOTHER penalty, but figured at LEAST I could drop 5 -10 seconds off of my last race. Well, last stint I burned off my tires a bit doing a series of fast laps and two to go had yellow-orange tires and lost 3 seconds on lap 30. Still, with another lap at 4 seconds or so off pace, I STILL would have gained 10 seconds at least from my safety race.

What happens?

RAN OUT OF GAS!! Didn't put enough in on my last pitsop!!! Think I'd learn after the pre-season Nurb disaster...

Oh well, what an utter throwaway event. No qualifying points, and really, REALLY sub personal capability performance. I guess that's what happens when I don't get to racing until Saturday. At least I may shed some weight for the hills of dusty Sonoma, California!

The car handled beautifully though this week with exceptionally even tire wear and fabulous balance. The hard tires were actually a joy to drive rather than a chore. Completely enjoyable driving.

Hope ejr_1 can bring home some points for the ape squad this week...

Funny... My rears were more slippery than normal (which is good since I didn't have to stagger harder tires out back this week) but excellent in general. No risk of spins for me, just boneheaded driving around the AI. ZERO clean races.

Gonna have to sit on my first and only completed race.

Submitted.

I had that same feeling. It's a longer race then normal. I suppose it's harder to get to the normal ~55 minute mark with longer laps.

Actually the last two races have been longer than I thought they would be.

Cote was an average time of 1'00.6ish for the GT300's (that's a very rough and ready calc by the way, so don't rip me apart for being in-accurate)
And this week is going to be even slower I think!

Maybe Eats is deliberately setting the races to one lap longer, so we really have to push if we want to beat the records from last season.

Just a thought.

Neil

*EDIT*

Yup just checked back, and last season's race (JGTC 2005 round 6) was only 30 laps round GV. So we are going to be 1'50 (GT300) or 1'45 (GT500) slower this time round.....ish!

I'm having problems with my SMTP mail server. Already tried to send the results several times, but with no result. Hope the messages I'm sending to eatsviper are getting there. If the problems remain, I'll try to use my gmail address to send the results.

After Round 4 is done and in the book I'll remake the teams standings from A to Z with the 7 teams left. Those will be the final valid teams until the end, all the rest of the field will race in solo for the overall class championship. :)
