First off, in domestic drag racing, the 2-speed power glide transmission has been a main stay among "rail" drivers for many, many years.
AS for Street cars:
With the right driver a manual is usually faster. However, with the technological advances in Automatics, that isn't always the case. If, you take in to account that
B & M has been in the business of making race shifters, shift kits, and torque converters for automatics for years, you have to conclude that
someone has been racing successfully with automatics for just as many years.
Many of the
really fast cars with "paddle shift" trannies can be driven as autos, and they are still damnably fast.
BMW69er try to maintain civility. The mods get "cranky" when the flaming gets out of hand.👍
As a major Ford Guy since birth, literally, Even I know that if James Bond didn't go back to the venerable Aston-Martin (owned by Ford BTW), He'd probably drive and AMG Merc, especially since the BMW's he used to drive got so danged fugly.
*edit*
I'd really like to know how many cameras were used to film that.
If it was only one, then, for me, the footage is suspect.
The second run, from the front, the 'Stang got owned by only about half a car length. The first run, from the front, the 'Stang got his lunch money stolen.
From the back (start line) it was really hard to tell how far apart the cars were, and the first of those runs it looked like the dude in the 'Stang dropped the "cherry" off his cigarette, and started weaving all over trying to brush it off of his pants.
