50 years ago & this track was very different. No concrete walls, not even Armco! Stuff up & you were off the mountain, in an earthbank or taking on the trees.

This picture may be from the early 70's, but the track remained virtually unchanged from inception to 1986/7. The photo was taken at The Dipper...

Too true! The view from the track was much more scenic as well (driven at low speeds).

This is 1968. HK Monaro followed by XT Falcon. 1969 it would've been HT Monaro & XW Falcon.

In 1969, a rookie by the name of Allan Moffat was taken for a ride by his team to see the much vaunted Mt.Panorama. Car was parked at Skyline where the men enjoyed the view towards the Bathurst town. Moffat thought this was nice but was eager to see this track he had heard so much about. After being told he was standing on it, he knew he was in for a very interesting debut. To say he was surprised & a little taken back goes without saying. Conquering the annual 500/1000 classic (4 times) would remain his biggest and most proudest achievements during his career.
