It was a case of luck gone wrong for a US man who won a Lamborghini only to crash it just six hours after taking it home.

David Dopp won a 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, worth over $347,000, on November 12 at LaVell Stadium in Santaquin, Utah, in a competition run by Maverik petrol stations.

He received his 640 horse powered prize, on December 17, local news service ABC4 reports. He took the car for a spin straight away, driving friends and family around his home until noise complaints forced him to head to the outskirts of Santaquin.

But the fun ended when he lost control on a corner.

"We were coming up a hill and going down a corner and we hit a patch of black ice," he said.

The vehicle spun backwards and hit a fence post.

Mr Dopp insured his car for six months for $3,470 but the down payment for the repairs is a hefty $991.

He plans to sell the vehicle once it is repaired and use the money to pay off bills and buy his wife a new car.

You don't go down a corner but around it.

I think he played a bit too much GT5 because he thought the real LP640 handles like the one in the toscan night challenge on the grand tour.

Proves owning Supercars isn't all Fun and Games .Feel for him though and to be honest kudos to him for Driving the car .

One word; FAIL! What an idiot.

I'm speechless.

It's called throttle control, dude. You might learn it at Miller Motorsports when you use the other part of your prize.

Because I'm sure none of you would ever crash a car.

Sounds like the guy just hit a patch of black ice at a reasonable speed, it's not something you can always avoid. It's not like he was flying through the streets drunk or anything.

This. Whenever someone crashes a supercar, everyone turns their criticizm switches on High, because of the false assumption that the person crashed the car due to silliness on the road. Having a supercar doesn't make you immune to crashing unless you do something stupid. And black ice is something you really can't avoid, and considering the little damage, he wasn't driving like Michael Schumacher through the streets.

So They told him not to drive the Murci because it is too loud :odd: Haters Gonna Hate I guess.

I'm not totally buying the black-ice explanation, was my point. It ain't the only reason a Lambo would suddenly swap ends. Nor would he needed to have been going fast for it to have done so, given the available bhp. It's not like driving the family beater.

Good thing the guy is safe. How level headed of him to sell it after fixing it to pay his bills and a new car for his wife.

Better to live without money owed than with a super car that bleeds money.

I really feel bad for this guy (for the crashing part), I live in Utah and I could agree with the road conditions not being good enough for a car like that. Santaquin is out in the middle of nowhere.

Have you seen the damage(and the snow)? It pretty much goes along with what you would expect to happen from his story. I'm guessing most people are going by the cost of fixing the car, too which I say, it's not like fixing the family beater.

Also, just curious, what part of the states are you from?

It makes sense, considering that in the picture, you see that the car, and the surroundings are covered in snow.

Probably should have sold it ASAP, before expensive stuff like this happen. Its unbelievable why these cars are even prizes, given 95% of the people probably could never afford them for more than a month or so.

Ouch! Its hard enough with a normal car on black ice let alone a Lamborghini.
(For those who don't know, "black" ice is super slippery ice that looks like a puddle while on the road)

Well that one handles like 🤬.

I would have sold it ASAP as well. That is money in the bank right there.Heck i could pay my house off with that car.

I know it's a sweet car and all,but you spend more money on insurance, gas, plus the taxes on the thing to begin with. You would never be happy with it because it would break the bank, well for me it would.

I would much rather stick to my GT5 lambo's :)

Same. I would never be able to insure it, let alone get it on to the street. Brand new (before such accident), I think you would be able to get $250k for it, enough to buy a decent home, and or a nice affordable vehicle.

That's why you don't drive a $347,000 supercar in the snow and ice...and if you do, you drive like your granny's granny...and if people complain you're driving too slow, you can say, "Yeah, if you had a $350,000 car, you'd drive this slow in these conditions, too."

But at least his wife's getting something out of it.

Why would you drive a convertible super car in the winter time anyway? duh.

I'd keep it!

A brand new, 4 year old car?

Easily. If this really was a brand new car with only delivery miles on it, you could fetch $325,000+ no problem.

There's an '08 LP640 Roadster for sale in the same spec. as the one that crashed going for $250,000 w/ 13,000 on the odo.
