We need to get this car in GT7! Reliant Robin for the WIN!

Not only was the competion insanely fast, jamcar had no practice and had to learn to drive without ABS during qualifying.

The FGT is a bit of a Bronco without ABS.

Yes, the FGT is truly a Bronco without ABS. I think I actually got lapped during qualifying! :O It took at least 25 laps to figure out how to drive the car, but once I did, I started to enjoy it.

Not wanting to bug any of the SNAIL Stewards of course or anyone and I understand there is no racing this weekend but just curious when ill know what division ill be in. Thanks guys 👍 Of course I understand there is a lot to do and life comes in the way and much more. No Rush of course

You can make your every day driver look like a race car! With your name on the side and everything!

Looks like I have a new place to source track maps from for banners.

On another somewhat related note, I've thought about printing out course maps with my 3D printer. I might have to try a few soon. Also thought about doing some with elevation and land topography too. Would be cool to turn one into a diorama.

Falango, as I was reading your post and you said course maps with your 3D printer, the first thought I had was elevation changes because otherwise you could just print it on regular paper. And that was your next sentence! Ahhh!! That'd be so cool!

Off the top of my head, try to make a coffee tabletop made out of multiple tracks pieced together, or something. Just thinking randomly.

Well I'd want to print them with my printer, and then paint them to put in my display cases with the diecast cars. They would make for nice pieces to put behind the cars. Kind of like those ones that are printed on wood, with carbon top layers to hang on your wall. My printer has a print bed of 16"x10"x10", so I can print some decent sized ones!

I'd love to see some of those display cases. They would look good with the track behind being where the corresponding car had it's iconic moment.

I've always wanted those large wall track maps but they're expensive. I can settle for the tiny decals to put on my car and stuff.

I'll make a special order of Mission for my wall :D

Might have to keep in touch as I had a few ideas on trophy heads for our vee race which involved 3D track maps, if you're up for it of course

PM me with some details.

As for the display cases, I'll post a pic tomorrow. I'm pretty much moved into my new place now, and one display case is filled up. Putting the other one up tomorrow with the rest of my F1 cars. I don't know if there's much to do with tracks and iconic moments with the cars I have. If I were to do that, I'd likely do that with a print of that car in action at said track. Might also do a print of the driver behind their F1 car, we'll see. Would like to do something to compliment the collection.

And with 3D printing you can literally do anything (within the size of your print box)

What kind of materials can you use? I recently heard of glass being used to create amazing sculptures.

Mine is an additive printer using a variety of different plastics, primarily PLA and ABS. I recently switched to ABS because I have a workbench that I will use to sand and prep models after the print. PLA does not allow for every much modification and fine tuning afterwards. As for what I can print, the sky is almost the limit. Because it's additive, laying plastic from the bottom up, it does become quite limited when shapes get intricate, mostly with things like skinny, hanging structures. I'll post up stuff I print though. Things are busy right now, but in the next few weeks the printer will be running again.

One of my first projects I want to do is modify a cheap 1:18 Maisto 1999 Mustang I bought for $5. It's already completely disassembled, and once I have some success with it, I'll post the process of it, as it is quite fun and a great use of some amazing technology!

Can you make hollow objects, like make your own bottles? Are the materials clear or opaque? Can you paint them? 3D printing really intrigues me.

Clear material is out there, but it's not going to be anything like glass, because they are small strands of plastic laid on top of each other, layer by layer. They melt together, but not solid like casting. Hollow objects like bottles are possible. I've done some tests and have been able to create about 40 degree overhangs from vertical without flaws showing in the prints. The material can be painted, definitely, but I'm not sure how they react to different kinds of paints, and priming them first is probably recommended. I'll explore that route when it comes time to. 3D printing intrigues me too, it's such a fun tool to have! My friend has a laser cutter, so I may borrow that for the Mustang project. Once I have a part printed in plastic that fits, that 3D model can be loaded to software for the laser cutter, and a metal object will come out in the exact same shape.

Dude, that is a great idea. I've wanted a 3D printer for a long time, it's just not a priority on a college budget. 16"x10"10" is a pretty big bed isn't it? What printer do you have? If you find a way to make them look nice I'd totally order a print if you'd be up to it. Silverstone GP with some little feet on the back to stand up would be awesome.

Oh man. I just spent some time running sections in DiRT Rally on the PC. Wow! The graphics, the physic, the feel of the wheel, shifting with a clutch in a way that feels right. Amazing! OK, surely there is better, but man, this game is fun, and I've only raced the first rally event in a Lancia Fulvia HF. It was a mighty good time!

DiRT is the next racing game on my radar once I play through Project Cars a bit more. Sounds like I may have to hurry and get it!

I may mount them on a small wood platform as a display piece if they work out!

I have the RigidBot printer from Kickstarter. A budget printer, good to start, and ya, huge print bed! Most consumer 3D printers are less than half that print size.

Currently you are only limited by your hardware (and therefore budget) it seams. @DesertPenguin09 has a great idea, I thought the same thing when I read your post. I thought of a race track, with a glass top as a coffee table. Sculptures, marketed properly, could possibly fund your next hardware upgrade. From there, only your imagination will limit you. I dig your creativity... you have a gift. Please, think big.

On a side note, I just reheated a giant baked potato left over from tonight's dinner. Remember the last time you said, "this potato has too much cheese and bacon on it." Me neither.

Thanks @jnmjeeper, I always try to come up with new ideas, and see how far I can take them. A coffee table with the "legs" as a race track is an awesome idea!

The material is cheap, which is great. The software I use estimates how much a print will cost. At about $25 for a 1kg reel of material, the length of the material is in the range of 330 meters. I printed a small bulldog model I made in school, at about 7cm, 4cm tall, he only used 1 meter on material. He cost all of about 8 cents to print. Not too bad :P

I've been eyeballing rip-raps for a while now. One of the projects on my list of things to do is build first a DIY laser cutter/etcher. Then use that experience to build a 3d printer. If I remember correctly, someone else here has one as well, handlebar maybe?
