Monster7 are you getting these vid links from Supraforums?

damn E55s are fasssst i saw one run at the local track hitting very very low 12s stock and they look nice too. 👍

I've never seen anyone with as short of a fuse as BMW here. Settle, down. So what if they made a mistake, your going to bite their heads off for it? How about everytime we see an error of yours, we whine and moan about how big of an "idiot" you are.

I6, no, I haven't been to the Supra forums for a long time.

And VG30, sorry for not getting back sooner about the scooby. I haven't had a chance to talk to John. aka Subaru nut.
I hear he sold his WRX and bought an STI though. :D

to VG30DETT,
I might have flown off the handle, for that i'm sorry. When i spoke i did because i go through this, drag racing, every weekend. So i KNOW what i'm talking about. The guy in the Cobra got owned the first round,on the 2nd try he did better cause his ass got in gear,so to speak.Still got owned cause he did not do his homework. If he did he would have known that an AMG E55 has
469 Hp, and 516 Ft/Ib STOCK!!!!!!!!! .You do the math.

Ah, it's okay. I met another Subaru nut and he's helping me out a lot. First autcross a week from Saturday. WRX wheels, factory 2.5RS Sedan wing and badging, and custom exhaust are all to be coming to me shortly. I'm waiting for a lot of the other performance parts because I'm trying to stay in a stock class, and I would get murdered in any other class. Thanks though!

Ahhhahaha, STi.... mmmmmm.

It's no biggie, just calm down, and remember these guys aren't the people your dealing with at the track. I never doubted that you knew what you were talking about, you seem very intelligent but it everything you passed on so far came inbetween cursings and insults. But I know how you feel, it's hard to do sometimes. I had a bad day today and I just about lost it a few times.

Anyway, more proof that AMG's own! My friend would just shake his head when I say I want one. I read a article from an old Car & Driver about the CLK 65 AMG. 600 someodd-hp and 700 someodd-torque.... Ooooh mama.

So in summary.

 STi
 AMG

Cobra got owned. In the first race he looks like he lost traction in second, and his launch wasn't too good. Second one was closer.
thanks monster7, I heard about this video on DSMtalk but didn't get around to downloading it.

issue of Car and Driver - MB E55 does:
0-60 in 4.3 seconds
0-100mph in 9.9 seconds
1/4 mile in 12.5 seconds at 116 mph
30-50mph in 2.1 seconds
50-70 in 2.3 seconds

In the 1/4 mile, the luxury freakin' sedan E55 beats the Ferrari 575M (12.6), the 360 F1 (13.0), the Vanquish (12.9), the Z8 (13.0), the supercharged Mustang Cobra (12.9), as well as many others. Just stomp the pedal while sipping your Starbucks espresso and enjoying classical Mozart. Insane. :trouble:

This is my current favorite of mb's and from all the performance sedans on the market. I'm definately getting one for my next car some time later :)

wow, the E55 is sweet, i wouldnt mind an RS6 either, oh and the new M5....500hp anyone??

is there really that big of a market for super sedans???

First off, in domestic drag racing, the 2-speed power glide transmission has been a main stay among "rail" drivers for many, many years.

AS for Street cars: With the right driver a manual is usually faster. However, with the technological advances in Automatics, that isn't always the case. If, you take in to account that B & M has been in the business of making race shifters, shift kits, and torque converters for automatics for years, you have to conclude that someone has been racing successfully with automatics for just as many years.
Many of the really fast cars with "paddle shift" trannies can be driven as autos, and they are still damnably fast.

BMW69er try to maintain civility. The mods get "cranky" when the flaming gets out of hand.👍

As a major Ford Guy since birth, literally, Even I know that if James Bond didn't go back to the venerable Aston-Martin (owned by Ford BTW), He'd probably drive and AMG Merc, especially since the BMW's he used to drive got so danged fugly.

*edit*
I'd really like to know how many cameras were used to film that.
If it was only one, then, for me, the footage is suspect.
The second run, from the front, the 'Stang got owned by only about half a car length. The first run, from the front, the 'Stang got his lunch money stolen.
From the back (start line) it was really hard to tell how far apart the cars were, and the first of those runs it looked like the dude in the 'Stang dropped the "cherry" off his cigarette, and started weaving all over trying to brush it off of his pants.

Killabyte(internet name), can't launch his car for **** from a stop. Jesus owns his ass from a stop to low triple digit speeds - anything after that, and it's bye-bye to the MB.

The Cobra is the faster of the two vehicles. It's been agreed by both owners. Jesus refuses to race the Cobra from a roll because he knows what will happen.

Automatics are better for flat out drag racing. How many manual tranny cars do you see running 4's and 5's?

BTW- I believe only 2 cameras were used for that video. On the other one's they've made they've used 3.

Maybe for flat out pure hardcore drag cars that have to handle thousands of lbft of torque....... but on the street? With cars at like 300 hp and such? Which is faster of the following to cars.

1998 Toyota Supra TT w/6 speed or 1998 Toyota Supra TT w/ATw/OD?

Manual transmissions are faster on the street due to closer gear ratio's and the fact that they rely on a single plate clutch designed for possible abuse instead of multiple clutch plates designed for smooth engagement.

From a stop or in the quarter mile? The automatic. From a highway roll? The manual. 99.9% of Supra owners would agree with that too.

Now if you were to compare an automatic Civic DX vs. a manual Civic DX there would be no question. Manual all the way.

Ok I'm having troubles finding any info...... fould anyone post a link to a site that has tested identical Supra's one with auto and one with manual? Not just people's opinions. Im hard pressed to believe this.

There should be time slips for both of them at the numerous Supra forums..

Or you could check out Dragtimes.com :D

I bet $5.00 on the automatic!!!

(Seriously)

I'll take you bet..... please show me a definitive website that will decide our bets. Im thinking most of the stuff on Supraforums will be modified.

Alright if you can provide undisputable prove that a bone stock TT Supra with and auto tranny could throw down a quicker 1/4 mile time than one equipped with a manual transmission. If so..... i send you a money order..... if not.... you send me funds.
