Mercedes has unveiled a new special edition SLR called the "722 Edition." The car has increased output of 650 horsepower, a tailor-made suspension configuration, and a decidedly sporty interior. 722 Edition" is a homage by Mercedes-Benz to the unforgettable victory won by the British racing legend Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 (indicating a start time of 7.22 a.m.) at the Mille Miglia in 1955. The car accelerates from standstill to 62 mph in only 3.6 seconds, and 124 mph is reached in just 10.2 seconds. The maximum speed is 209 mph.

No. No no no no no no no.

Why does no-one understand the concept of a "flagship" car these days? You CAN'T have a flagship and a slightly tweaked flagship model. The flagship is just that - you must replace a flagship with a wholly new model.
 
Interesting, I have to say, I like the SLR, but Famine makes an interesting point. I wonder if we'll see an AMG SLR next year then.

Exactly what I was thinking. 650bhp is only 33 more, these 'performance packs' and such are getting a bit ridiculous. If you're going to call on your racing history, at least do it a little less shamelessly than just squeezing a few percent out of the engine, fitting alcantara seats and altering the suspension. Strip it out, make it a real, proud throwback to your racing history, MB!

Ditto, I'll take one. Heck, I'd take a standard SLR just for its sound.
 
Maaaaan thats a nice car..i love SLRs and thats one SLR i wouldn't mind owning..
 
Looks like they went to Auto Zone and bought the biggest Motegi wheels they offered.
 
wow 2 years ago everyone was hating the SLR when it was one of the best. Now that its life will soon come to an end as a also ran in terms of outright performance regardless of its ultra luxury people seem to have warmed to it.
 
The interior looks a lot better. The car looks like a friggin boat, though. I don't like it.
 
It looks like an SL55 just with a longer nose and less of a bumper.....


Still nice though, now I have a new Benz to spot since I've already been in an SLR....
 
I'll take it. I like the SLRs. I do wish they would have done something a little more radical then 33 extra ponies but I guess they can't go too crazy since the replacement is coming soon.
 
...So I assume this is the last SLR coupe before they go with the vario roof ala SL-Class?
