This is by design, and reflects a change in policy.

If you can offer a compelling reason to keep the alignment tags, they may be reinstated, but it's unlikely. Please direct all "I want it back", "it's unfair" yada yada yada comments to /dev/null.

I think the best reason for the [/center] tags is just that it gives much neater signatures (which are more like text-based avatars) where they give insight into a person's likes/dislikes.

Mmm, agreed. I like to have mine centered because it all lines up equally, and it's easier to tell which is post and which is signature (nobody centers their posts...).

I believe Center tags are necessary for the same reasons as the above posts. Although I believe the Right alignment tags aren't very cool.

Did I sound like I was complaining Giles ?... No really ?... Did I ?... I don't think there's a reason for calling me an bitching asshole on behalf of my initial post..

So I hadn't noticed the "Change in Policy" - I have now.. Thanks - but not really...

I don't think Giles' comment was directed at you, but rather to other users who are bound to miss center alignment. Of course, as always, I encourage and welcome all feedback, comments, and suggestions.

Who knows. It was certainly a very calm and mature response to a post made _before_ the guidelines were posted...

He sounded like everybody and their mother had been crying about the illegal Tags for days....

That wasn't how my post was meant to sound. Sorry for inadvertently insulting you. I wasn't calling you "a bitching asshole" either explicitly or implicitly.

I suspect he's merely anticiapting the usual flood of people throwing their toys out of the baby carriage when their "favorite must-have" feature is changed or discontinued.

Yearh you were.. How many at GTP knows what /dev/null is ? ;-)

I apologise for my outburst though - Twas a little down on sugar I suspect...

What! No tag's, oh lordy, my sig won't be the same without them.

Is there a reason why I'm not allowed to have mysignature over to the right? Did it make things cluttered somehow?

Design? Change in policy? Explain? Please?

Points to post 2 in this very thread...

Yes well last time that explination was given to me, it was a matter of days before it went back to the original layout...

(remember the few days where all GTP text was space-and-a-half?)

Yes. Except this time it is a permanent explanation.

So I take it you won't be editing your Sig anytime soon either
This has put me in a conundrum as I'm still grandfathered into the old layout. As soon as the sig gets touched, the new rules apply. :hrumph:

I would like the centre tags to return...my sig won't be the same once I edit it.

Come on dude, get with the program!

Signatures are now automatically limited to 300 characters and 6 lines. Also, the quote and alignment tags will no longer function in signatures and there is a maximum font size of 1 (this allows you to create text smaller than the default size, but not larger). It's OK if your current signature does not fall under these limitations - these changes will simply be applied the next time you edit your signature. I am sorry that many of you will miss the alignment tags, but give the new changes some time. As time goes by and everyone's signatures have been updated under the new rules, I believe you'll appreciate the neat-and-tidy, more readable and usable appearance. Also, when all signatures have a smaller font size than the post, the left aligned text will not distract you when reading through a thread. Remember, the center of attention when looking at a post should be the message - not the signature!
this time it is a permanent

I agree with the decision, as the new layout looks a lot better IMO. 👍

Yeah it would if everyone would change their sig. Although I admit, I didnt want to lose my alignment tags, it does have a somewhat cleaner look 👍.

I didn't want them to go, but your sig isn't reading-friendly, and needs changed anyway. Plus messages in a thread flow better too without sig disruptions.

It will eventually, because over time, everyone will change it.
