I seriously hope these pictures doesn't even closely resemble the final product.. :yuck:

In the words of the true Scooby: "Ruh-Roh!"

Of course, the cammo can't reveal anything "major," but from these early pics... I don't like it. That said, the current model isn't a looker either, but it atleast has a few appealing qualities to it...

I can see the WRX under there and it looks better than the most recent if you ask me (pending on headlight design of course).
However, the hatch looks great if you ask me (I like hatchbacks).
I just hope the headlights are re-modeled some how.

But indeed, the companies really are working the disguise element aren't they.:irked:

Reminded me of a Daewoo Lanos when I first saw it

I hope it looks better with the covers off.

I'm afraid this one's gonna look like...

no...i can't say it... THE HORROR!

the B9 Tribeca.

if nothing else, It looks similar to the Legacy. This might prompt a few more Evo X sales.

lol, considering that the Evo 9 is exactly the same as an Evo 8 I can't see the Evo X being sort after with Mitsubishi's track record atm.

You haven't seen the Evo X, have you?

mitsubishi-evo-x.jpg

that looks MUCH meaner than whatever the car up there is...

Well everybody who judges from that picture above is crazy... since all you can say is that it is a hatchback kind of car, but you could also say that from teh Evo 10, sort of... it is also shorter than the evo 9 ( at least the trunk part ).

Well, let's at least wait until some car magazines do some photoshop of what they see on the pic...

But I have to say, that I don't like the hatchback thing at all... I mean, a Sti is no hatchback, never has been and never should be imo, but I can understand it from a business point of view. First of all they have a new car in their segment, which is also better for the Legacy. Not to forget the advantages in WRC...
Still, wrong direction imo...

No kidding. Am I missing something??? What the hell is everyone so up in arms about??? We have 2 pictures of a highly disguised car, and people are making judgements already about the car?? Give it a rest people. You can barely make out the grille, but the headlights and taillights are still very covered, so who knows what it will really look like.

Again, am I missing something?? This looks to be a WRX wagon, nothing more. It has current WRX wheels, and I can't see any STI badging on it. Just a normal WRX wagon to me. Which, by the way, you do realize the STI was sold in wagon form, right??? I mean, we didn't get it in the states, but they have made the STI in wagon form before, so I don't see how you say it "never has been" when it clearly has before.

Well, if it is a wagon, then fine - no problem. But they might have switched to hatchback... I heard a rumor a few months ago. So long as there is a limousine, I'm happy...
Any yes I know the Sti wagon, have seen quite a lot of them in Japan.
No Sti badging... are u serious ? I mean, you're probably right, that it is just a WRX, but did you expect a Sti badge on this taped thing ?

supposedly theres gonna be a hatchback, estate and a saloon. How come they are allowed to drive that vehicle on the roads without rear taillights?

Yeah, there were some pictures a while back of a WRX hatch concept. Dunno if they're gonna go ahead with it or not, though. And as far as the Evo X...kind of a bummer that the 4G63 is dying out.

Does anyone know if the evo VIII had MIVEC? I'm pretty sure the IX does.

Ehm, there are rear taillights..... look closely ;)

No, I don't expect any badges on this car, being as its a test mule. But, you certainly jumped to conclusions about STIs and hatches, and all just by looking at this when you said.....

Hmmmm? You don't expect that just because a wagon/hatch test mule showed up that they're going to make the STI in that body style, do you??? Seems you did.

As long as Subaru doesn't keep this ****ING hideous grille I'm ok with about anything.

I mean the rest of the car is 1,000,000% awsome...EXCEPT for that STUPID B9 TRICRAPPA GRILLE!

It's the return of the mummy!!!

"Supposedly" Subaru is moving the Impreza line downwards to be a hatchback. That rumors almost 4 years old, but it's still around. I'm glad I stopped buying Scooby's when I did; 2006 was the best year (2001 P1 aside).

An wagon version of the STi has existed for a long time, but is JDM only.

And who would expect to see any kind of badging on a car that's 90% tape?

Believe it or not, that is my favorite Impreza-front of the last years.. I really like it... just wanted to say this, of course I respect that you don't like it ;)

Ehm... EDIT : your pic is an early phtoshop....

this is how it looks... and that's I think it is really beautiful...

Well as I said before, I read a rumour somewhere someday in the past that they are going away from the limousine style in general... I mean with the Impreza, so yes, my fear is, that this will be reality.
So I hope, that you are right and that this is just a WRX wagon.
I drive a STi and that's probably why I focused on it... and have a look at the hood... pretty huge hole, just as big as in my STi ... so it could be a 300 hp 2,5 litre engine under this hood...

Um, yes, we know. I'm very aware of that fact. Let alone that this is a GRAN TURISMO web forum. I think anyone here who has played that game knows that.
And who would expect to see any kind of badging on a car that's 90% tape?
Again, no one would. You stepped into this discussion late, and missed most of it. We understand that, and are moving on.

The hood scoop looks pretty small to me. The 04-05 STI had a huge scoop, this is not even close. Its also much more flush mounted, kind of like the Legacy and Saabaru 9-2X have.

Also, if you look, this car has the '06 WRX 17" wheels. Those are a 5x100 bolt pattern. The STI, on the other hand, uses a 5x114 bolt pattern. Which means that the brakes on this car are not the Brembos.

So, small-ish scoop, normal side skirts, and no Brembo brakes. I'm guessing, this is just a normal WRX wagon.

If you have a look at the 2006 STi, it seems about to have the same size...
You have to consider the fact, that the hood itself is deeper in the middle part.

Probably yes. Or it is no wagon, but the new hatchback. Which I hope not...as I already said... :)

I agree, the latest evolution is the nicest, followed by the bug-eyes (because I drive one!).

The article suggested that the next STi will have ~330 hp, but I bet that's just speculation.

I can see that the hood does have a depression in front of the scoop, as opposed to the scoop sticking up higher off the hood. But, what I'm talking about is just the size of the hole itself. Sure, the shape of the hood and the shape of the scoop are different. But, the hole itself on the current STI is much bigger than this car has.

It just seems a bit optimistic to assume that the first ever real spy shots of the new Impreza in the US would be the STI. Are they working on one to eventually sell?? Oh, absolutely they are. But, this first ever test mule caught on road is not likely to be an STI.

I have to admit, the grill of the current model WRX has grown on me, and I really like the new WRX now. The '05 is still the most beautiful overall IMO, but the current is actually my second favorite generation.

There. I said it.
