The '03 Impreza Rally Car is by far my favorite car to rally with, so when a friend and I pitched in for the DFP, I quickly turned this into a competition among the regulars that stop by my place. We're getting ready to break into the 1'25.xxx range with a stage 4 turbo kit producing 478hp, but can't quite get there just yet. I'm sitting at 1'26.923 (clean) and my competition ran faster (1'26.558), but clipped the inside wall before the left-hander leading to the bridge, giving him the ol' dq.

This is where I decided to bring the challenge here. So, go slap on a stage 4 turbo if you have this car (you must purchase it for 750,000cr (NTSC NA)), take a few laps around Swiss Alps and see what you can come up with. I don't mind if you use a DS2 or DFP to get the job done, I'm just curious to see who can get a 1'25.xxx out of her.

Have fun. 👍

Edit: It should be fairly obvious, but I should mention that nitrous was not used for this run as I don't like to purchase it for any of my vehicles.

Edit: 1'25.369.

It's becoming very hard to carry speed without clipping a wall now (both on the inside and outside), but I'm starting to think there's a 1'24.xxx in it somewhere. I'd like to pull it off without much more tuning, though, as it's interesting to see where I can gain time.

You guys don't like rally, or what? :/

I would give this one a try but Impreza costs to much money wich I curently don't have! :indiff:

This !@$!$ car/track combo is so fun, but so frustrating at the same time. A 1'24 exists somewhere as I've pulled a clean 16.9xx T1, but my current ghost has a T1 split of 17.6xx. I just can't seem to hold the line through the rest of the course to save my life.

I just pulled off a 1'25.343, but hit the outside wall on the left/right coming out of the bridge. Was behind my ghost by .1xx at this point, and proceeded to pull ahead in the last two turns so there's still some time there even.

Ok, I can't even guess what time is left in it anymore as I just pulled a clean 1'24.512. And with that, I'm going to move on to another course for now. I'm pretty satisfied with my time on this one and welcome any challengers if you want to pony up the cash for the car.

Z,
Those are amazing times!!
I could only manage 1.25.900 after 20 laps of practicing...
I used the default setting though, tweaking the suspension and diff could
make it easier..

Care to share you setup, so I could see if I can challenge you with identical settings?

I would like to propose a course: The Cathedral Rock I:normal - I'd like to challenge you on that one. My car choice: Lancia Delta Intergale Rally Car with Stage3 turbo.
You in?

Sure. Change your auto gear to 6 and set the VCD to 45%. The car responds very well, but can get tricky in second gear at times. I also purchased the chassis rigidity mod. I would upload a replay in *.max format, but I kind of lost everything on my GT4 card the other day trying to move files between memory cards. I ran a 1'24.611 earlier tonight and feel that there's a 1'23.9 somewhere in it after running a few more laps, but that'll be pretty hard to attain. Will upload a clean replay once I match my previous best.

As for your challenge, I'm definitely in. I love both of the Cathedral tracks, but have yet to drive the car you're challenging me with.. should be good fun. Is the turbo the only modification.. no rigidity mod? Do you have a time you've already set on this course that I could use as a base?

Thanks!
I'll try the Swiss Alps with your setup and rigidity mod..

About my challenge; As you probably know, the Integrale is won at Umbria Normal. So far I haven't done many laps, but the Cathedral 1 is my fav rally course and the 'Grale is my fav Rally car... I used stock settings, Stg.3 turbo and no rigidity upgrade (perhaps I did tweak gearing, can't remember). I have a time of 1.48.047 set there, but that's before really trying. Will start trying today, so we'll see how fast it can be done.

I'll do the Swiss Alps thing too, so this is now a twin duel :)
Cool!

Cool!

Sounds good to me. I will go pick up the Lancia, run some laps and report back later today.

Edit: Sitting at 1'44.990, but it wasn't clean by any stretch. By that, I mean I feel I can go a little faster if I manage to not clip a few key walls. Will get that cleared up later today, just thought I'd post a little update.

I did 1.45.670 just now... There's definetely a lot of room for improvement here - it's difficult to get a clean lap on this stage!

Nice lap! My problem areas are definitely the bridge at the very beginning and the fast downhill section that leads to the sharp right/left/right. Much time to be gained here, I think.

Do you use a DFP or DS2?

Thanks man!

I use DFP.. It seems that initially DS2 gets easier lap times, but with practice I can get a better time with the DFP - in any case, it's more fun with the wheel!

Those areas you mention are probably the most important ones on this course - the bridge is toughest for me (the change of surface traction acn play tricks on you so easily)
How do you like the Lancia so far?

BTW, I still haven't improved my time with the Swiss Alps, guess I have to put more time into practicing the course.. It's a lot more technical to drive than is apparent.

Awesome.. glad to hear you use a DFP as I do (well, most of the time). The points you make about the DS2 pretty much echo my thoughts. It's much easier to make accurate inputs with the DFP, anyway.

For that bridge on Cathedral: There's a slight hill on the left at the end of the straight. I'm in 3rd before I get there, but I slide up the hill a little (already beginning to pitch the car sideways here), drop to second and complete the pitch so it's pointed straight coming onto the bridge. Doesn't upset the car as much and allows for a pretty clean exit.

The Lancia is very fun for me so far, but I can't seem to just toss it around as much as the Impreza (for example). It's as if I can feel the weight more in this car, so it's not much different, just enough to change my line a little. I don't care much for this car on the tarmac sections of the course, though. Much more understeer than I would care to deal with.

I have yet to update my previous Alps time myself.. just keep barely clipping things, but I feel the bridged section of this course is also the key. For instance, I exit the bridge as close as I can without clipping the outer post and begin my braking there. The change in traction when I brake coming off the bridge and back onto the dirt upsets the car and allows a quick pitch straight toward the inner fence. Ramping the hill coming back up for the flip right upsets the car in the same manner and allows for a lot of speed to build for the hill ahead. There's another dip on the left side at the end of the fenced section here and if I begin to turn in and lift off the throttle as early as that, I'm thrown sideways again for the uphill, but instead of pushing to the outer fence, I just need to hold opposite lock to avoid hitting the inner.

The section at the end of the back straight also holds a lot of time. If I ease into the brakes and counter a little after the second landing and let the rear begin to come around, I'm pointed straight again on entry and ready to flip it around the tight fence.

Driving styles may differ greatly here, though.. just thought I'd give you an idea of how I get around things since I don't have any replays to provide.

That's some good info!

I haven't been able to get any more times recently - I managed to get my only save game corrupted by that #@}§#! auto save.. So it'll take me some time to get the cars again as I have to start from scratch now... :indiff:

I will get back to this asap though.

Update on the Swiss Alps time: 1'23.665. I'll post the replay a little later when I have time to transfer it. No updates on the Lancia recently, but I'll get on it.

I will go for that one when I have the change... It may take some time though, because currently my bank roll reads 13.000 credits.... That demon of an autosave :banghead:

Ouch.. sorry to hear. :(

You don't have access to an X-Port or MaxDrive, etc? Hope you get that all worked out soon!

No.. No access, but I've gone a long way 'regaining the glory', so I will soon have enough money to buy the rally cars again.

Do you like track racing? I would like to invite you to the Nurburgring for a time trial duel. Do you like the 'Ring and would you be interested?

Me= A ring   mot_erf_cker..... (the smilies being crazy,
and sick ya know)

I'm really just about a fan of any course in the game... but the 'Ring, it's 1) my favorite course in the game & 2) the place where i go to tune most of my cars first. I'm definitely interested.

Cool! OK, I have 3 favourite cars for the ring: BMW's M3 or the M3 CSL and Subaru Impreza STi Prodrive '01. I have driven them mostly on stock form on the 'ring for reference times, so any of those cars would be fine for me.
Any other car will do too, I'm now starting to get my credits earned back, and already have some cars in my garage (I did lose my old savegame, it had over 200 cars and 60% completion ratio, not to mention a huge time database on the 'ring )
So, any of those cars or anything you suggest would be fine - a long as it's not a LMP or F1 car, 'cause I can't get those yet on my new savegame. For some reason, I like to do 'ring time attacks with stock cars - but this is not a must.

Well, you definitely don't have to worry about me picking an F1 or LMP car to run you -- I have enough trouble keeping them on the road there. I rarely have the desire to hop in anything fast enough to go under 6 minutes.

But those other 3 you listed are awesome cars for the 'Ring. All but the Subaru (I am not a fan of the handling characteristics of 4WD) get taken out of my garage for spins (!) on a regular basis. Well, they did until I had the same thing happen with my save -- I lost it all, but did so trying to move things about foolishly between multiple memory cards without having a backup to rely on. Luckily I had a cheat device to get me back on my feet with all the money or cars I could need. If you had access to an ARMAX device, I'd gladly send you the save I just started on -- only have a few used cars left to purchase.

Anyhow, if you are leaving the car choice up to me for the first go, I would opt for the CSL out of the three you listed, then we could move to another car later on.

P.S. I still need to go back and tackle that Cathedral time with the Lancia.

CSL it is then, OK?
OK with you if we do this with stock cars and S2 tyres?
And yes, let's by all means continue the Lancia challenge. I will post about that or the Swiss Alps if I improve my lap times.

About ARMAX, can you tell me more? I'm not 100% sure what that thing is.
A new game save file would be great. It wouldn't even be like cheating as I've got myself far enough in the game the first time.

Stock cars and S2 tires is fine with me. Definitely makes things more interesting.

ARMAX (or Action Replay MAX) is a cheat system with codes for a variety of games across most existing consoles and from there on it gets confusing for me to explain because of the way I went about purchasing and doing everything. Rather than confuse you, I'll just link you here where you can read more about it and what it does: http://www.codejunkies.com

That's kind of what I thought too, though.. if you were that far into the game anyway, you really aren't cheating so much as making up for your loss. And if you really wanted to while creating a new "cheatsave", you could just enable gold codes for the races you knew you had completed, then finish up from there. heh

I'll get started on this CSL challenge later this evening once I've finished completing my garage.

~80 cars to go. Had to take a break from that, though.. got in about 5 laps with the CSL in total.. one of them being a clean (but sloppy) 7:30.484. There's much more time left in it, but I'll see what you pull out of it until I run this one again.

Yeah, there's always some time to be gained, but it's so hard to get the best time - to cut each corner with the most conviction and still keep out of the grass...
But that's just the challenge of it, and that's good!

I got a decent time just now - 7:27.899

I believe that should take some beating :)
The car had done some hundreds of km already, so the 'oil change effect' wasn't there anymore. With a fresh car and oil change, I think it would be possible to shave like 2-3 seconds from that time.
Even so, I believe I can still improve my time, but it's not going to be easy from this point!

Update: 7:26.884

Now it takes me at least three or four tries each time to even get below 7:28 - it's getting very close to the limit what I am able to do on the 'ring and stock CSL...

Looking forward to your input, Z!

Impressive times! I'll have to put some time into it later tonight as I've been running Nurburgring a lot recently.
