I have read the first post and would like to join.....I was also invited by Niagara to join

@oooyeahhpapaa

Here's your official SNAIL Welcome Post!

Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join the SNAIL [Spec] Racing league:

  • We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the SNAIL OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR).
  • Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to proceed with your entry into the league:
  1. You start a conversation, by clicking this link, and add zer05ive, JLBowler, nmcp1, llNovall, Akzl298, JamCar0ne & Dragonwhisky as "Recipients".
    1. The conversation title should be "Request To Join".
  2. SNAIL Administrators will respond with specific instructions on what you need to accomplish to join SNAIL [Spec] Racing.
  3. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand these links.
    1. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating and maintaining this league and we would be more than happy to have you race with us. We do ask you take the time and effort to prepare. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts linked below.
  4. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍
Again, the original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.

Welcome to SNAIL

As an aside, there will be more to get done once you start the conversation and, if you want to race this coming Sunday, you'll need to get it all done by 11:59PM eastern time Saturday night.

Man, this forum is huge...where or when are last night's races results and standings posted? Also, can't wait for Niagara's reportings, those are awesome :D
this is a great link with tons of stuff. On the bottom are the data sheets for the races of the season. D1 data specialist is able to get it done fast, me not so much, I usually do data on Mondays.

How's your wheel @CANOWORMS1 ? Last I heard you were having problems, including during our last practice.

  2. Ou8beaver2 -------- voted to eliminate Round 1
  3. RacingChamp30 ----- voted to eliminate Round 3
  4. Soulierxdro ------- voted to eliminate Round 1

The round that received the most elimination votes was:
Round 3 - Honda NSX Gr.3 (RM) at Circuit de Sainte-Croix C Reverse - S03 Late Morning (4 laps)
Therefore, the entire combo has been dropped from next week's line-up. @arethosetacos wins Prize A, and gets to choose an entirely new car and track combo to replace it.

The round that received the second most elimination votes was:
Round 1 - Renault Clio V6 24V '00 (CS) at Willow Springs International Raceway - Streets of Willow Springs - S01 Evening (11 laps)
This means either the car or track will be replaced for next week's line-up. @Dragonwhisky is the Prize B winner and they have the option to freeze the car or the track, or they can give that option to the Prize C winner. If they give the freeze away, they get to decide what car or track replaces the part of the combo that is left unfrozen by the Prize C winner.

Prize C goes to @JamCar0ne - they get whichever option the Prize B winner does not select.

Preliminary prize winners, please don't announce your prize selection until all incident reports have been filed and it's confirmed you don't have any penalties.
  • It is recommended you visit SNAIL combo history, along with other data on our car and track history, to review how many times we've raced each car and/or track.
  • Please remember, originality is always appreciated. Although not required, picking cars and tracks we've never raced is a plus.
  • What's more important is, you thoroughly test any combo you are considering, before making it your official selection.
    • For example, any car you select must not hit its rev limiter, either hard1 or soft2, at any point during a race, even in the draft.

IMPORTANT:
  • When posting your Prize A or Prize B selection, please list the complete in-game name of the car and/or track you are selecting.
    • For example, if you want to choose the Integra Type R as your car selection, post "Honda Integra Type R (DC2) '98".
    • If you want to select Monza for your track, post "Autodromo Nazionale Monza".
    • Being specific helps us to update the lineup accurately and also helps avoid any confusion among the drivers.
  • Please be sure to list the HP and Weight (LBS) of any car you select.
  • For track selections, include the Preset Weather and the Time of the Day (e.g.: S01 Afternoon) or it will be set to default.
    • Available settings can be found under Time/Weather Settings, when creating an online Lobby, after selecting your track.

Car Selection Guidelines
See Section 3 of the SNAIL OLR, Policies and Guidelines.

Track Selection Guidelines
See Section 3.1 of the SNAIL OLR, Policies and Guidelines
.

1Hitting the "hard" limit causes the RPMs to "bounce" and reduces torque and speed.
2Hitting the "soft" limit ceases all acceleration potential. Meaning, you're not going to go any faster.

I'm such a dumbass lol I got confused with the vote, a brain fart made me forget we vote to eliminate a track, not the one we liked the most. I woulda voted 2...I just can't get Barcelona right  (well, any track really, but especially Barcelona...and Laguna Seca).

MAY 2026 - WEEK #3 STANDINGS

Some Observations:
  • D1 and D2 both started the night with 8 drivers before a couple dropped off in each which is fine. Happy to have them for a bit instead of not at all.
  • @VoidChevalier - Congrats on making your debut. You'll settle in just fine in the coming weeks.
  • @oooyeahhpapaa - Hopefully we'll see your name on the active drivers list in the upcoming days.
  • I still have another couple of recruits that I'm trying to get over the finish line.
A reminder that were off next Sunday due to Memorial Day but I'm sure practices and other events will pop up in the meantime so keep your eyes on this forum.

I have finally set up my PSVR2 and am trying to get ready for tonight's SNAIL TT/VR Endurance event. I have a few questions.

Should I use the positioning reprojection?

Does the PSVR2 run at 120Hz automatically?

How do I select a more athletic-looking avatar? Mine looks like he weighs 95 lbs.

I am not familiar with the positioning reprojection, what is that?

If I recall correctly, the PSVR2 uses variable refresh rate technology. It will run at which ever Hz the game throws at it. The refresh rate can seamlessly switch when going from say, the menus to the race. I remember having to set my PS5 to 60hz when I first got the PSVR2 because when in pancake mode, the auto variable rate would cause the game to pause while the ps5 would attempt to switch refresh rates and find it could not because the my matrix switcher can only do 60Hz. I have a 4x2 matrix switch installed which allows me to select one of the four inputs to display on one or both TVs. This allows me to have another device (PS3/PS4) displayed on one tv while playing the PS5 on the other tv. And they price these things by the Hz, a 120Hz model was about $1500 where as the 60Hz was only $80.

I can’t wait until I’m in the market for a VR. To those that have, and use their VR sets, how magnificent is the difference?

I am all about realism. And VR does it in spades. I'm able to see the exit point much better, I find myself looking at 90 degrees to the track at times, something that's not possible in pancake mode. And the view in an open top car is to die for.

The difference in visual fidelity cannot be call "magnificent". It's not as good as 4K, much better than 1080P. To be brutal, I'm not one to use as an authority on the quality of differences in any event. I pre-ordered the VR2 and started using it on release and haven't driven more than a few meters without it on my face since. Flat screen is just so, well, flat. You want 3 dimensions? VR is where you'll get it. I feel the car's dimensions better, I sense where other cars are in relation to mine better, I can look for exits, when I remember to look for them @Marcus Garvey , way way better. Can't see car in any of my mirrors? Turn my head left or right to find it, if I haven't already looked at the close up radar to find it.

It's just an overall better experience than 2D. Imagine, instead of the 55°, or so, FOV of peripheral visual input in pancake mode, VR gives 110° FOV or so, and the ability to rotate that 110° FOV 360°, without having to remember which button to use. You can literally turn around and look out the back window of whatever car you're driving, with a few exceptions that have no interior and you drive in VR with your head sticking out the roof, which is a little weird but workable.

Combine VR with a decent wheel & pedal set, sequential and/or H-Gate shifter, a little tactile installation, the only thing left is smell and physical g-forces to make it any more real. The price per hour of entertainment goes down every second you use it.

@Oshawa-Joe
My PS5Pro HDMI is routed through a fairly old Onkyo receiver, which I don't think natively supports 4K or HDR, from there it hits an extractor that splits signal to my buttkicker amp and then hits my TV. I don't think I'm getting the full monty of visuals on my Samsung 43Q60C I picked up about a year ago. Which is one of the reasons I said I'm not an authority on the visual differences. At any rate, my settings on the PS5 and in game are below.

I'm sorry I've missed the past two sessions. I missed on the 10th because it was Mother's Day and I missed this past Sunday because my wife wanted to go to the Renaissance Festival and we didn't get home until late. I won't be racing this Sunday because my wife and I are going to her parents' lake house for Memorial Day weekend.

Well, since there are no "official" races happening on Sunday the 24th, you won't be missing out on those.
