That's a great deal, but it only applies to people in the US who are close to the stores or have someone willing to ship it out. I'm guessing Micro Center is taking a good loss on that since the processor alone retails at $140.

Yeah microcenter has wicked deals but I can't even get anything there as the closest one to me is in California. As was just said that's a $140 processor and the cheapest motherboards out there are generally $70-80. At that point a 2120 at $130 plus motherboard is a better way to go.

Well part of the problem for newegg.ca is that the warehouses are still in the US. So on top of regular shipping you also got customs adding to the shipping cost.

Yeah plus individual components are anywhere from $10-30 cheaper on top of that. The exact same computer I built through the .com mobile app was $200 cheaper than when I went to look at the wishlist later on .ca. Pretty frustrating.

What about this? It has integrated graphics and has no OS, but it's an i5 2500k with £340. I can most likely get this down by at least £10 leaving me about £100 for a graphics card.

I know, so I'd buy Win7 and it would still leave me £100 for a graphics card. Forgot to mention that.

Sorry for asking but by any chance are you in university? Usually students can get a discount on Windows 7 through their IT department. Or I'm pretty sure somebody posted a link for student rates on Windows 7 earlier in the thread.

The only real problem with that motherboard is that it's an H61 chipset. You won't be able to overclock the CPU with that.

Overclocking isn't necessary. Stop trying to shove it down people's throats.

Well he shouldn't buy a 2500k then... H61 + 2500k is not a good combination. Save the few bucks and go with a non K processor if your going H61 for the motherboard.

Then why is an 2500K on a H61 motherboard? That's taking the extra feature away that you paid extra for on the cpu but then it's on a non-overclockable motherboard. I only brought it up if he did not notice the fact. I'm not shoving anything down anyone's throats, thank you.

I agree. In my opinion: as the title says: "£500 Gaming PC" I think that if OP goes for a non K CPU he may later regret it. But, yes don't get an unlocked processor if you're never going to be able to overclock it. Either get a Mobo that lets you OC or get a CPU that is locked.

In my opinion : Go with an Antec Case

I still don't understand why it's so difficult for you guys to design a parts list for him that is under the 500 pound limit, which is roughly 768$USD.

Parts are more expensive here. A $500 gaming PC is pretty much equivalent to a £500 gaming PC.

Even at that price, It's still possible to build an Entry level computer with at least a 5770/6770/7770. Though it'll only be possible if you hop off the Intel train.

Save your self some money and get these instead
Intel 2500 CPU(non K)
Use Intel Stock CPU cooler.
Use old DVD drive
Remove the LED braided cable.

You can save around £30.
(not including discounted delivery for less weight)

Ooh, very nice. 👍

With the OS that'd be around £600. Unfourtanately I can't get student discounts because they only do upgrades which require a validated windows OS be already installed...
